KJ2025 This episode starts with GY being surprised by LY. she has him celebrate with her at a fancy meal because the character he helped inspire was well received. Everybody is wanting to bargain for the wire mesh and TQ has to decide if he wants to make a deal with the husband who runs the company or the wife that developed the product. He meets with SCC disguised as FJ and there is a cute case of unraveling the sweater thread. She tries to persuade him to not talk to the police about what happened and showed him her file that proved the jerk husband had a habit of hitting. TQ apologizes and says he is going to tell the truth. This turns out to be a great twist on the husband who thinks he has things wrapped up in his favor bribing TQ with the patent. TQ admits the first thing he saw was FJ hitting her husband, and while the jerk is smiling TQ also includes a verbatim account of the previous dialogue between them which gives a very clear picture of who was in the wrong. This made me smile because it was verbatim. And he looks the jerk in the eye and said “I promised I would tell the truth” 🤣 There is another sweet scene where GY turns up at LY’s place with boxes of comics a manufacturer wants signed for his daughter. She reveals something of herself when she is touched by the love the father has for his daughter and agrees to sign every one of them. As a thank you to TQ for helping her case SQL sets up a meeting with FJ at the lab. SCC reluctantly agrees to be FJ but is in for a shock when TQ requests her to go along. With teamwork the ladies survive.😂 Mean girl strikes again on work projects because she thinks she outmaneuvered WY by choosing number 5 instead of 3. I’m thinking she needs another meeting with Sun Wukong🤣 FJ gives TQ a gift. Everybody is waiting to see who wins the right to sell the patent.

The game is afoot and the banquet has started. The impeachment petition is making the rounds when eunuch Cao shows up. He burns it and the fighting commences. He has the officials trapped so they can’t leave grounds and brings in Zhifu who is in pretty bad shape. Then it is Deja vu with Marquis family lined up for slaughter. What is different about this scene is he doesn’t have the same loving desperation the astronomer had for his. Even the eunuch is surprised by it. The ladies are having their own battles in the treasury. The princess is in the secret room when she is shot by an arrow from crossbow. Zang Hai lets her know it is poisoned and tells her it was part of his plan. He is visibly shaken when he sees AnTu’s face under mask. He knows she dealt with Cao because he heard her. But something isn’t adding up. He reveals his identity and shows her the remains of his parents. He sets fire to the room after bowing to them. He slips AnTu the antidote and takes her home. He leaves her outside the gate but makes sure a servant is called and sees her. She is definitely part of the game but not an enemy. The deal she struck most likely had to do with her mother and definitely some promise for Dongxia if it wasn’t for her family. She is bound to Dongxia and would do anything to help and protect them. The Marquis and eunuch are going at it but the psycho Lu is always between. The eunuch has already injured himself to make it look like Marquis tried to murder him. His sly face so reminds me of Voldemort when most snakelike. It is not just the look but the vibe he gives. A cobra always ready to strike. He is self serving in protecting himself but not afraid to get his hands dirty. His guards are like a cult he has brainwashed to be his personal bodyguards and assassins. I did like that the general still left in Marquis got several good shots in and caused psycho some damage. Second son shows up and helps save the family but is stabbed too close to heart for my liking. Fortunately he will survive and while close , missed organs so he will heal just fine. He got a visit from dad and was given a father’s blessing and endorsement. He will continue family legacy. Zhifu has developed a crazed fever because of injuries. Even if he recovers he is not expected to be mentally sound. The mom has plans for the younger son I am sure, but she should keep in mind he saved their sorry asses even after she killed his mom. I hope she checks herself but it’s not likely. At core she is evil and vengeful. Her usefulness has worn out so she can be cast aside by Marquis. He connected the dots together and figured out that Zang Hai was pulling the strings. Zang Hai did have a valid rebuttal so it remains to be seen where the Marquis’ loyalties will lie after this bday. He proved himself wise in moving the fish key. It’s like he knew something was up. AnTu is going to join Marquis in being in a bad place with Cao. But that viper always makes sure he can build a scenario against everyone he encounters. And he has the ear of the emperor. Funny how we never see him. At some point his mouthpiece is going to be out of the way and emperor might have to actually speak for himself. Now that Dongxia Princess and Zhinu are acquainted it remains to be seen how these two can outwit and survive the officials. Zang Hai has convinced Marquis his best move with emperor is to take responsibility and look remorseful. Now to see how emperor decides between Cao and Marquis. And who really knows where Gui seal is?

