I just completed this drama less than 10 minutes ago and I have to say it’s sooo good. I might need to rewatch it though with good subtitles, or at least some episodes. May do a review of this also so future viewers can decide if they want to watch it, because I really do recommend it.

Yes, Li Qi is an awesome character with morals and good fighting skills. The actor reminds me a little bit of Daddi Tang, heights and looks wise.

It’s in the beginning, I don’t remember the exact episode but they don’t drag it out too long. Before he gets revealed as the emperor (not by himself, people notice and bow down to him and that’s when she realizes he’s actually the emperor).

That makes sense. He doesn’t seem particularly close to any of them even though he respects them. I need to rewatch it with good subtitles because I might have missed that. I also wanted to know Li Qi’s relationship to “Dora’s mom”? Like I don’t know if it’s a translation error but they keep calling her Dora’s mom but who is Dora? I see they respect her but I don’t think that’s their real mom? I need to rewatch it again lol. Thanks for clarifying about the emperor’s birth mom. Much appreciated.

FL was gambled away by her father to marry one of the prince’s but she played a trick and made herself look ugly so she doesn’t have to get married. She still needed to work in the palace though. This story takes place in the ending of the Qing Dynasty and beginning of People’s Republic of China. So the emperor is really the last emperor. The ML is the palace guard for the emperor but also his friend. Emperor always wants to go out from the Forbidden City but he can’t. The FL is very outspoken and that gets her in a lot of trouble. When the emperor disguises as a eunuch, FL doesn’t realize and causes him trouble and scolds him and even tried to run away with him but gets caught and finally realizes he is the emperor. She goes from a spoiled maid to a respected cook/maid. Even when she gets in trouble she doesn’t bring people down with her. The FL and ML couldn’t stand each other at first but as time goes on, they started to respect each other and slowly fall in love (ML falls first and FL is afraid to like him because her friend in the palace also likes him so she avoids him as much as possible). The eunuchs in here are horrible vile people and the amount of times that FL is targeted by them is way too much. There is a eunuch in there that wanted to kill her at first because she found a book he wanted but then because she’s so kind, he secretly protects her. I’m almost done with the series and if there are good non AI generated subs, I might rewatch it. it’s such a good and interesting show. I’m glad the ratings are high even though it’s not a popular drama with a big name cast.

They don’t really want power, just one of them causes trouble lol. But mostly everyone has character growth, which is good. And I don’t know if it’s the bad subs, but I still don’t know who the biological mom is because he calls all of them mother. When I have good subtitles I might watch it again or at least episode 10, because that was the only one that had no English subtitles at all (on iQIYI).

They are his mothers. He has a wife that they will show later. His father is the late emperor who they haven’t shown. And yes, I didn’t like FL at first but she grows up. There’s another character I don’t like and I’m already on episode 34 and still no growth from her.

yes, she has 3 people who like her. one doesn’t like her until much later, but I don’t think in a romantic sense. He protects her silently

Thanks for the info! looks like only 3 episodes are up and I’m already on episode 30 lol. I hope future viewers who watch it on YouTube with good subtitles will watch it because it’s really good. The AI subs are so bad at some parts on iQIYI which kind of sucks because it’s hard to follow along.

This says it’s done airing as of April, but I can only find the first 2 episodes on WeTV on YouTube. The links in the comments below no longer work and says video unavailable ☹️ I watched what’s out there now and it’s pretty funny. Still no subtitles? Junk. I just watched the previews for episodes 27 and 28, and there’s no subtitles. Hopefully they’ll have it by the time it airs. I really wish iQIYI fixes their subbing issues. As VIP members, we should be able to enjoy watching episodes with decent subtitles. And yes, I doubt Viki will have access but hopefully another channel does. I saw the first couple episodes on another channel on YouTube but with no English subtitles. It’s a shame because this drama is soooo good. I would rate it a 10 on story alone, but the AI subs are making me deduct points lol.

My first time seeing him in The Last Cook. This guy is so handsome 😍 I hope he gets more main roles in the future. His acting is pretty good for an unknown actor.

Yes, I wish Viki or even Youku or Tencent could air it. I’m even okay with MangoTV’s AI subs at this point. I can’t stand the repeated words on the episodes and even having episode 10 not have any subs at all 🥲

I have been waiting for this to air and it’s finally here. After I watch all on air episodes of The Last Cook (so underrated imo), I’m going to give this drama a try.
