Memories regained

Both are dreaming dreams of their past. This time we are getting glimpses of Tingyan before and just after accident. At the coming of age ceremony Sima Jiao regains his memories. The wretch of a wisp killed the concubine and frame Tingyan for it. She counters by waiting in prison by choice. Here the sacrifice of children and the famine with drought has built a big reserve of resentment flooding into Tingyan’s demon core. She has figure out the scheme in regards to her…she sacrifices herself literally as Sima Jiao did in demon realm to negate the demon core…or she risks demon core taking over and becoming Sima Jiao’s assassin. It’s worthy of Shi evil in the complexities of playing the long game. For now, there is a very small respite window where she vents her anger and frustration at his choice, and how he calmly said his gift was hers to use as she chose. His character is unique in that he doesn’t choose to safeguard himself or his followers under certain circumstances. He lets them be at risk along with himself and lets fate run its course with no regrets. His character will stay memorable with me because of that. He candidly takes life as it is and betters what he can with no apologies. Under the snow they have a brief quiet embrace where they know who they are and are not worried about where they are headed. They are taking a moment to just be.❤️

Sima Jiao the Emperor

Tingyan is not happy he has a harem😝 With the other side also wanting him dead, is the escaped magistrate a double agent? There are still questions about him. The wisp of old demon lord still wants to cause trouble. She is now aligning herself with the leader of Yan. The doc is a double agent. I am not sure if she is disciple of Yan leader or his lover. It is fun watching Tingyan and Jiao needle each other. 😂 This time she is saving him. But, by doing so in assassin raid, she has also revealed herself to old demon wisp. Jiao has his mother this time. Is she his idea or somebody else’s? Tingyan didn’t think enough soul shards left for another life. Both are trying to figure out nemesis plot and each other. Even his consorts mean him harm so she will have a tough time staying his bodyguard with the restrictions placed on her. Fortunately that also holds true for demon wisp. He doesn’t trust her, but can’t deny she shields him. I will be glad when they get to present day mortal time.

Meeting on mortal turf

This was a bittersweet episode. Sima Jiao is all to successful in purging her demon core. She keeps a wisp of him aside which means core is only suppressed. She is mistress and everybody fears her because she killed the great grandmaster and rules in his stead. It is funny how she demands 8 hr work days and not a minute longer😂 Her yawn when court session finally over. 😂🤣 She is an unhappy ruler because even tho surrounded by everything she likes and enjoys….it has no meaning without Sima Jiao there. I like how the ring was the last to circle around her reminding her of their love. I hope she is wearing it. Black snake gets cornered by both women and is especially in trouble when they sense Jiao’s aura in him. They now know where he is and Tingyan is far from impressed with how his character is gossiped as great womanizer. He wants to see her and sends an escort but she’s not enthused. Prior he sent a traitor to be executed with plans of rescuing him to find out where his master was. Tingyan interefered with that plan and now the wisp of old demon lord is awakened to wisp of spirit flame lord and in Tingyan. She has been resting 12 years and feels nice and spry to greet them. I hope these two have not outsmarted each other to their detriment. It is sweet he carries her picture.🥰 That look of pure surprise when they actually meet. Glad no having to wait for next episode. 😁

Wedding delayed

Feng Qi😝🤬 Had he not merged the cores her master could have removed the demon lord. Now there is only one way to save her from becoming a puppet. The wisp demon lord is heading to gate to release demon army. It is in mortal realm. These two are most willing to sacrifice themselves for each other. Their love is truly timeless. ❤️They tried to send Feng Qi off as a friend, but I had no feelings for him. He was their albatross and now is Jiao’s. The damage and ruin he caused did not gain him his fish and lost him his friends. In the next life, I hope they never meet. 😝 He has honor in him and deserves a redo, but not with Tingyan. She was never his . Mingling is at least gone now. He thinks he has won and in many ways he has. The only way to save Tingyan is for Jiao to die. Shi would love this irony. It is even better than the plot he made. I’m with snake not being happy about this choice but since they get another round in mortal realm, I can accept the cost for them to leave this one. Minus Feng Qi, this realm might have been a good spot for them. It had far more potential than Celestial realm. Hopefully the barrier stays down and the general populace of both races learn the lesson their leaders never managed—how to coexist.