Sima Jiao has been locked up for 500 years. He is the last of his clan and maybe even his kind and everybody wants something from him. They have him locked up for his blood and abilities and he has had enough. He plans on literally blowing up the mountain that confines him but needs one more thing for his plan to work. Now enter Liao Tingyan from the future. She has knowledge of games and is on the phone in a taxi when there is an accident and she finds herself in a ‘gameworld’ she is familiar with. She takes it in stride pretty well and sees it as a much needed work break. Since she doesn’t know how to escape, she goes with the flow wanting only to stay low key and have good food and good rest. She is taken to a mentor that informs her she is a filler for a group of women chosen to take care of the grandmaster. She is less than enthused but assured she won’t be chosen. She gets a taste of the mean girls all vying for top position to serve the grandmaster. She is more than happy to let them have the glory and tries to sneak away. She is literally escorted up the stairs til she resigns herself and goes peacefully. Once there she is told to sit and wait for a spiritual crown. Turns out, she has one. She now goes where huge cobras guard the way. She wants no part of it and looks for a way out. Sima Jiao sees her and is intrigued by her boldness. He cuts off any path of escape and she knows from horror movie watching the single person always ends up dead so she throws herself into the middle of the crowd hoping not to be seen. As the women are interviewed, one gets tossed across the courtyard and another killed. Turns out this one was an imposter and he knew. Liao Tingyan is kneeling and notices his well manicured feet.😂 She finds him pretty and surprised he is so mean. When he comes to her the fire emblem on his head is activated. She is from demonic clan and that was unexpected. He throws everybody out and they are all glad to go. Tingyan sees two distinct groups form but knows she has nothing in common with either one. Her leg hurts and unexpectedly she gets help from Ruling. They part ways and Tingyan goes off by herself. At the realm where she appeared from modern world, she was made an imposter assassin. She has no clue this is her role, but they are counting on her to set them free from the barrier that confines them. I enjoyed this first episode. I liked fl as BaoBao and wanted to see her in something new. She is hilarious and I find her as engaging here as I did there.

Prince Cheng ‘s pride was hurt but unfortunately nothing else. The Feng girl used similar tricks to be noticed with him and secure her place. What neither of them expected was a foolish Qin girl to add to the mix. Xiang is going to get all the attention she thought she wanted and with these two vipers in place with her in between, she will get everything she deserves and then some. Prince Chi charmed both Gma’s and all were prepared for happy festivities with all three princes’ marriages set to take place. The Emperor is happy Prince Chi seems to have fallen in line but remains agitated with Prince Rui not turning over the talisman. Prince Rui and son had a major row over it and the father would not listen to reason tho he was right in how enemies would take advantage of change in leadership. This cost him his life and the Emperor is very like the over acting artist. His laments are laughably fake. The dowager has collapsed and wants her son returned to her. Prince Chi collapses there but returns his father to the palace and gives the emperor the tiger tally with no other words said. The emperor had no tears for his sibling but was all about clutching the tally. He now feels in control. As evil as Cheng is, this seems more of the Emperor’s doing than his. We will see what comes out in the wash as things unfold. I did enjoy the look on Cheng’s face when the bride’s name was given. They deserve each other. The emperor used this to counter the brother’s death as a hunting accident. He covered up the incidents that led to the death in one quick verdict. Wan has used a very specific technique to prepare the bones from Jin’s mansion and Minister Li noted whose technique it was but didn’t say anything further when she responded with learning from books. He does not want this case brought to the emperor because the deceased is the bodyguard of Prince Jin. This now is a cause to reopen the case and he is most reluctant to have it go there. He does have reasons for hiding this. It is not clear if it is to hide things for the emperor that he keeps stalling or covering up. There is plenty of collusion going on amongst the royals it is just unclear what side is the truth. And once the truth starts shedding light on things, where will the chips fall?

