typical viewer bias against FL who doesn’t fit their idea of what a FL should do or say. I agree with you about ML at the start of the show. He was suffering from hubris because of his abilities even his Master advised him to slow his roll. His arrogance kinda led to his OG downfall. He did need a little bit of humbling TBH.

100% co-sign this review! I dropped it after the first case because FL was def a Mary Sue wrapped up tightly by the bright halo of Plot Armor from 1st episode. All the “good” characters loved her from the get-go. And I HATE love at first sight. I’m too old & jaded for that lol. It is disappointing to see it reach 10000 heat index for sometime kinda mid.

So…what are ur thoughts???

I haven’t seen such a visceral reaction of hate towards a FL in a looooong time so I think that’s the reason behind the lower rating or bad review. I usually watch shows on Viki w/comments on but I had to turn it off because of how mean & nasty it became towards FL.

Same!!! I think people viewed ML with rose-colored glasses and pretty much forgave him for trying to kill her or manipulating her. He tried to kill her up to episode 10ish- then he continued to manipulate/lied to her even though he was falling for her until she discovered his alter-ego. She may be harsh at times w/NH because of her fears but she was always honest about not wanting to start anything w/him because she feared the ending. When given the opportunity to hurt him by telling the emperor about the weapons, she didn’t. She didn’t hurt him- he sacrificed himself for her which was his choice always. He chose to continuing lying to her because like he said- he feared losing her love/trust as Shi 16. People understand his reasons for lying & forgive him but won’t show the same grace for SYM. I love SYM & NH- they’re both flawed people trying to navigate their trauma.

Just finished episode #2 and i take everything I said earlier back. This show is bad even with no expectations hahahaha. I don’t think imma continue 😑 I’m so desperate for a new show! After back to back greatness of POB & ADWAD, I need a new obsession!!!

I think enjoyment of any drama depends on the expectations going in. I randomly started episode 1 and am enjoying it for what it is- a fluffy, tropey romance driven drama that will prob be forgettable but not offensive? Hope they makes sense lol

I didn’t want to mention any names but I can’t take Ao RoP seriously as a god of war. He was so adorable as WuJi in Blood of Youth & I feel that character suits him better.

Same! I tried to watch a new show that also had a crown prince but the ML just didn’t have the same screen presence or aura as Nan Heng. TBH, Song Mo (Blossom) & Wei Shao (PoB) & Nan Heng have raised the bar way up when it comes to portraying Generals or Royalty on screen lol

It has a rating of 8.6 on MDL & Doubin rating of 7.0. A lot of people wrote reviews of it singing its praises & it’s getting lots of positive reactions on Weibo, X, Reddit, and Tik Tok. So if by 12 episodes ur still not enjoying it then it’s prob not ur cup of tea :)

I couldn’t help but laugh because of the “balance-of-pairing logic” from ADWAD — this show’s FL maid paired with the ML side-kick lol too spot on!

Glad u pointed it out because it brings up the concept of nature vs nurture. The environment you grew up in can affect how you handle adversity & your own moral compass helps guide your choices in life. Nature & nurture are both just as important in shaping who you are as a person 👍 Speaking of compass- how does a person look like a compass??? 😆

The wedding scene between Shangguan He & Yi Ting was so sweet and the transition to YM helping NH dress was so good. I don’t know why but YM helping NH was so intimate to me. And holding hands to walk to the balcony 💕 ahhhh! They are so adorable

Yeah- don’t waste ur time on the Princess Gambit. That was a bad show. Even FF it didn’t help 🤦‍♀️

♾️/100!!! This unserious drama was able to make me feel so many emotions, especially those last few episodes. WOW! And the last episode with everyone playing a part in protecting Dajing- cheesy AF but I ate it up!! Those random dogs & itching powder & big bombs ! And the western movie bgm? The flashback of the friendship when they were kids? Just amazing all around ! This is how you end a show - not just giving us a happy ending but also satisfying ending where all the major/minor characters we’ve watched for 40 episodes received their own ending. This is def going in my top 5 drama list.

I am #1 defender of SYM. I really like her chaotic energy & I think every decision she makes might not be a popular choice but it’s the most logical choice for her with all the info she has. She’s just a normal modern gal looking out for her safety & her family’s so it’s frustrating that it’s taking her so long to trust NH but I’m really okay with it. It doesn’t bother me.

On another note, the emperor is still on s*** list BUT I’ve been enjoying his & NH’s awkward (and kinda sad) interactions. I like that NH keeps addressing him as “your majesty” even though the emperor really wants him to call him father. He’s going to have die for NH to get any sympathy from me !
