15 minutes into ep 16. I think us viewers are seeing DR because SH is the fl and will continue to be BUT we are…
It would have been nice if they could have used a different actress for a brief cut-in shot every time someone new sees her, so at least we could know what they think they're seeing. It wouldn't have cost that much extra.

OTOH, I wouldn't have expected them to go to the trouble of altering her face via makeup/prosthetics (too much to go thru for every scene) but they could have altered the way she walks (limp due to injuries & improper healing) and posture?

(Full disclosure, I'm watching this on KBS America, so I'm only on Ep 11 but watching un-subbed snippets on Kocowa).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this writer give us 2 Amnesia plots in YLAG? So, first amnesia @ Ep 16 seems par for the course?

I have to agree w. Inkling below, what else are they going to do with her at this point if her career has indeed been crushed? And as Slothful said below, using the same actress for all scenes post-surgery just ruins the effect. They could have done this better with still keeping the same actress as FL. I guess her facial reconstruction only gave her a perm and eyeglasses. She's the female equivalent of "Clark Kent".

One thing that struck me in Ep 16 is the actor that talks to the ML around the 5:50 mark...he ALWAYS seems to play a Doctor in every k-drama I've seen. He gets no credit here (yet), but I guess he's not a medical professional here?

I don't know why everyone blaming mom. Dora is an adult and far from victim. She is responsible for every decision…
It's interesting that the title on the International Feed is "Beauty & The Devoted" I've also seen it referred to as "Beauty & Mr. Reliable". Both of which I think is more accurate.

This is such a good series, I'm amazed.

Just finished Ep 31 (61 & 62/100). The writers have balanced the stories between the couples so well (Mom/Dad, Doctors, Sadoons, GaHee/HyoShin, older Bro/exwife) it's commendable, especially compared to the last few weekend series we've gotten lately. Of course, I said the same about It's Beautiful Now and they screwed that one up after Ep 37, so there's still time.

I find it odd that there is so much hate for GyuJin on the Disqus boards back when this was first aired. I'm assuming that most of those members were women who simply can't understand him. He's used to a dominating female role in his life (his Mom & then NaHee) and has characteristically hidden or denied his own feelings and opinions and just been subservient to his women. It's why he can't express himself to NH and why he simply acceded to her request for a divorce. He gave her what she wanted, without even considering his own feelings. Once she lost the baby (due to her own stubbornness and ignoring his pleas to take it easy), he shut down because he would have been fearful of saying anything wrong, plus he probably didn't have any idea of what to say. So, at the end of 62, we are presented with a microcosm of this, and a somewhat cliche scene: the leads encounter each other while trying to connect. Except that this scene was saved by incredible acting by the leads...it was beautifully done. And true to form, GJ struggles to express his feelings to her to not leave, even apologizing before asking her to not go. Their embrace (complete with her hesitant initial steps before breaking out into a race to his arms) was so sweet and touching.

Do they have issues to overcome before they can reconcile? Yes, in spades. But it's not all on him: their communication problems are mutual but can be dealt with. He needs to overcome his reluctance to express himself to her and she needs to listen to her husband and come down to his level. Only then can he deal with his mother and put her in her place. (I won't get into my issues with NH at this point).

I'm looking forward to how they go from here, fingers crossed they can keep it up til the end. (Oh, and I do FF thru the annoying "friend" of the Kimbap lady)

I am really liking this so far - not understanding the negative comments but to each his own. I like how she keeps…
I am watching this at "arms-length" on KBS America, which just aired eps 5-6 this weekend. Not really interested in any other characters other than the leads, as everyone else is typically awful (tho the aunt and FL older-brother are kind of funny). Not really going to get too invested in this, so lots of FF here until the series ends and I'll look at everyone's reviews before trying to watch the whole thing.

Well, I've made it thru 28/100. Some observations:

OkBoon - It amazes me to see this actress reprise this same character in The Real Has Come. She really has the toxic/annoying MIL role down to perfection.

Dentist/ML Brother - this actor is so good. He was terrific in Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and plays many 2MLs. Has he ever gotten a lead role?

NaHee/GyuJin - the discussion board on Disqus for this show on Dramacoool is 4 years old, obviously, but it's really interesting to see what a polarizing character she is/they are. My .02- She is a really complex character, and unusual to see in a weekend drama. Her standoffish character (cold, snobby, indifferent) can be attributed to various things, but to me this is her armor. She is a very private person, who cannot let others see her pain and discomfort in her life. And she has to be "perfect" so others can't see any weakness or failure on her part that would make her vulnerable. So she hides behind this persona as her personal armor to protect her. It's clear that she was the smartest of the kids and her parent's pride...and she probably held that over her two older siblings, based on her older brother's reactions towards her when they first learned of the divorce and it was payback/indignation time for him. I hope she did listen to his heartfelt advice: seek and heed the input of others before making unilateral decisions. It was her failure to do this that resulted in the miscarriage that was the trigger event in the destruction of their marriage. She refused to listen to her husband pleas to take things easy and stubbornly let her own selfish desire to do things her way that probably resulted in the loss of the baby. Their inability to cope with that tragedy because neither is a good communicator and her tendency to crawl back into her shell doomed their relationship. He, on the other hand, was too weak to his domineering mother and failed to protect his wife. He was also clueless to WHY NaHee behaves as she does. But his nagging/neat freak/germphobic ways are not grounds for irreconcilable differences: her behavior, almost isolated or robot-like in their affairs at home would trigger even more 'nagging' from him because he knew of no other way to get thru to her. In the end, he realized that there was nothing he could do to please her and that divorce seemed logical.