Wan saying how she will lay low with the Supreme Court minister😝 She has already advertised her endeavors, like he is gonna conveniently forget? 🙄 The wood carver is definitely part of it. Whether he does the actual killing or transports bodies to different location he is accomplice at minimum. That dark flower sure had the artist’s flare, but neither had white mask. The burn case is a stretch when an accident and repentant culprit. Wan needs Bai. As much as I really like Prince and Princess guard wannabes…they have talent, but they are not reliable. The party hardy duo have lost their charm for me. It is becoming a daily event rather than rare occasion. He is pulling her down rather than her making him a better man. They have promised to change their ways but Wan’s reckless behavior needs a firmer hand than these two and Prince Chi can’t be everywhere. He has a weak ass crown Prince to cover up for.😝It was a very sweet gesture of him buying her family home and getting her into the Qin adjoining property. It is a good place to use as a base of operations for their investigations. It can easily home military personnel and keep people under house arrest when necessary, while still having private quarters available. As usual, Prince Chi had this well thought out for her comfort and protection. The coroner is learning what his real job is. He is becoming a better public servant and feeling pride and responsibility with his job. Prince Chi will have to have evidence in hand when he figures out Shuoxi mole. It’s a shame that priorities are askew so that father and son can’t team together to find the culprits undermining the army. Here all roads lead to consort and son.😝 They have been so busy stirring up the pit of misunderstandings between father and son that they are pretty convinced things can only go their way. I have mixed feelings with this episode. I am not happy with how writer is trying to bring balance to Wan’s character. I know that the brothel thing is to get Prince Yan Li in line as a target, but Ning’s choice to drink at every opportunity because she has nothing better to do isn’t working for me either. She could be training with the female soldiers and learning her job or networking with the royals to get the latest gossip. If this is the extent of her efforts she should have stayed home where the dowager could have kept an eye on her. I understand why Wan wanted the princess to know who she really is, but with her alcohol habit getting started, it wasn’t the wisest timing for her to be in the loop. She even said as much. This episode was half headache half decent. The writer knows the objective, but the characters are kinda fumbling around to get there except for Prince Chi and Bai.

The two vying prince’s are a direct product of mama’s training and posturing. Can’t blame the Empress for wanting her son smarter. I don’t get why she wants to encourage a wife and consort when she knows from personal experience how that plays out. 😝 The consort is all pleased at her son’s display of superiority in complete agreement. Hopefully there will be no wife for him. Their kind really doesn’t need to procreate.😝I am glad Xiang got caught being lippy. She refuses to learn from her mistakes. I understand why the family wants to marry her off soon and I pity the family stuck with her. Yu puts on a good act but at heart I think she is on par with the Xiang girl in her actual feelings. Her mother’s constant harping on her isn’t helping matters. While it will give her a coveted title, she is too smart to truly be happy with that cowardly indecisive crown prince. However, she may prefer beta’s so she can rule the house. They already know which prince Wan prefers. However, so did the visiting princess. After seeing one prince lose out, she stakes her claim on Prince Chi first thing. It has shocked the men in the room. 😂 She is probably quite talented so hoping our Princess Ning can give her competition. I am sure Wan will wish she could shoot arrows in a particular direction.😂 The dowager continues to improve so that’s a good thing. The emperor has made Wan her personal physician. This is a double edged sword, but will help give her access to royal files pertaining to her family. The gossiping aunt about prince Rui. 😝At least Wan sees it for the scheming it is and forewarned. She has managed to get tokens from two members of royal family in the same day. This too is a double edged sword as all the ladies are wanting to trip her up and watch her fall. This is truly treacherous territory for both of them. Prince Yan Li’s attendance was noted. The emperor gave him a stunned long side eye. Princess Ning was quite pleased tho. I do have one question, why does the emperor choose head piece that has bead shade over eyes? Is this for shade from sun? It would drive me crazy trying to see through beads when conducting business or enjoying festivities. The prince with the fox made a big show of putting jewelry on the princess. The ruby piece was lovely, but furry cuteness can never be underestimated. We may get whiplash turning head back and forth watching the royals take swings at each other. 🧐🫣😂