Yan City

The last of the Fengshan line did a sweet thing to try to revive Sima Jiao, unfortunately removing her blood shield resulted in the wisp left of the old lord to take root there.😝 Tingyan is horrified at what happened when her fish powers emerged. They all faded away but still not sure that miscreant Shi is dead yet. I can only hope he has but I really do not want to see him in modern realm. I really want him gone …permanently. 🤬Tingyan went to soul manor and saw the shape of it, she figured out that lightning test was the best way to revive him. She literally took on the heavens to save him.🥰The lightning did indeed revive him. I am not sure if he is top strength, but he is definitely better. I see now why she and demon lord similar in disposition, he gave her human form. So it is not surprising they could merge. Since she is not of his bloodline, I am not sure how long this merge will last. She had Jiao arrange things for immortals and demons to live together. It is not harmonious yet and the elders on both sides really battling it. But the one thing both realms have in common is the poor and lower classes are damn tired of taking the brunt of the elders wars and bickering. This goes for both sides. Once the barrier melted, Hongluo will have no grudge against Sima Jiao even if all memories restored. Snake is making progress with his lady. In celestial realm, I wanted Ruling away from all of them she was too tunnel visioned to do anything but hurt them. This realm, she sees Shi for what he is and despises him . She has no grudge against Jiao and actually encourages the match. She plays hard to get with black snake, but at least only hurting his pride rather than him personally. This realm overall has treated them better even with the harshness of last episode. Tingyan has proposed…..wonder what grandmaster will say?😂🥰❤️

Grain rain vale

These two finally get a private moment and Feng Qi is jealous. He goes to the Preceptor and agrees to help with their plan. They kinda left out the whole ‘processed’ part intended for Tingyan.😝 I am not sure what they added to her ankle or if it is her anklet from Jiao acting up, but it is adding to his troubles healing. He refuses to tell her and lets her eat drink and be merry in Grain Rain Vale. The refreshing part of this place is that the leaders truly just want her company and to see how she is doing. There are no hidden agendas. They just want her to have a good visit. Feng Qi sees them as a couple there. It would be more believable if she would have even noticed any of his overtures to the children and villagers. She is not particularly wrapped up in Jiao either. But she is comfortable in his company and just trusts that. Ine surprise is the Preceptor changing his fate from demon lord death. He didn’t grant life, but an opportunity to be spared if fate allowed and his fish showed up. She saw him as a dying child and offered aid. I don’t think she ever once considered him anything other than a friend/brother. Ruling is trying to tell him he should stay her friend and that it was obvious who she was most interested in. He refuses to give up hope and will be unnecessary trouble for them all.😝 This is second drama he does this. Hope he gets different roles in future or I may start getting annoyed just seeing his face in the drama.😝😂I like how they both wear the rings and don’t think of hiding them or taking them off. They are invited and received as a couple. She is starting to astral travel again so Jiao keeps boundaries up so she will be safe. This time she is not angry or feeling confined. This episode starts and ends with a pool scene. I hope she recognizes he needs som cool relief from her soon. He really isn’t doing so well. The thing that shines through is their commitment to each other regardless of where , name or habits. I am pretty positive he will always recognize her. She has more powers against her than she can beat right now, so I still have doubts with her tho it will not be of her doing. Shi has already scrambled her brains once and with demon assistance, I don’t see him not capable of doing it again. That is sad to admit, but there is still a big battle stirring up and right now, Jiao is pushing himself too hard with minimal assistance. His well meaning snake isn’t speaking up to the right people. They are going to have to trick her in removing her anklet and Feng Qi is going to let himself be the key to that venture. He has reason to idolize her, but he really has no clue where he really is in the scheme of things.