Oh well, thoughts on something four years old.

This wasn't a bad series. I find it interesting that everyone has so many differing opinions of it, however. Cliche-ridden? Yup, it's a rom-com (ish) series, what do you expect? It's why I watch them. I'm not sure about the re-watch value, but for 36 episodes, it was worth watching.
But this left me with a lot of questions as well, especially with the final episode. So I'll leave that in the review section.

Up to 11 & 12 today. This is much better, now they are in a groove.

The profundity here comes when you realize they addressed the issues of loneliness and isolation and its affects on someone, well before the pandemic & accompanying lockdowns that isolated and stunted societal development for many. To me, that was the most important part of the series.

Just got done. It was such a cute drama. The actors were also superb!
I really wish they'd reconsider re-releasing it for broadcast...given the rise of interest in AI & Robotics, this series is still relevant, even more so than when it was first released. It really deserves the attention it didn't get initially.

OK, that works for me too. Just finished 5, will watch 6 tonight. Now that they've destroyed everyone's life, now I guess they can start rebuilding things with a bit more fun.
One thing I found odd: The doctor lady has her Mom labelled in her iphone contact list with her full legal name. That's really weird - Not "Mom", "Mother" etc....but the full name.

so how did you like the first ep?
Takeaways: I get the feeling that the point of the story is that all the kids eventually get divorced and move back in with their parents (so far, all the kids, except for the lady doctor, and that marriage looks shaky at best).
Also, too many instances of talking one's mouth full, which gave me flashbacks to getting yelled at as a kid when I would do that at home (two things were absolutely not allowed at the dinner table - talking with your mouth full and singing - go figure).

So it's not what I was expecting (and it actually has a break in between Eps 1 & 2). But they're setting up the story, so let's see what happens - I don't want to make any decisions based on these opening eps.

so how did you like the first ep?
I watched half at lunchtime, will see the 2nd half with dinner. My first impressions were 1) Another Chicken Fryer?!?! and 2) The Mom is the actress from TRHC (I know, she was in YLAG, and I'm sure other shows I haven't seen). I don't recognize anyone else yet.
I'll be using the spoiler tag with this one a lot, as I feel like a guest in this forum.

Wait a minute. I just skimmed thru the first eps....
This show is like a mash-up between Bravo My Life and The Love in Your Eyes!

MiRinAe and her adopted dad together from TLIYE. (KID! Your name is MiRinae!!!!!)

And from BML, DongHee's Aunt, Ms. Beak's Nosy Mom, and the Chairman of InHa fashion are all back, and he's a doctor?!?

My head is spinning. I'll check back in 60 episodes, I don't think I can handle this one, LOL.

No, I wouldn't bother watching the last few eps of IBN. See my review of it, posted here as a spoiler. Watch up to ep 37 and enjoy. They bungled the end of the series really badly.

36 out of 50 ain't bad
This review is a little late in coming. In retrospect, this was better than any of the follow-on weekenders on KBS, so there's that. The show seemed to divide the fans along the lines of who shipped which couple: There was the youngest couple camp, the middle, and the oldest ("the dolts"). I was in the latter. SDM & OMS had terrific chemistry in this series and really played well off each other. She was center of the series for a good portion of it, as we heard her thoughts and fears in voice-over. Each of the couples had their time in the sun, and had their share of obstacles to overcome. I won't spoil it, there are some really terriific scenes for each, and as a whole family too, of the Lees with Mom, Dad and their three sons. The actors were great: Kim HyeOk seems to touch gold wherever she goes and is one of my favorite 'Mom' characters. YSY did his usual great job, his character didn't get much of a stretch until the latter part of the show. For me, the show stopped being interesting once they refocused the show on Park JiYoung, and it became essentially a star-vehicle for her. I think this was per-ordained as why would such an accomplished actress be in this family drama, especially as a background character in the first 2/3rds? Oh well, once that arc began, around Ep 37, the show falls apart. The final episode couldn't even give us a full wind-down because the first half of it was STILL about her. So, the wrap-up was hastily done and poorly so.

This could have been a GREAT series, had they stuck to the original story arcs and used the last 10 or so episodes on bringing each couple to a logical conclusion. But, unfortunately not. Watch up to 36, and if you're curious, skip to 50, but really, you don't need to as it doesn't give much closure. At one time, I wished for a follow-up (season 2) to the series, or even a spinoff of how the oldest couple's life turned out, focusing on the challenges an older couple face. But I'm not sure if the writers could pull it off. Better to leave this one be, and just appreciate the first 2/3s.