In retrospect this is not surprising. Both of these two were the best DIYers. Duo and BingWen tended to handle things personally and did not waste funds having people work for them. Duo refused carriage rides and BingWen handled his own repairs. BingWen also argued the calmest in court and tried to keep Cao and Marquis at bay through the turmoil. He helped Zang Hai on several occasions as well and tried very hard to get the Emperor to go lighter rather than heavier in punishing. I think the only exception was his demand of immediate harsh punishment of the ‘bandits’ that burned down Duo’s home. Zang Hai thought to cover evidence but maybe this was the only retribution BingWen could bring for his friend’s death. These two must have been very close for Duo to trust him with his family. And since he handled repairs, Duo may have had conversations about his son and tunnels sneaking in and out of the kitchen. We will probably not be given this background story, but it is quite likely these two were the upright thorns that tried to keep the corruption at bay. I don’t know why he made a point to help steer the son. I don’t know if he saw Zhinu as hope for the future or best suited to derail the past and present. This part we might get an answer to as things unravel.

Zang Hai figured out that the original builders of the tomb did not waterproof it correctly. The Marquis’ eldest son embezzled the building funds for another project or for himself. The henchmen all knew that this would uncover their fraud and plotted to bury him within the tomb if he successfully fixed or execute him for failing. They planned his death either way. It was a touching scene with his uncle. Now he knows he sounds like his dad and he has retained their wisdom. His uncle was kicked out of imperial service and given tomb duty. He would not say why but I am sure the colleague that helped get Zang Hai’s family killed was responsible. The mentor holding still with a knife to his eye while he played blind was impressive. He did a nice slight of hand with the fortune sticks. I am sure his prediction will involve Zang Hai and waiting to see how the tables are turned on these wicked men. It was even more disgusting that the Marquis agreed to their heinous plot to cover for his son. They knew that he would but was seeing if there was any shred of decency in him. Nope. No wonder his sons are like they are.😝Zang Hai knew he was going to get entombed, but I don’t think he expected all those other men to be with him. I would like to think that they will honor whatever promises they made to these men, but I don’t think there is any chance in hell their families will receive restitution for their sacrifice. Tonight they drink and tomorrow they see the inside of the tomb….permanently. I am hoping that whatever Zang Hai attempts in getting to the river that he gets some or all of the others out with him. I also hope they show a follow up of the burned girl. I hope she lives and can manage to speak. These miscreants keep racking up sins so I hope his revenge takes into account every single person and fraud they have done. I am glad his mentor is assisting. I was wondering at his motives initially, but he has gone to some significant lengths to assist. I am curious what Zang Hai has spotted in the tomb to think there is possible escape.

Should have known it was the second son stealing from treasury. I wish he would have had more time to check out secret room. It’s also a shame that the son had more spunk and character as a child than when grown. He is on the fast track to useless. 😝Zang Hai was genius with his inventory ledger and knew just how to stroke the Marquis’ ego. It got him attention, but now the three henchmen want to either integrate him into their slimey ways or kill him. He had his chance at the ‘bday’ party for Yang. I am sure he would have figured out a different response to the poor singer had he known what Yang would do. There are special places in hell for the Marquis and his three. Whoever the gal manager is was surprised that Zang Hai would actually care for the welfare of the girl. It proves again that even on revenge path there are depths he won’t go. That speaks well for him, but also as pointed out by his mentor, it shows the no bottom line for this group. Even the son has a play stupid or die outlook for dealing with it. He tried to gain audience with the Marquis through the son but that also met with dead end. He does now know there are secret locations in the hall where only authorized guests can go. His golden time to get closer to Marquis is getting significantly smaller so he needs to find a way to circumvent the gang of three. Noted that Xiao Zhan is gifted with excellent micro expressions. This drama is intense but I am all in to see how he makes these four pay. The bodies keep stacking up and I’m sure he is keeping track of them.