Progress

Both sides are gaining ground. The two vipers comparing notes. 😝 Even the demon preceptor was surprised at how forward Shi was in cutting the fake formalities and get to business chat. I hadn’t paid attention that the aunt was really his sister. His son was easily duped and his niece who had more spine was as evil as her uncle and prepped to become worse. It would do all worlds a favor for this clan to never reincarnate or procreate. They need to be exterminated. Feng Qi is being duped like the son and his obsession keeps him blind to reality. Sima Jiao woke that part up. I am glad he had the gumption to tell off the old ghost. Didn’t expect that really. Tingyan accepted the pills and cultivated to a level giving her soul manor access. She sees what happened to Shi’s son and how he cursed her. She also sees how she was forced to kill him. This is something Jiao should never have done. He sees that now and in this respect, he and Shi are exactly alike. They recognize the necessity of the action, but do not care of about any trauma or impact their actions cause. The only difference between them is Jiao has regret. He had many other options to choose from. Here he was like Feng Qi thinking it would be her preference. He follows her to a section she has just discovered. She finds her old notes and a pair of rings. Funny how he showed up right then. He played it cool and just asked if rings were ok?😝😂 She agrees for them to share but reminds him it’s couple not marriage rings. He is just happy boyfriend title is for him.🥰 Houlong is now grown. She is acting more like Ruling now and I find I like her less. She is back to snubbing the snake. I want her to remember the pain she caused those she labeled friends. I don’t want her to repeat those actions. Ruling was right to have Tingyan clean up. She has not bathed or changed outfits since rescued. I like how he warms the water to her perfect temperature. I hope these two will get a true couple moment before chaos hits.

Demon realm

Shi is a wretch😝🤬 He has Tingyan living as his daughter thinking she must avenge her brother and kill Sima Jiao. 😝 She and Ruling are again friends with scrambled memories and different names. Jiao continues to hunt for her and he and Nianju taking over realm a city at a time for search. Luckily demon lord is a male version of Tingyan. He just wants to live well and laze about without dealing with the demon populace at all. His top man wants to process Tingyan as a weapon piece and somewhere the spirit of great demon is still waiting for host body. Tingyan carved an emoji on table so Jiao knows she is alive, but Shi has her concealed. He is also ramping up her chill powers under the guise of ‘kindness’. 😝 At least Tingyan knows he is not her real father, but she feels a debt because he rescued her and became crippled. There is no telling how much fact from fiction with him. He is in it for long game so would have no trouble feigning anything. I am enjoying this version of Tingyan more. She is a fighter here using her demon skills. She does not have the issue of killing like she did in celestial realm. However, she doesn’t just indiscriminately kill either. Like her real self, she has no desire to kill Sima Jiao just because ‘daddy says so’.😝 She is much more like BaoBao here and totally kicking butt. Jiao was disappointed the one he saved wasn’t Tingyan, but it was one of the last Fengshan babies that had birthmark removed. She is now all grown up and he has shielded her so her bloodline will not be recognized. He and black snake have taken over another city that has welcomed them with open arms. Seems it’s the one where Ruling and Tingyan live. Waiting to see how seeing each other goes.

