The portrayal of their naiveness is realistic. You don't have to find faults in absolutely everything because…
This is not about the ship. I could care less about who Dal Mi ends up with. The thing is, like you pointed out they're too naive. The world is a harsh place. If you want to talk about being realistic; realistically they wouldn't have gotten that far without HJP. And that fact has nothing to do with the ships, it's just because HJP is a good mentor.
I just realize after rewatching. The night before the contract signing instead of reviewing the contents of the agreement, they instead planned a future business. Well that was stupid.
Since this was written by the same writer who wrote While You Were Sleeping, I remember the 2nd lead syndrome was also strong on that one and it helped Jung Hae In propel into the spot light. I see that it is happening to Kim Seon Ho too. What can I say? The writer writes better 2nd MLs.
I find it so funny that HJP literally had just one sick day leave and the whole team of SST messed up already bc HJP was not there to supervise them. It just shows how he is so vital in their success but they keep disregarding his effort because he was very critical of them and he is a potential love interest for Dal Mi. I can't believe this.
I will be forever annoyed at how they mixed their personal lives with their professional lives. Yong San and Nam Do San is the prime example of this. Han Ji Pyung has been trying to help them succeed but all they see is a man who has no remorse and a man who can potentially steal the girl?!? I can even think that HJP cares about SamSan Tech more than this two. I was more annoyed by Yong San this episode. I know grief comes in different forms, and I don't know what it's like but to hate a person fully to the extent that you are endangering your company to get your revenge. Yeah, I dont think that's it. This crisis they're facing would not have happened if he didn't stop HJP from calling DM and NDS. He didn't need to give out that long speech either. smh
BUT LOL for real? How can they missed that it was an acquisition rather than the investment? They didn't have second doubts at all? HJP was right, they are oblivious. And in addition, how can they not consult HJP for this? He is literally their advisor. A second opinion would have mattered a lot here. I hate how their personal opinions about their dislike for HJP overrule their rationality. They literally want to cut off ties with him because of personal reasons but in the 1st place, he was actually helping them. It doesn't matter if it was just for Dal Mi, the bottom line is that it propelled them to what they are now. I think I can get a picture of how this is gonna go tho; they will go to Sillicon Valley for 3 years, and then come back to start over again. But I am kind of skeptical because we are still at ep 11, that means there are 5 more eps. What's gonna happen now?
I love HJP a lot and he's my favorite character here, but NDS is cute and attentive tho. I just love the little things he does for Dal Mi like picking up her coat when it fell down the chair or asking about what she thinks. It's kinda cute.
I cant believe grandmother would want to continue the lie even after seeing HJP like that. I cant believe she's doing that to her granddaughter at HJP's expense.
HJP wtf. I know he never felt loved until he met grandmother, but please do not let that gratitude overtake his life. Stop it.
NDS well. He was kinds mean to HJP. If I were in NDM's place, I'd be grateful to him. He wouldnt be in Sandbox if it wasn't for Dal Mi and he wouldn't have met her if it wasnt because of HJP.
The real victim here is Dal Mi. She's getting betrayed by everybody she loves and respects. She's the only person Im rooting for. Im glad she knows what the truth now.
no, this isnt pre produced, shooting is still ongoing. Dosan is just more subtle and different than the usual…
Actually you're right. I made this comment before seeing ep 6 and I'm pretty sure I'm warming up to him. Maybe because he wasnt much of a focus in the previous eps that's why I couldn't see his charm.
I still don't want to think Han Ji Pyung as the second lead. He will not harbor any feelings towards Dal Mi, rather he will be a bridge between her and Do San.
I rarely experience 2nd lead syndrome, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be strong one if he becomes one. How can you waste such a good character development and make him just a 2nd lead? I know we're still in the 6th episode, but Do San is pretty bland in my opinion. ANYWAYS is this a pre-produced drama?
Im kinda confused Did Dal Mi's father die in the bus?? If so, who was that person in that airport who just arrived in the epilogue of ep4? I feel like I'm missing something
THIS HAD A GOOD FIRST HALF then it went downhill after that.
I really like the musical element in this show. It's interesting. We don't get to see this often especially knowing that the lead actors themselves are actually the one playing the musical instruments. BRAVO! The thing is when you add a push and pull romance with two introverted leads, it's a recipe for disaster. AND THEY HAD TO DO IT FOR 8 eps. As a viewer, this gets tiresome especially when it can be resolved through a talk. The thing I learned from watching this is that if you're insecure with yourself don't go into a relationship. You're just going to go crazy, making up scenarios in your head. In addition, there wasn't that much development in their characters in terms of their views in music until the last ep, which to me was just rush. Especially So Ah who had to put away her last remainder of youth, doing the violin and you just give up like that? Well, I'm not going to judge
Overall, I did find some cute moments. Some lessons to be learned and new music I can listen to (Who would have thought that I would love classical music?)