Zang Hai gets introduced to swindling city ways. He still needs training because he shared his observations with girl hustler and finds himself turned into Mr 8. 😝 He did get the scoop on the Emperor by her explaining the play to him. I enjoyed the politicians being shown as jumpy toads.😂 Here is where I wonder if his mentor set him up for further training because he is right there to rescue him and it’s a bit too convenient. Our revenge seeker shows he still has kindness because he rescues the little boy as well as getting into the party of Feng shui experts. His nonchalant attitude and nap taking on the way is funny. But he is right that to get worked up isn’t going to keep mind clear. When they get to the tomb area the group is split up and he finds himself on the side that has a long hallway. Everybody knows this is creepy but nobody knows what to do. One guy suggests to stay by the wall and finds himself pinned with a spear. Everybody starts freaking out and Zang Hai tells them to stay put and shut up so they can live. He has figured out the stars and pattern from their lores and manages to traverse the hall. He and two others reach the end. He has been spot on but his last suggestion took out the other two leaving him the only one past the traps. It does not make sense to him and he is trying to figure out what was wrong. As Zang Hai is reciting Star poem so is Marquis on archery field. He is annoyed that he can’t find one capable to get the Emperor out of his troubles. He is not a patient man as a chatty servant found himself getting his tongue removed. We also see the Marquis’ son and his father warning him to be careful. There are machinations everywhere and nobody can be trusted.

It starts with showing workers in a mine. Dongxia has been conquered and Great Yong has built Fengshan Altar to declare victory across the land. Under ground the man in charge said they had dug far enough and the men could stop. He was called by a report that something was wrong in the mine. He investigated to find that all the men were knocked out by something. He saw a tunnel leading further and went to investigate. The structure looked like it was upside down and had what appeared to be a jade carving inside. He and another were attacked by the undead. He was reaching for the carving when it cut to a different scene. A young boy is waiting for his father to get home with the royal procession. He found the princess instead and got whipped for his nosiness. He received a sword shaped welt across his back. There was another boy in the procession that was dumped out of carriage in an accident. The boy and two friends hid the boy and beat him trying to get information. When the two older boys left the one seeking his father shared some treats his mother made. The sister discovered the captured boy and told mom. All the boys were then punished. Her son wasn’t happy because all the tunnels he had built to impress his father had to be sealed. There was gossip that all the men in the mine perished when the alter collapsed. The boy denied this because he knew how good a builder his father was. Later that night his father showed up and was trying to get all of family out of the city. He would not explain why and was stopped by guards who started killing people. The leader was accusing the dad of taking something that didn’t belong to him. The mom had son and daughter hide. The boy took his sister to the barn and hid her while he returned to his tunnels getting rid of the seals he had just put in. The soldiers ended up killing them all but the boy. His close friend pretended to be him so the attackers thought they had killed both his children. He watched as his family was slaughtered. His father at the end said they would never find what they were looking for. With his last breath he told his son to live. They staged a robbery and then set everything on fire. The leader finds something in the dad’s pocket and keeps it. The boy had passed out from the smoke but was found by someone who knew to look for him. The mystery man takes the child and exits. A very eventful first episode.