Yuan Bao the matchmaker with firefly ambiance

I am watching on Viki and series in 8 episodes rather than 18. There will be spoilers if watching the 18 episode version. Shi Qi puts off louse prince reminding him of the dangers if caught. The general notices but chooses to say nothing. The louse prince is acting like just another impromptu love making location to notch on his belt😝 Shen Qin can have him. These two deserve each other. Too bad he is too acquainted with her face.😝 This episode we meet Yuan Bao, a precocious young lady who was orphaned young and adopted by the general. She examines Shi Qi quite closely and laments she doesn’t have the features her father would find appealing. 🤣 She is ditching school and wants the new wife to help her out. Shi Qi is surprised, but she sides with the little miss and is now labeled mom. That evening new mom and little miss are camping out in the yard with firefly lantern. Shi Qi is just saying they need to let the fireflies loose when the General shows up asking about the tent. He is surprised at the scene that greets him and is going to leave when Yuan Bao pulls him in demanding a story. She is quite the instigator as she crosses their arms over her and touching each other. 🤣🥰 The little one falls asleep with the story of fireflies and surprisingly so does Shi Qi. It is a sweet moment with the family shoes outside the tent.🥰 There is another meeting with the face swapper. She is demanding an item to be found that was held by the crown prince. I guess the red on her arm is a magical pregnancy test and she knows they have not consummated their marriage yet. She puts a spring poison in their wine. I do not know if it harms as well as excites but I think is just super potent aphrodisiac. I am glad that the prince seemed to have a line he wouldn’t cross about being young girls as courtesans. However, he was interested in the 17 yr old Shin Qin and the wine made him extra amorous. However, a friend of Shi Qi’s recognized her face going in with the prince. The magistrate spilled the love concoction for general so their evening was different. Her shoulder scar and words have convinced him she is the one he has dreamed about for three years. The face doesn’t match but the mole and scar do. She has not explained her situation, but for this night, they are throwing caution to the winds and consummating their marriage in a loving way🥰❤️ Yuan Bao will be very happy. 😂This story continues to be well told with no extra filler. We are given what we need to see, the machinations at work and how they fit with no filler. The music is also nice. Kudos to the cast and production team .

Surprise! This is him!

I am watching on Viki and the episodes are set up differently. There are only 8 in total with 20+ mins on most and a few with 30+ mins. So these will have spoilers if watching the 18 episode version. The story begins with a painter (Shi Qi) painting a group of courtesans. She is looking for her sister who has a peach blossom on her shoulder. A wealthy woman (Shen Qin)arrives and wants a painting done. She promises to give location of sister once painting is finished. It’s an odd situation because the meeting is set up at night and while the materials are there, something feels off. She sees Shen Qin being intimate with a prince and thinks she is mistaken to be there. She is told if she leaves there will be no help finding her sister, so she reluctantly stays and follows the directions she is given…..to paint what she sees. The prince wants his lover to marry a general so he can have sway with the military. He has plans for getting her back eventually, but even saying she is pregnant has no sway with this louse of a prince. When the painter is getting ready to leave she feels she has been swindled but accepts her loss. She finds Shen Chin in a lavish pool asking her if she loves anyone and wants to be by their side. Shi Qi doesn’t respond but someone does come to mind for her. When Shen Qin disappears in the pool, she thinks she is harming herself so comes close to the side, where she is forced into the pool. She is carried to a bed where a strange cloaked magical type person with bandages except for her cat eye is all that is seen. When she wakes, she finds she has the face of the rich lady, and in the general’s mansion getting ready to be married. She is in completely shock and is rambling about to find more mirrors. In her search she does find one, but it reveals an interrogation room where the general is killing someone. She faints from the blood and shock. She keeps trying to convince anyone she is not the person with this face, but who will believe her? Someone claiming to be her brother refuses to talk with her and actually sends a maid assassin to kill her. The maid is not cut out for this and is interrupted by the general who rescues Shi Qi and swaps out what is probably poisoned wine. Here is where Shi Qi sees him for the first time and it’s the general that rescued her. He is her savior and the one she always wondered about. When she sees he is to be her husband, she still tries to tell him she is not Shen Qin, but he quiets her and has her make the wedding toast. I did not see him drink but he then has a different look and locks her in the room. Assassins are planted and making their way into the mansion when the episode ends. This was an interesting introduction to the story. It is clear there is a backstory we have no clue about yet and somebody wants the general and Shen Qin dead. How does Shen Qin know about her sister? An interesting fate for the general. He gets the one who will really like him. I am enjoying everything about this episode including the music. It is fast paced and tells a good story.

