Finished Ep. 14 and I have debated in my head how to rate this. Some things were spectacular but the cringe continues. Then I re-read what I wrote yesterday:
"Until Ep. 13, this was a 10⭐ for me and I was simply waiting for the last episode to make final decision. My final rating will depend on whether or not they stick the landing (from a romantic standpoint) for a couple that I absolutely adore - as individuals, and as a friendship/comradeship/healing/supportive couple. "
So, 10⭐. They absolutely stuck the landing. Especially if you are a fan of Soo Hyuk.
Ep 14 preview is misleading as usual. I think the order will be like this: 1. Ju Hwan propose to Bora. Her smile…
Take another look at their different outfits. I agree that the preview does not present a straight line of events in Ep. 14, but the outfits give a clue.
I only watched 4 episodes but its really not doing it for me. like ALL these people need to stay single, they…
"Do people really think this drama is good and deserves 8.3 rating"

from the previews I can’t believe we’re really having FL “dumping” ML before they even officially start…
Repeat after me: Previews are misleading. Previews are misleading.
Nevertheless, as God is my witness, I do not understand ENA thinking that THIS preview is somehow appealing to viewers who have watched 12+ episodes w/charming, loveable Main Couple and will want to watch anything shown in the preview.
Haven’t thought of it this way. In my mind, I pictured character growths for our main characters where they…
"Haven’t thought of it this way. In my mind, I pictured character growths for our main characters where they needed to face their fears and insecurities." . . . . ." It’ll be like a splash of cold water if this turns out differently."
The title of Episode 12 is: "Like a scene from a Drama". That's when I began to begin analyzing the drama as a challenge against the trope "scenes from a drama".
I haven't rated this show yet, noro have I written a review, but everything is now dependent upon not only the final result/outcome for the Special Couple but also HOW it is accomplished.
I so agree with you. Writer is mocking every tired trope out there. But then perhaps the drama should not have…
"But then perhaps the drama should not have been labeled a rom com. "
I am still keeping fingers crossed. I will be able to watch almost immediately upon release. I will be getting up early in morning, and FF through every scene involving "the extras" to see whether or not they "stick the landing".
Beware a k-drama viewer scorned - we can be brutal with our ratings and emojis.
She won't able to say fuck off to her cheater ex but she has ability to point of out ml shortcomings. Wow.He already…
"He needs to speak up and grow some balls ...fight for what you want."
And if he doesn't "grow some balls"?? Then what? Just throw in the towel and commit suicide? ?? {I know that's not your point, but "growing some balls" is not an instant solution either.]
Based on Ep. 14 preview, Soo Hyuk is in total despair (and I'm not talking about the drunk scene). He hates himself because he can't say certain words even though he has tried to indirectly communicate over and over again.
This is who he is. If Bo-ra cannot accept that, then so be it. They shouldn't be together.
I am DEFINITELY stressed out at this point, lol. I had such high hopes for them - just wanted the writer to stick the landing in a meaningful - and accepting - way.
I may be wrong, but perhaps this is where this drama (“True to Love” in English speaking market) has been headed. From the beginning, the writer has poked fun at and/or teased out various k-drama/romcom tropes: * Bo-ra’s many fantasies regarding the much-anticipated engagement – straight out of rom-com k-dramas; * Rich corporate executive (Sang Jin) and spunky office worker (Yu-ri) * Misunderstood young girl and persistent (we labeled him "stalker" for a reason) young man-in-insta-love * Symbols of public love – Yu-ri wanted the matching shirts; Yu Jung and her designer purse fetish; expensive restaurants and huge bouquets (Ju Hwan); * Estranged couple possibly reuniting (They were the only other couple that I was rooting for) * Even the handsome-man-of-action-but-few-words was there as viewers screamed at the TV set – “Tell Her You Love Her, Soo Hyuk – that will solve everything” because in other dramas, it IS the solution!
HOWEVER, contra the normal tropes, Bo-ra’s downfall was epic and not instantly cured – it was a major twist from the usual Two-Episodes-and-all-is-well. Soo Hyuk (the only sane and authentic person in the whole show) was severely hurt by the break-up with Yu-ri (no Two Episode bounce back for him either). Their relationship was refreshingly different from the usual rom-com formula.
One by one, the writers have re-written the standard ending. Bo-ra’s fantasy of the engagement, wedding and growing old were just that – fantasy out of her beloved dramas. Sang Jin did the PROPER thing and didn’t get involved with the young office worker. The young lovers have been hit with reality with the force of a baseball bat. Sang Jin and Soo Jin did not reunite. And a designer purse, matching shirts or mega large bouquets are not a substitute for true love.
Although I know Bo-ra won’t get back with the ex, I’m afraid the writer is still laughing at the viewers for expecting the proverbial happy ending for our couple because after all –if the other tropes were demolished, why should the Main Couple be any different. I’m not going to sleep well tonight.
Is Sanjin and U-ri storyline really finished? I feel confused on why Sanjin can’t be happy
When the show first began, I said I wanted Yu Jung to dump her hubby and hook up with Sang Jin. (Partly because the two actors are alumni of Alchemy of Souls, lol).
And after 13 episodes of Jin Woo, I'm back to thinking it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Some people here are overreacting about FL. She's not gonna get together with her ex. But her not wanting to drop…
I think Soo Hyuk made up his mind and he tried to express it in that first scene. And his message was received - her immediate thought was what she hoped their future would be. This was on the same evening as Yu-ri's wedding.
I didn't mind the ex throwing the curve-ball, it was expected and it reinforces that the ex is Garbage-with-a-capital-G. But I am disappointed that both of them regressed to almost Episode 2 level pettiness (their first meet-up at the office). IOW, I am really disappointed in the writers for escalating the hurt feelings and their almost childish reactions.
BTW, Aramintal - you were right. Yu-ri was at Sang Jin and Soo Jin's wedding. 😁
I don't mind the scumbag (since it directly relates to Bora and Soo Hyuk's story) but I still don't care what…
I agree with you on his motivation, and it doesn't bother me because it's the catalyst for the Final Misunderstanding - but at this point, because the other couples are taking up so much oxygen, Ep. 14 is going to be rushed and I really hoped the writer would avoid that.
Just with two episodes left it was pretty important to make the best use of time in the development of Deborah…
I don't mind the scumbag (since it directly relates to Bora and Soo Hyuk's story) but I still don't care what happens to the other couples and they both seem to be sinking more than ever and taking up precious time.
I am convinced that this show is a retro-homage to the k-dramas of the 2010-2015 era. The cute little sounds and over-the-top physical antics. The drama is based upon an "animated series "Yeongsimi", which in turn is based on the comic series "14-year-old Yeongsimi" . It's like a real-life comic book. The scene between Young Shim and her crazy/surreal boss was straight out of something from k-drama 10 years ago.
It will never get a 10⭐ from me, but it's fun and has a vintage/retro vibe that is enjoyable to watch.
Counting down the hours - how to fill in the time???
Maybe enjoy this video (from 2 weeks ago) of Yoon Hyun Min (MY fave) and Yoo In Na. Many references to the drama and I especially enjoyed their interchange regarding "warm weather" scenes in the winter vs. "cold weather" scenes during hot weather. (Mark 5:00).