Thanks to Chen JinZhao’s brother (Rong) is finally located. There is a happy reunion with their mother tho both are concerned about her health. Here Ye Xian is actually helpful and gets an exceptional physician there to examine her. He agrees that the script from prior doctor was correct and much more progress should have been made. When the medicine pouches were inspected, it was discovered that rhubarb had been added tho not an ingredient in the script. JinZhao’s aide discovered the culprits and she teamed up with Ye Xian’s aide to capture them. After interrogation, Ye Xian had confessions in hand and was happily on his way to inform JinZhao. His father interrupts and Ye Xian is now basically under house arrest until further notice. He sends his aide to the Gu home while his father makes further plans with Xiao about trouble making Prince. Nanny Zhou is finally called to task for her crimes. After the lashes she will be sent to another estate til she passes. JinZhao is not happy because she blames the concubine and wants her out of the house as well. With this, while the concubine was aware, she was deceived at the severity of the added ingredient. I have not read the book, but in the drama Nanny Zhou was the brains of the outfit who had no bottom line in what she would do or have done to raise the status of her family in the Gu home. The concubine and daughter were not as evil or meanspirited as they are being now. Here it seems the drama is changing their characters to match the book more which is a damn shame. The story would have been much more interesting with the family to have the girls being friends like they were headed in the first few episodes. Once they changed the stepsister to the catty mean girl she is now she is much less interesting and far more predictable. She makes the mom stick to her ignorance story because it is very clear who is not the brains of the outfit.😝 Lan has one last chat with the nanny and promises to look after her mom. Lord Chen has just heard of YeXian’s assist to JinZhao. It never occurred to him that Ye Xian did have skills tho not of the soldier variety. As a spy or assassin he would totally kick ass if his father would acknowledge where his abilities were instead of the incessant berating and lamenting how he did not have a mini me.😝🙄 Ye Xian would love it that Chen is pacing and insecure on how to catch up in JinZhao’s eyes.😂🤣 I am kinda sad he didn’t get to be a bit smug with this because he really deserves a moment to shine in spite of public opinion and his rather reckless impulsive behavior. He is an amalgam of kindness and ruthlessness that he’s figuring out. Chen decides on a gift and has a secret meeting with JinZhao where he gives her a whistle. This is an emergency call for help. She tries it out and he stopped. Here I wish he would have returned to see where the moment led. But that didn’t happen. He did, however, let her know where he would be in a few days. Things are gonna be interesting in the Gu house. Nanny should have been executed for attempted murder, but it will have to suffice that she’s out of the house. What they will probably do is make step sis the new mastermind and that’s a damn shame. She could have been so much more as an ally. JinZhao did her best to get her mother to leave the house and divorce him. Lady Gu can’t deny her unhappiness, but she is determined to continue on her chosen path. Whether she is being a martyr for her children or there is some other story of their marriage we don’t know yet, she refuses to leave him for reasons only she understands. Now to see how stepsister and concubine act without nanny dearest. 😝

Lord Chen’s mother is having breakfast and making plans for a celebration. She is wanting to invite Wan Xue and mentions the loss of Chen’s wife after two years in their house. Right when she is asking him about who has caught his eye he is saved by his servant. The Gu son is in trouble because of gambling ties. Chen is trying to get him out before the raid and asks for an audience with JinZhao. She has a case with her and the conversation starts with her brother. It is agreed he was not part of the gang, but getting him away is imperative. He told her no further gifts but made it clear he wanted to know what she had brought. The heartbeat added to the music was spot on. He is pleased with the reparations to his cape and puts it on. The man definitely has flare when putting on capes and robes.🔥Daddy Gu has just learned of his son’s troubles and the shouting begins. The son has been abducted so there is a cluster at the Gu house trying to figure out how to rescue him and keep the news quiet. Lady Gu has collapsed because she now knows thanks to gossiping servants. It is clear nanny Zhou is behind it all. She should have had her tongue removed rather than just a beating. I have no clue why she is allowed to run the house but she needs to go.😡🤬Her daughter knows something is up but for now let’s things go. YeXian’s servant finds and brings the son back and daddy Gu is on a roll. The son deserved a beating for stupidity but his rant about the Ji family was over the top. JinZhao laid out reality for him in what the Ji’s contribution was and dared him to settle up. He laments having no son to carry on his legacy. 