Episode 38 (prior cliffhanger: Tae Min and Grandmother meet face-to-face on the roof) Ratings hit a record 20.6 (highest for a Saturday episode)

Episode 39 (prior cliffhanger: Grandmama and Kang Jin Bum meet-up) Ratings hit another record of 22.1 (prior high was 21.4)

I'm thinking the Kang family trauma starts to sort out within a few (5-6) episodes and then - BAM, Papa Lee shows up.

I think there are many more reveals to come and if I was a gambler, I would bet that they are half brothers. But who is his mom and who is his father? That's still to come.

And why did Grandmother sent Tae Ho off to the United States? Why was she overly protective of Tae Ho? Maybe we will get more info when their little chat continues next week.

The actor that portrays Tae Min was born in 1981, but Tae Min (the character) is 40 years old. (planning his "40th" birthday party; making him vice-chairman when he is "40").

Re: Tae Ho's age, from Ep. 3: "TH's father became vice-chair when he was only a few years older than TH's age. He saw his father become vice-chair in his late '30s." TH appears to be 36-37.

I was reading the Kocowa subs - and KBS is a part owner of Kocowa. They usually translate in a way that "sounds" best to the USA viewer. For instance, someone in the US is more likely to say "He's your little brother" than "He's your younger brother." Well, at least that's my take on it. 😊

Spoilerish for Episode 39??

Ko Joo Won posted photos on Instagram showing a visit to TM Aunt's art museum/gallery – gazing at artwork that originally came from actor Lee Kwang Gi’s(Yeom) art gallery. For those who aren’t aware, Lee Kwang Gi’s main profession is “art gallery owner” – Gallery KKI. Acting seems to be a side gig.😊

Anyway, Kwang-gi commented: “Oh what a pic ... Vice President”
Joo-won responded: “Thank you, senior~^^ The place was a big help!! 🤟” (Vulcan hand signal – I had to look it up). Hmmmm. . . .now how did that visit help TM???

Not to be outdone, Im Ju Eun (Su-kyung) commented: “It's a very desirable update lol Head of HQ Kang Tae-min”. Joo-won: “Please come back” and she responded: “Oh my. Can’t help it if you talk like that. . .(. . 😉) [wink]". I know she will return, but suspect it will be a gun or knife or some attack on Hyo Shim, boring, stupid, boring. 🤣

Haha, I've been gone all day and altho I was able to rush through the raw version early this morning, I was only able to watch the first few minutes w/subtitles of TM and Granny before I needed to leave. So, i'm not sure what was said or done later on in the episode but the main point I got out of their conversation is confirmation that Grandmother trusts Tae Min - not Tae Ho - to protect Taesan Group. 🥰🥰🥰

Sub or no sub, your summary matches my understanding of what was happening with the other couples - which I suppose is a good indication that the director is doing a good job of bringing out the characters and their stories - words weren't required.

Finally watched last night and understand the low MDL rating. Tt was BAD - really bad - in terms of cheesy, mundane dialogue. No sparkle or wit thus far. Even a birth secret telegraphed from the very beginning. A truly awful potential suicide scene that was. . . . mundane and pointless.

I'll continue watching a few more episodes because of Kang Ki Young. His scripted words may be bland, but he's a great actor and his scenes were enjoyable. Meanwhile, another favorite Seo Hye Won, who played memorable characters in "Alchemy of Souls" and "Business Proposal", was absolutely wasted by both the script and director. Lee Ji Ah looked like she was sleepwalking through most of it - why is she considered a "star"??

The teasers (and even the intro) promise a quirky, bad-ass team of hi-jinks but thus far it's hasn't delivered. If it continues on this dark path, I'll be dropping which saddens me because it's been on Watchlist ever since I read that KKY would be the ML. 🙁🙁

Meanwhile, Go Joo Won looks mighty smexy in those suits. 🤩

However, unlike previous dreamy Instagram photos , today he posted photos with his dog CoCo. Very charming and cute. Ha Jun and Im Ju Eun (Su-kyung) both commented - it's nice they all get along with each other. 😊

Thank you😊😊 - I've watched some advance clips and I know it will be a great episode, especially since Jo Han Chul has a one-on-one with In Soo.

Could you please point me in the right direction? My favorite of all Yoo In Soo is featured in Episode 2 (Jan. 30th episode).

Hmmm. . . .he discovered that his mother imprisoned his grandmother. From my memory, that's the only "wrongdoing" he is aware of and it was after the fact at a point when there was nothing he could do about it - and he re-started his efforts to discover her whereabouts.

And why is Tae Min the bad guy when granny CHOSE to stay hidden? Not only after she escaped but also after she was pronounced dead. I mean, Hell's Bells, if she had appeared at that point - OR if she had arisen from the grave - all of these problems/conflicts would disappear. So if you want to blame anyone for the current contretemps, blame ole granny. I'm being facetious of course because after all, this is a 50 episode family drama and those cliffhangers are critical to good ratings, lol. But don't blame TM for granny's choices.

And TM harbored "ill will against TH? I've always used the term "resentment" and it relates to BOTH cousins. For instance:

TH: ".I’ve been compared to him my whole life."
TH: "When I was little, my tutors always wanted to teach Tea Min, not me"
TH": "I can't be half the man as Tae Min".

They are both flawed characters. Neither one is "better" than the other.

In my very humble opinion, of course. 😀😀

Hmmmmm. . . . .this isn't either/or. In my long rant, I think I made the same point. Both men are equally devoted to their parents. TM gave Dragon Mom an opportunity to reverse course. TH still believes that his parents are "saints" (and apparently his mother was), but he refused to accept TM's claims that TH's father abused him physically and verbally.

If the writer doesn't re-write the facts surrounding the accident, then Tae Ho will discover that the Chairman wasn't at fault. Will he regret his revenge rampage when he finds out who was culpable? (again - assuming writer hasn't re-written the original story).

My first was TRHC because of the "contract marriage" plot line. I swore - SWORE!! - that I would never watch another weekender except. . . . LYOL featured a favorite - Ha Jun. So, I started - and was frankly impressed by the director's decisions, the script, the mystery, the very, very professional/creative camera work. it's special for many reasons, but I'm simply not drawn to Hyo Shim or "golden retriever" (@bloomingtide's term) Tae Ho.

Sigh - 13 episodes to go and I'm not going to drop at this point.

Well, I think that all I really want at this point is for Tae Ho to stop his "poor me/REVENGE IS MY MANTRA" mentality.

Both men will get a happy ending. Tae ho married to Hyo Shim. And Tae Min? I don't know - I really wanted Su-kyung to be a positive force in this drama, but writer, even tho she presented Su-kyung as a woman in love, has decided for now that she is just a pawn in the chessboard.

As God is my witness, This Is My Second - AND LAST - Weekender. 😂

My God - I can't lower my rating much lower!

It has been very clear that Dragon Mom visited Kang Jin Bum while he was at the textile factory and seduced him. He has regretted that evening because it (apparently) forced him to marry her.

Was she already pregnant? After Episode 37, it is clear that Yeom believes that he is the father. Will that be the final resolution - I have a difficult time believing that is the 'end' for Tae min, but I've already reduced my MDL rating - not far to go before it is .05 🤣🤣🤣
