I have finished, and I quite agree with you. It seemed that they try to meet the standard contemporary 24 episode limit, and could have been shorter. But I think it was still good. At least the MCs didn't die as I had the feeling about.

It was a good drama to watch, quite interesting, especially the legends like old english fairy tale style. But yeah, in the last episodes, it gives those pangs many times, where you feel a high possibility of any of them dying and then it would become sad in the ending. Thankfully that didn't happen. I was already not interested in seeing death of MCs after watching the dread Killer and Healer.