😝As if he had character to brag about. Something better be done to get nanny Zhou the punishment she deserves. 🤬 Lady Gu collapsed and is recovering. The only good thing that has happened is that JinZhao is letting herself be closer to her mother. There is not deep affection yet but she is concerned for her. The son is doing the first responsible thing he has done in a very long time, he is kneeling in apology outside his mother’s room. Lord Chen is working behind the scenes to assist but Mr Gu is in trouble because of his son’s actions. The biggest question I have about LadyGu’s care is why is nanny Zhou in charge of making the meds instead of the lady’s own servant? This makes no sense to me. 🧐 I liked that JinZhao walked right by her brother without a glance. He needs to know that a charming disposition and smile can’t make up for reckless behavior that endangers the entire family’s reputation. I am hoping his punishment has beaten the Gu out of him. 😝He needs to get into a trade and have his Ji side shine. JinZhao is at her mother’s side and her mother is lamenting her choices and apologizing. It is very sincere and heartfelt but to some, she lost her spine along with her child that day. She let herself be punished as penance for submitting to her husband and sending her daughter away. JinZhao is moved and for the first time calls her mother. She is getting ready to settle some scores and starts with her brother. She doesn’t say a word but gives a resounding slap and continues to the house. She is shaken by her mother’s words and replays her treatment of her mother since her arrival. She has her servant give an invitation to YeXian to thank him for saving her brother. She puts on quite a show for him and gets him to the family’s private suite. There he is tied up and questioned. He admits to kidnapping her brother and when he makes wisecracks about Lord Chen, she gave me a laugh out loud moment when she planted her foot center mass on his chest and knocked him and chair to the floor.😂🤣 He has a point that where blood is concerned she is less decisive in dealing with it. He had hoped to plant a scare that would permanently dissuade the brother from going to gambling houses. She let him know his actions caused her mother to collapse and stay bedridden. He was remorseful with this news because he had truly only intended to help her. She leaves him stranded on the floor and told him he deserved it. He could only laugh at his predicament. He smiles because he enjoys wholeheartedly the chaos she brings. She follows the rules of her choosing and this adds color and interest to his surroundings. This is what he admires most about her. His servant came back with details about the raid and how Chen had sent men just for the brother. It seems they both had similar ideas on how to straighten him out. JinZhao has offered a reward for finding her brother and the search is on. However there is another search in same area with much more at stake. Lord Chen is looking for a courier and it will be a literal battle to find him. JinZhao has to stop her search til a wheel is repaired, so she offers 100 taels of silver to whoever finds her brother. Lord Chen survives an attack and is brought to same shed. She is looking at his wounds and wondering what happened as she applies medicine. The episode ends right when things were getting interesting. A real doctor wrote a script for Lady Gu and I am hoping nanny Zhou’s treachery gets revealed with some real consequences. She has been running the show for too long. The drama remains interesting with a lot going on. My favorite scene was when the heartbeat added to music as Chen gets closer to JinZhao to inspect her gift. Things are heating up between them and I want to enjoy every detail of their budding romance.😁

This episode has JinZhao meeting her paternal gma. She made a favorable impression tho the granddaughter quickly teamed up with step sis to talk down to her. JinZhao is forced to take the eldest daughter position to rebut and admonish the gossiping girls about Liu family. There is one missing from the party and it turns out to be YeXian’s sister. She is late because he has invited himself to go along. JinZhao is far from happy with this development. The family goes to see an opera and YeXian manages to get himself seated by JinZhao. She finally has enough of his chatting and leaves to change. He finds her handkerchief and there is an argument over it. She claims it isn’t hers. There is a very cute exchange with a kitten and HeXian’s better side is revealed. At the embroidery session, JinZhao deliberately does a bad job because she doesn’t want to reveal the handkerchief is hers. She is mocked by the two girls and YeXian gives the handkerchief to step sis who shows it to everybody there. This backfires a bit when the older sis recognizes the handkerchief JinZhao and her brother fighting about. She later goes to her brother and tells him neither Gu girl is acceptable as bride material and tells his servant to pack his things. She is sending him home.The one good development is YeXian and JinZhao both learned about the invitation step sis swiped. JinZhao confronts her and agrees to let this slide, but to bear in mind she wasn’t the sort to return evil with kindness. 