First of all, I do not understand why Park Bo Gum chose this as his farewell drama before entering the military. THIS WAS NOT MEMORABLE AT ALL. I love the idea of dreams and working hard for them, it's just that the execution and how this drama portrayed it was just disappointing. EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE don't get me wrong. It's just that there isn't that much depth in the developments in the characters that make you want to root for them. The additional dramas added to the plot were just plain and boring. There were so many interesting things they could have added. Honestly this is my least liked drama of this writer. ( I don't even like her in the first place). At least in the other dramas, she made me feel excitement in the beginning. My heart rate throughout the 8 weeks watching this show was stagnant. Nothing excited me at all. I genuinely just watched this for Park Bo Gum. Even him couldn't salvage this drama. This was a bore. The title says RECORD OF THE YOUTH, which makes you think "Ah, I'm going to learn something inspiring from here." I did not learn anything here except your favorite actors and actresses could be dating someone unknown and we as fans will never know.
Overall, disappointed. I'd rather watched a drama with Park Bo Gum playing that psychopathic boss in the first4 eps of the show. That would have been more interesting.
Since we're halfway through the drama, I think it's fair enough to say the writer has built a foundation for the story already. So I can judge it already.
This could have been interesting y'know. It talks about the process and the strugle of becoming an actor when you're not rich or famous. This is basically a behind-the-scenes snippet of what the tv and movie industry can be like. Or atleast that is what it's trying to showcase.
The thing about slice of life dramas is that it's supposed to spark some sort of familiarity and inspiration to the viewers. This drama isnt doing that. Not even Park Bo Gum's cheeky smile can distract me from this drama's surfaced-level storytelling. The story shifts too often to different aspects that you don't even have the time to become attached to the characters. I cant even root that much towards Hye Joon's success bc there isnt that much material on the backstory or struggle to root for tbh.
The romance on the other hand, I could care less genuinely. It's healthy. What is there to complain? I know this is Bo Gum's drama but I'm pretty sure So Dam is also a lead so why was there a particular ep when she had like 15 minute screen time? And she's only shown (lately) longer exposure in the episode when they go on dates? She's a strong girl too and she can have an interesting arc if the writer wants to. And the friendship between the male leads? What happened? I was pretty sure it was shown that they have a strong relationship why isn't it showcased more?
Am I going to drop this? Of course not. I dont drop dramas I simply put them on-hold :) (Im not putting this on-hold bc it's not that bad. It's just boring and plain)
Things I Like: 1.) Kim Bum. Did he always look this good? He looks hot but at the same time innocent. 2.) Fantasy. I tend to gravitate towards fantasy dramas just bc I like that it can be outrageous (in a good way). In addition, it's a modern take on mythical creatures of a certain culture which is a plus point for me.
Things I need to warm myself to: 1. Jo Bo Ah. I've seen a couple of her dramas where she was the lead and I never finish them. Hmm She's not that bad, but I just can't vibe with her. 2. Lee Dong Wook's hair. I like him better with black hair tbh but he looks more youthful with the brown one. 3. Show's storytelling, and pacing. It's cliche (Let's be real!). Not in a way that is too familiar. They do have existing tropes which I can say have been excessively used in kdramas. I dont mind cliche. Honestly, I live for it. As a watcher you have to be excited sometimes and when the show you're watching consists of the majority of the overused tropes, it wouldn't be that exciting anymore would it be? Yes, I'm aware we're still in the 2nd ep and basically in the story-building stage so some things might not make sense yet. It' s just that the manner as to how this show approaches it, it's mediocre. If the beginning is confusing what more when they start unfolding the story. And there are minor plot holes tbh (which hopefully won't become bigger as the story unfolds) I get it now why tvN opted this to be Wed-Thurs and not a weekend drama.
Overall, it's okay. Nothing revolutionary. If you like fantasy dramas or simply want to see two handsome men on your screen. You can watch this.
The appeal of this drama stems from the fact that the development of the leads' romance is very natural. You can even say that this could happen in real life. They're both so awkward together. I love it.
Can I just say how proud am I of Moon Young's growth as a person? Yes, she can still be reckless at times but she makes more rational decisions now. She's more aware of how selfish and inconsiderate she can be. I know it's mainly bc of Kang Tae, but the fact that she is willing to adjust for another person means a lot already (knowing she has anti-social personality). For example in ep 12, she actually went ahead with the photo shoot regardless of the uncertainty of Kang Tae's presence just bc Sang Tae really wanted to take a picture. What can I say? Our girl is growing up.
HJP wtf. I know he never felt loved until he met grandmother, but please do not let that gratitude overtake his life. Stop it.