Thunder bolt tribulation

Finally our leads can have a bit of romance.🥰 unfortunately the hidden son is causing trouble because of his hatred for Shi clan. This has revealed the true spy in 8 sect. Shi is going to use him to trap Sima Jiao, so leaving things in place. Ruling and sister are now speaking. I am glad for them to get sister time. I guess she had to lose her friends to give her sis priority.😝She has told her sister of her alliance with Shi clan to kill Sima Jiao. Shi’s spy seems satisfied with this tho did tell of little sister’s plan to dig up dirt on Shi clan. It is very sweet how Sima Jiao makes the defense artifact to Tingyan’s taste. He has gone to great effort to protect her. Nianju has returned and decided Sima Jiao will be his one and only master. He is still sad about Ruling but recognizes the devil you know is better than the one you don’t. Sima Jiao thought he had protected Tingyan sufficiently for the trial, but discovered that even his aura would get 81 strikes instead of 36. He finds himself taking the trial along with her. He is surprised when she joins him to seal them away from the bolts. He chastises her some for this but she is not going to be deterred helping to protect him.🥰These two really do have the heavens themselves trying to kill them off just for existing. Shi knows that Sima Jiao is trying to find their flame flower. It is going to be a harder battle of wits because he now can prepare. A lotus flower has bloomed in Sima Jiao’s soul plain and the pair produced double flame flowers with their battle against the bolts. I am curious how her extreme cold will merge with extreme heat. Will they cancel each other out, or become something new?

His healer the demon

Shi is outraged his work has been destroyed. There is hint that another flame has been created. I am still unsure if it was destroyed or has hidden itself. Sima Jiao was very close to success in killing himself along with the bloodthirsty elders. Tingyan is resigned to die with him but really wants to live. He adjusts his efforts at last second to fly off. While he is gone, Shi assesses the damage. His son wants to know where Anxue is and Shi lies that Sima Jiao killed her. He wants romance torn from his son to complete his diabolical plan and his son almost fell for it. He pieces together things his dad told him and decides to respond this way….that he would avenge Anxue. Shi never considered that his son would consider love THE most important thing. He has created his own secondary nemesis but doesn’t realize it yet. Tingyan finds them transported to a beautiful location with a fisherman waiting for them. Sima Jiao knows who he is and asks if he is to be killed or saved….the reply was either one. The fisherman is an immortal that put a bead on Sima Jiao to give him mercy. If he found the one that could teach him this, he could be saved. The proof would be sg]he could break the cord and feed him the bead. She is stunned when she breaks the cord. The immortal is somehow tied to Fengshan line. When she proves she can heal him, the immortal declares his tie completed and severed. He disappears and little flame takes over. Sima Jiao’s body is healing nicely, but his soul is a mess and still fading. Tingyan is challenged to enter his spirit realm and heal him. She manages to get inside where it is a fiery mess and his life experiences floating by. She resonates with his pain and hugs him, refusing to let go. Her fish surrounds his being and stops the flames. Seems three joinings will cure him. After second time his spirit world is a spring garden, all blooming and beautiful. For the third time he is much more aware….and episode ends. There is a brief aside where Nianju wakes up and Ruling lies to him. She convinces him to stay hidden while she goes to look for them. I cannot decide if I am going to like her or resent her tie to black snake. The jury is still out.😝

Prison visits

Everybody pleads for He Yan before the emperor. He restores honor to Xiao family, gives He Yan her general status and Chu a significant promotion. The squad visits He Yan and to sign up under her command. The reading of the edict by magistrate Yang was especially poignant. The Xiao family honor is restored and Yang apologized sincerely and expedited receipt and reading of edict. It was late received, but he acknowledged how he was used, recognized the harm he caused, and repented his prior actions sincerely. Sometimes that is all one can do. Xiao Jue recognized the effort and sincerity of the magistrate and accepted the apology. The edict was hung in the ancestral hall and the sons bowed and shared pride for their father and legacy. Xiao Jue then introduces his soulmate to them who promises to take care of their son. Yan He says they owe him tonic for their deception and Cheng promises to comply with the order. Ms Song corrects him that she will handle it. 😂 He Yan visits her brother in prison. He still feels robbed of his identity and that her honors were rightly his. She reminded him that she started all over as He Yan and reached same status a second time. He could have accomplished that as well had any real effort been made. He wants them to kill him but they aren’t taking the bait. He shrieks incessantly that he is the general. I am not sure he has convinced himself. As they are leaving the prison, they run into Chu and politely inquire why they are there. Chu notes the handholding and his mouth twitches. He is not letting He Yan go and it’s a damn shame. His guard is lovely and capable and already loves him. She is worth a hundred of the spoiled brat Xu girl. He visits the chancellor and they finally agree to disagree. The chancellor only asks for his daughter to be treated well. Here Chu dropped an unexpected truth. He had no affection for his daughter but would see she is well taken care of. Here the father slams his head into the jail bars trying to choke Chu. His shock killed him. To his credit, Chu pleaded for the daughter with the emperor and rescued her from stupidly lipping off to the guards. She has no idea how low her status now is, or how her meanness and malicious behavior will backfire. She finally understands the deal with Chu and storms out. In courtyard Chu tries to get He Yan to take him to dinner. Xiao Jue counters that they will treat him to a sumptuous feast. Xiao Jue jokes that he will be happy to retire if life is now peaceful. He Yan counters that she wants to be a general and how did he feel about being supported by her.😂