😝The new girl mocks JinZhao’s mom for being a merchant. JinZhao got the upper hand by telling her her hairpin was a fake. She even told her the test she could do on it to find out.😂🤣 While JinZhao is choosing gifts to send to Chen, her brother shows up and hints of blackmail about her bridge meeting with XuanQing. She counters with the 200 taels he wanted. There is a pawn slip but she doesn’t believe his story. She does learn he works for the gambling hall as a frontman. He entices young men to try their luck. Chen has received the gifts and his servant opens the boxes. The first is a set of binoculars which he liked. The second was a pair of glasses which he was not enthused with. Did JinZhao send them because he would look good with them on or because she considered him old and needing them? Guess we will find out next episode. 😂🤣 I completely missed the nod to his character in The Shadow’s Edge with the glasses. 😂😂 Had to come back and correct this. The changes they made to the sibling characters make this less fun to watch. I keep grumbling during their scenes. What happened to the brother that stood up for her and the sis that helped her sneak out of the house? I still like JinZhao’s character and want to see how things progress with Lord Chen, but I am a lot less enthused with the family machinations. They are tiring. 😝🙄 The palace politics are better than the Gu family interactions. If the nanny kills the mother, they better kill her off too.😡

Ye Xian challenged Chen about his job but Chen made it clear that a desperate man was not fit to be near the crown prince. Later his aide revealed Chen was keeping Ye Xian away from the clash of military and nobles. Ye Xian left some gifts for the crown prince and was rewarded with a token that would allow him access to the eastern part of the palace. XuanQing did not want to accept the marriage arrangement Lord Chen and mother arranged for him with Yu Wan Xue. He was brought to a memorial site where his father’s name was remembered. He was a criminal that had caused the deaths of many and his mother committed suicide shortly after. Chen adopted him and made him 5th son. He encouraged him to accept the marriage because he and WanXue’s father were the only two that knew of his father’s crime. If he became an official in the future, his family secret could be kept if his father in law was the only one that knew. JinZhao is so hopeful on the bridge with her kite. She is declaring her affection for XuanQing openly. He wants to accept, but lacks the courage to handle any investigation into his family. So he sends his aide with her notes and refuses her confession. She is very sad but knows she put herself out there and refuses to have regrets. The step sis has been made into the typical mean girl now trying to include the brother with her meanspirited intentions. Surprisingly he stands up for JinZhao, but he also understands that trashing JinZhao’s reputation doesn’t help their status so he gets the step sis to agree to keep her mouth shut about XuanQing. The mother’s cough has returned thanks to nanny😡 She is on my last nerve. I am not a fan of rhubarb, but I am not understanding how that works as a poison with her medicine. The mom shouldn’t be trusting them and have a third party physician. She has sent JinZhso out to enjoy the fireworks and is now coughing blood. This plot was to get the concubine back in charge of the house. That whole meal was almost a complete disaster, but the mother did remember to mention gma and the meatballs to give JinZhaoa small keepsake memory of her family home in Tongzhou. Chen worked to get the iron fireworks at the celebration with JinZhao in mind. JinZhao climbs for a good view of the fireworks and slips. Again Chen rescues her, and tho wearing a mask she now recalls he is the one that saved her in TongZhou. Her maid points out that he has saved her three times and she wonders how she can repay such a debt. YeXian recognizes Chen and knows he is not going to get the girl. XuanQing has a melancholy look as well. Chen’s painting is very like JinZhao and he is startled and pleased as he recognizes he is starting to have feelings for her. He sends his servant to invite her over. He started to add something to the invitation and changed mind so now I am not sure if that meant he also changed mind about invitation. The concubine and nanny were looking pleased. The nanny doesn’t refrain from physical harm to get her way. I really want to see her kicked out and jailed.😡 I am still enjoying JinZhao’s character, but I am absolutely hating that they have completely flipped the step sis’ actions at beginning of story and have made her the typical mean girl. They were so much better as a united pair. The three siblings should be getting along nicely and enjoying the fireworks together but they are all split up instead. This was missed opportunity to have more unique family ties.
