I’m disappointed in the 8.2 rating on MDL and even more disheartened by the Douban rating of 4.8 but to each their own! I am really enjoying this show a lot because of the relationship between ML & FL. It’s just a sweet & easy kinda love where they are supportive of each other w/out being cringey or toxic (Shuang & Jin An). I love how the ML is the unserious & silly househusband while the FL is the one with a steady job!! Does Jin An currently have any ambitions beyond being a stay-at-home husband & occasional killing machine? Nope. And I’m fine w/it cuz we’ve seen plenty of FL that just want to have their happy ending w/their man & nothing more. Is it hypocritical of me to hate that type of FL but be ok w/Jin An? Absolutely because we don’t see too many of those types of ML. I’m happy that Cheng Lai doesn’t have too big of an ego to play Jin A who is not always the cool & calm ML that we’re so used to….

I love how FL is portrayed as a bad ass general w/out losing her femininity. Oftentimes writers/director equate strong FL characters w/masculine tendencies. I also love how they make FL smart & capable w/out diminishing the intelligence and capabilities of the ML orher subordinates. They strategize together & she listens to the counsel. It’s more believable to me. I also love her outfits!

And Cheng Lei has elite side-eye/looking back look. So elite that the bad guy recognized him because of it 😂

Song Yi as a general is believable even if she is petite. I like her demeanor & I’m glad her military camp is not loosey-goosey like some other military camps (**ahem**) 😂

It’s like ADWAD where NH is always flying to save YM! 😂

I enjoyed this random unhinged & toxic show so much that I invested $1.99 on MangoTV subscription. I know viewers will prob be turned-off by the chokeholds & slaps FL received but I appreciated that she gave it back also. I love FL here cuz she DGAF and was the walking embodiment of “I gotta put me first” and I loved it for her lol. The ML was kinda hot and wore his outfit/cloak well. I think this worked because it was a short drama - I wouldn’t have enjoyed otherwise.

I think it’s because of the romance cuz it def ain’t the plot lol. The more appropriate title for this drama should be “Romancing the Female General.” Everything that happens on the show is to further move the romance plot along so if you’re able accept that, then the sizzling romance is def not a bad watch.

lol. There’s a middle ground somewhere. I think it’s okay to occasionally enjoy mindless media as long as it doesn’t consume your existence. As an adult, I can be dazzled by the shiny beauty of it all, agree that many things are actually garbage, but also enjoy learning & finding ways to improve myself as a human bean.

I think it’s a suggestion for those who are having a hard time reconciling their expectations with the actual drama. It does hurt the brain when logic goes out the window . You have a few choices: continue to watch it & complain about the sus logic, turn off your brain & enjoy the drama, or drop it. Lol

I didn’t read the novel so my opinions are based on the drama. I did assume that it would be more about her journey to being a general so more military & war storyline . So far it’s just romance & focused on their relationship so I had to readjust my expectations

I agree! That speech she made was preachy & not addressed to the right audience because during that time women didn’t have autonomy. Men still made life choices. I remember in Blossom FL discussed the importance of appreciating the jobs women did in the household & why it’s important to do so while also discussing that it shouldn’t be limited to it. Strong FL does not mean fighting skills or being a tactician only. Strong women can also navigate household drama & book keeping & bring kind & strong emotionally . Femininity is not a weakness

She ran away from home because of the marriage & staying at military camp to be safe & plot 👍

I think ML oozes sex appeal- his stares alone can ignite a freaking forest fire 🔥Every time he’s looking at FL I blush & squeal like a darn school girl even though I’m a grown- ass woman LOL. Bai Xu is a cutie but doesn’t have the screen presence that ML has so I think they cast the right person for the role. But that’s just my opinion.

This show is tropes galore but so enjoyable! I love how some of the scenes & acting & music are so dramatic at times but it’s such an entertaining unserious show! It needs to be rated higher!

I too am disappointed in its potential & do mourn what it could’ve been but here we are…

I’ve said this before after the first few episodes that I’m going to lower my expectations, turn off my brain, enjoy the romance! But at this point my brain has been so turned off that I’m practically brain dead. I’ve suspended so much belief that I’ve stumbled into Labubus Land 😳 BUT I’m going to continue because I need a good distraction from whatever the heck is happening in the US of A. I’m going to stay in delulu land in which a low rank soldier can talk to their commander like they’re buddies & no other soldiers question said low rank soldier’s transfer to a private room or why the same soldier is not doing any military drills lol

Lolzzz. The expectation is hella low but at least it’s full of pretty people falling in love under the moonlight. Imma sip on my coffee, turn off my brain, and let my silly little heart flutter at all the slo-mo turns, accidental fall & catch, and extra-long lingering stares! Happy drama watching lol

You knooooooow……once i suspended belief about her fighting wars and becoming a general with a mask w/out being exposed and then pretending to be a man to join the army w/out being caught, I realized that it’s not going to be that serious so 🙈🙉🙊 That’s how I cope!

You make some valid points. I haven’t seen any trauma or PTSD from her years at war or her family’s betrayal - I wished they showed that more. However, I disagree with you that she isn’t seeking revenge or retribution for the past wrongs. Her main reason for joining the army is to rise in ranks because she knows that’s the only way for her to seek out justice. She’s pretty much a nobody with no connections - and she’s a woman. What options does she have but to try to win merits through her blood and sweat? Who is she supposed to discuss & plot her revenge with if she hasn’t made any friends or connections? As for her bubbly personality, we saw glimpses of it when she was at the academy - it didn’t just come out of nowhere. I think without the restraints of being the fake heir & always watching her back she is able to let loose & let her personality come out more. I do agree eith u regarding ML though - my boy just stands there and stares & scowls. If u watch this for the romance, I think u won’t be disappointed. But if u are looking for complex plot, I think you should lower your expectations.

Same! I love that she is hot tempered and quick to fight lol! She is very intelligent & kind hearted also! I love her interactions with the group. Anyone who says she’s not smart prob not paying attention or FF too much because what?? She’s def a bad-ass, especially during the most recent fight scenes.
