Long rambling post ahead, be advised...........

I'm so confused with this show now, I honestly don't know how to approach it anymore. I know we should just mentally reset back to Ep 31/32, but that's easier said than done. What’s the point of analyzing a show that makes no sense? I still feel that by doing that, I’m somehow enabling bad scripts and making excuses for incompetent work by the writer(s). And I hate doing that. We all deserve better.

So I’m having a rummage sale in my brain and tossing out the last odd thoughts that have been lingering around. I’m just going to sit back and (try to) watch with bemused interest on how they are going to resolve everything. Getting emotionally involved in something that is illogical, is frankly, illogical.

So I present to you, three items sitting on a card table in driveway of my mind. (how we do rummage sales here in California):

TK- I normally defer to BT’s exhaustive analysis of him (plus I don’t want to piss her off – LOL). He is such an interesting character, who still strikes me as a bit of a sociopath. Honestly, he comes across as sort of a weirdo, disagreeable sort. His antisocial behavior is well-excused by the abuse he’s been constantly subjected to in his 20 (or 16, whichever you believe) years of living with the Gong’s. Plus, who knows what was going on in his life before then? He simply had given up caring about anything, thus why it was relatively easy to just apologize to JH at that tea ceremony – he could care less who it pleased, or that it might be humiliating, it was just an onerous chore to just get it over with and leave. All these things that are important to others are irrelevant to him, and his solution to life was to live in a thick shell to keep everyone out. I mean, let’s face it, the guy’s ‘hobby’ was to stare at a wall and contemplate life. He was happy to live away from them in his own place and simply be left alone. He can’t form meaningful relationships with women and his co-workers have accepted his icy demeanor. Then along comes YD, and she cracks his shell open and now cautiously emerges a TK willing to accept others into his life, as long as no one tries to place themselves between him and YD/ HN. This is why her leaving him made me so mad. She dragged him out of his shell and left him to fend for himself. I still have a hard time trusting her character, even half as much as he does.

DW- OK, I’ll take some heat for this. First off, he’s a dummy, so that explains a lot. And he fears BN (as in “terrified”) and blindly follows her orders because of this, including the inexcusable taking-HN-from-her-crib. One thing that most folks hate about him was his initial urging for YD to abort the twins. Which brings me to my point, I can actually understand this, only in these terms: I believe BN put him thru a living hell when he brought baby SK home. Given what we’ve seen with BN’s behavior with YD, would you expect any different? I think, as her brother who went thru a similar situation, he was trying to protect her and give her the benefit of his experiences. “Get an abortion so you don’t have to go thru what I did…Mom will drive you insane - you won't be able to handle it!” is the line he should have said way back then. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a dummy who wasted a lot of his life in a drunken stupor in bars at night, instead of being home to help his uncle raise his daughter. But I think, in that one instance, he was trying (in the only way he knew how) to help his sister and protect her future.

YM – This is my last attempt to explain/understand her. The minute I saw how shocked she was to see YD, something clicked. The only explanation that fits her part in this couple’s complete ignorance of what is surrounding them, is that she’s been ostracized from her family because of her ties to InOk and her older siblings fear of anything they say within her earshot getting back to InOk. Thus I have to believe the siblings tell her NOTHING and all she knows is from what InOk or her father tells her. We rarely see her interacting with her siblings anyway – she’s been the odd man out ever since she returned from the US (remember she only came back for Spring Break – she was supposed to return to school to complete her PhD). And when she does interact, it’s usually in a group and not in positive terms. (I don’t think we’ve EVER seen her have a private conversation with any of her siblings, other than TK.) The latest instance was when she chastised her siblings for not being able to manage a house without ‘their’ Mom. The divide between her and the rest of her peers can be for many reasons – the age gap between them; their Mother died giving birth to her, thus blaming YM on some level; her attachment to InOk; her closeness with TK. Such a scenario is the only way I can figure that she can be surprised to see YD in the house, and with a child no less. All she knows is in general terms of what’s happening with her family over the last year and I use ‘general’ in the vaguest sense because obviously NO ONE will even talk about YD. That doesn’t excuse the both of them not managing to figure out there’s a LOT of coincidences happening to them, but that’s the stupid plot they have dragged us into. All that is on the writers for figuring we are OK with two people being that oblivious.

Please writers, let's move on and finish off this series on a high note.

Funny, I had actually composed something on DW, YM, and TK, but with the anti-long post comments here lately, I shelved it.

I like it, but wouldn't he have seen her pic on the food boxes?
I kind of laugh when I read comments on MDL from people asking in disbelief if a weekend series is really 50 episodes long?! In the glory days of the historical dramas, those weekend series were 100+ episodes long (50 mins each) - heck, Emperor Wang Gung was 200 episodes (a full year's commitment).

Yes, nothing to see here.. All is well, we are invited to the wedding reception at the chicken restaurant.Since…
I'm more surprised the older siblings are not there, at least in the scene we saw. I figured it would take wild horses to keep SooJeong from there.

I know, and it seems incredible to me, that they are going to run out of time to do that storyline justice, given that they wasted 50 episodes earlier. They MUST have done a storyboard/outline that allowed for this???? As interesting and compelling that it would be, I'd sacrifice it for some wedding & family scenes with the 3 of them, and a timeskip with MR & a babybump (at least). I also want the DH/Ding wedding too.

That guy has a LOT to atone for.

yeah i cant handle her being all gaga over JH like she was that guy from the interview.
You've got me. All I know is that they have such a deep meaning to them (way beyond our culture) yet the writers are handing them out right and left now.
Frankly, I am so suspicious of him, and feel sorry for YJ's character that I don't like this pairing, although they do make a cute couple, at least appearance-wise.

I do like the drama of the concept. I'm still trying to figure out how they are going to pace the balance of the show. They have 2 major bridges to cross: Getting family approval to marry from both sides and then dealing with SJ. With about a month left, things are going to have to keep moving rapidly, unless they really do write her out, which still really seems improbable at this point. I am really curious how they are going to work her coming back into the story: it could be really good, or really bad - I don't see a middle ground.

Since I've been fooled one too many times by the previews I now treat them as just plain deceitful. If that really is a wedding reception, I wonder why the other Gong siblings were missing?

All the best for your interview
Interviews are important. This show is not. Good Luck on your interview!!!

So I guess we pretend the whole Crazy InOk arc never happened then? And just move on? I don't know how else to process such a massive change back and forth in character behaviour. "Just move along, folks, nothing to see here"

She needs a job! Plus, whomever her stylist is should be fired. between that awful hairdo and those clothes, ugh.
She's really pretty (see her pic above on the promo) but that hairstyle makes her head look wide, to me.

I wanted to like this episode, but TOO MUCH SOO JI. By reflex, I FF every time I see her on screen now. Best thing about this one, was SD's finding out the love of his life knocked boots with DH the other night and how they are over the moon now. I thought they'd all burst out laughing when he threw the baguette at them, LOL.

Oh, and KS, My Man, if you're trying to keep the relationship on the QT, don't go carrying around One Red Rose in a clear wrapper. Don't they have brown paper bags in Seoul??? He looked pretty good in those nurses shoes, though.

They've redeemed his character so much, now the sidepiece is kinda academic.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around JH + YJ. And again with the hankies! What is it with this cast???