Secrets revealed

The banquet was quite the event. He Yan started speaking up after Wutuo representative questioned their loyalty. Everything continued to escalate after that. Official charges were brought against He RuFei, and when chancellor Xu tried to overturn things charges were leveled at him. He Yan’s mother came with the needed evidence to prove He RuFei’s collusion. He Yan told the court chancellor was trying to hide his involvement. There was a moving scene with her mom speaking up for her. She did her best to get a horrid son to repent and when tossed aside told her daughter to live. Her blood was like war paint on He Yan’s face. I am not sure if the He’s poisoned her or if that was how she opted to end things after proving her daughter’s innocence and that she was the original and only true General in the family. The truths started water falling after Chu spoke up and had the chancellor’s own hand written letter to Wutuo promising market site. The chancellor then tries his ace. A coup with He RuFei calling upon the guards to secure the villains. Here there was an interesting power shift. The 9th battalion was there and they secured the true villains. He Yan reminded her “brother” that she had fought side by side with most of these men, so how did he think they would honor his command? As they are escorted out to be tried and executed I can’t help comparing the actor of He RuFei with the actor David Tennant and his spitting vengeful character on Harry Potter. It is very similar.😂 As they are escorted out the emperor reminds He Yan that as a member of He household, she has deceived the emperor…and the episode ends….

Return victorious

He Yan got a twofer in knocking them out. Daddy fainted.😂 Here I have no clue why she didn’t gag big mouthed bro to get max time. She was touched by her mother’s remembrance of her and gains her puzzle box. Unfortunately it did not have the letters inside. He RuFei gloats with chancellor that he still has them, protected by his life. Xu is thinking no problem, his life for the letters when time is right.😝 The Sun son gets the ledger, but here again Chu hurts as much as helps because he destroyed the ledgers. Here I am not sure if lying, but don’t think so. He’s not that good at it under viper’s stare. And, if this is the copy, his master would recognize handwriting. So it was in his best interest to seem accommodating to both sides while actually to neither. At court chancellor knows exactly how to shut Xiao Jue up and is successful. Building a market in Mingshui is unacceptable. He knows Xiao Jue won’t keep quiet about it and he is now under house arrest. Li has returned and the spy in tea shop has been arrested. This news gave Xu pause. There is finally a chink showing in that political armor. His daughter is used as the witness of Chu’s innocence in finding out about it. Chu has learned sly lessons well from his master. What I did not anticipate is that Xu is so arrogant he thinks emperor is either to be his puppet or replaceable. Here I am hoping he is as delusional as He RuFei. I don’t even want to imagine Wei under these two.😝He Yan’s mother comes to see her. She is introduced as a member of He house but not as her mother. I am not sure if she is trying to keep her mother safe, or remembering the mother that denied her at school and temple. We really don’t know what the mother’s circumstances were to have an opinion or cast judgment. He Yan dons her uniform for banquet. She is determined to reclaim everything she has lost. Her friends are gathered outside her door to support her. Xiao Jue has two words for her…..return victorious.
