was looking for dramas to watch and i happen to see this for being one of MDL's top airing shows but HOLY I DID…
It is really just 50. It is the normal 50 episode weekend drama, they just divided it into 30min episodes so they can run more advertisements. So instead of an hour episode on Saturday and Sunday, you get two 30min episodes on each day.
Also regarding the ending, Xun-er mentioned having a secret mission when entering the Xiao family but she also…
It depends on how they do it, as it strays from the source material. For reference, the ending of this show is the first time you even encounter the soul hall in the novel. That scene in the novel is also completely different, as she just tells him straight up from what I remember. He wasn't "dying" at the time in the novel, and she just wanted to let him know that she loved him regardless.
You also probably don't have to worry about the harem (though I found it reasonable). The characters he loves in the novel, have had completely different interactions so far with him in the show.
I don't even know how I feel about this drama. They might as well have changed all the character names, because it is maybe 10% similar to the novel. The only character even close to being like the novel counterpart was Xun Er. I still enjoyed what they did with a few characters, but the others are so drastically different it's mind blowing.
To be honest, 128 just isn't a big enough sample size. While it is interesting to read and think about, the biggest issue is that people lie. Even within the sample size, I wouldn't be surprised if people didn't completely tell the truth. Controversial topics will always lead to people saying things that might not completely reflect their thoughts or actions as they will worry about outside perception. Also, I doubt the army of trolls are in your feed, which heavily influence the overall state of the ratings.
I tend to rate heavily on if I am willing to watch the show again in the future. I will give my initial rating based on all basic criteria (story, acting, characters, music etc.) and then change it later if I find I have no intention of even trying to watch it again. However, it does annoy me to see dramas getting rated even before they air (not sure how that happens), and people dropping it after the first episode and giving it a rating. Not to mention making multiple accounts just to down vote a show. It is what it is though.
Although I don't share your opinion about either the 2 main couples nor the father, I'm with you about Choi Seo…
I don't believe it was the double in law issue, because that is one of the most common tropes in family dramas. I have seen that in almost every daily I have watched, as multiple family members end up falling for each other. Unless they didn't want to do that trope, but hit every other one in existence? I mean we literally had an upgraded cancer cliche. He doesn't have it, its all in his head, oh wait jk he actually has it.
Actually PSH admitted to sleeping with her, that was never even a debate. The debate was whether it was consensual, as there was cctv of her being carried in over the friends shoulder. So it became, she was obviously way too drunk, or even passed out. I don't know about the whole leaving happily thing, but for all anyone would know she didn't think about the situation until later. As in, oh I just slept with a star....wait I don't even remember anything. There was already an issue going on because she originally texted the friend of PSH whether she could have gotten pregnant.
The scandal broke afterwards because she started to get texts from a friend, but supposedly she was only the proxy for a management agency. As the second those texts started happening she cut off contact with the PSH's friend. Which is why PSH tried to sue his former CEO after everything was "resolved". Again trainee vs literally anyone in that situation and she is screwed. In the end, I don't think the actual full story will ever come to light, but I still don't like the power dynamic involved. Just my opinion.

True enough, I guess I find it odd how you always hear whispers about how dark the entertainment industry can be in SK, yet I never hear about people getting punished. I mean there have been quite a few suicides from young actresses and trainees who describe the horrible things they have to go through, but again no talk of punishments. He is also from a rich family (it can't help but play a role in a power struggle) and he confirmed that they had to carry her in because she couldn't walk in by herself. So it still comes across as scummy to me as he was in the position of power. She was too drunk to walk, and it is star + friend vs trainee. /Shrug
As far as the best couple goes, I can only assume they received some sort of feedback that told them most people weren't that interested in them. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense how they pushed it to the side. The two families are pretty terrible though. No one from either side found out they were together all the time? Just shows how little they meant to their respective families.
The only other thing would be the two episode extension they received, which has doomed a lot of shows in respect to decent endings.

For better or worse I feel like Park Shi Hoo's scandal has left an imprint in my mind. I just don't care about his character or him, and I have started to find things in his acting that rub me the wrong way. The way that he smiles like "look at me, you can't hate me" in every show he has done constantly, feels off putting to me. So maybe that is why his relationship in the show just didn't matter to me. /shrug
If Ji Soo had actually had any sort of setback I would have probably enjoyed her more, but she literally was a crybaby from beginning to end. She blamed everyone around her for everything, and not once did she actually help to solve anything. I actually really liked her caring attitude in the beginning, but it slowly devolved into this spoiled child kind of attitude. Ji Soo and Seo Hyun were like two sides of the same coin, but Seo Hyun had actual reasons for being, for lack of a better word, warped. Still can't believe they didn't provide any resolution for her character.
What a downward spiral this show turned in to imo. The two main couples quite frankly didn't even deserve anything, and the father angle was a cheap attempt at getting him redemption. While some characters grew, most remained stagnant throughout the entire show. Choi Seo Hyun and Seo Ji Ho were the only ones I ended up rooting for, and like clockwork they were given the most ridiculous ending.
How is it, that aside from the single conversation the father had with Seo Hyun, no one else other than Ji Ho helped her at all? I mean even after that one conversation where you think the father is enlightened at at how much he neglected his daughter, they send her off for an arranged marriage.....like wth? I mean how tragic was that conversation? Ji Soo remained in her own world and not once tried to bond or help her younger sister, and the same for Do Kyung. Unbelievable.
I love Jiang Maggie, but this show really was a letdown. It comes across as totally obvious that they either cut episodes or just flat out screwed up. That ending was horrible.
I find that with the more dramas that I watch, the more their rewatch value becomes a factor. Some dramas where the twists or secrets were a huge theme, I don't touch. The others I find myself constantly changing should I watch them again.
Which actress? The lead. I want to start this but I won't if they changed the lead actress.
It was the character Lee So Jung. Not sure why she is so far down the list for the cast as she is practically a main character. The original actress was Yoon Seo. I couldn't find anything on why the switch occurred back when the show aired, but apparently she was really sick. She has a rare disease and had to have one of her lungs removed.
