It's 5am here, and the only thing good about being awake now is that I can open up the house for the cool pre-dawn air. Forgive my bleary-eyed typing as I sit here blinded by the monitor's glare...I wanted to get this down while it's fresh in my mind. I can't wait for this series to end.
Ep35 - An Affair to Forget
The 1000 monkeys at their 1000 typewriters have given us a pile of disjointed garbage to follow on to last weekend's disaster. The show is now more of a series of vignettes for each couple, with little crossover of characters between them (SJ, Granny are the exceptions). Oh, they did do a nice job in altering some of the cast's appearance to make it appear a year has passed by. So, here's how I see it:
TK/YD - If this was to be AJH's comeback series to show he still be a force as an actor, he's passed the test with flying colors. TK is the only relatable character here and his ability to portray a range of emotions without saying a word is impressive if not amazing. After she initially leaves post-diaper changing his shock -> confusion -> anger at wasting a year of his life carrying the torch for her was exactly what I wanted to see. And I appreciated his somewhat-distanced caring for Haneul while he was babysitting - we didn't have to witness him acting like the loving father he was supposed to be. His caution was appreciated. We had to wait about 3/4 of the show in, for him to finally get his chance to tell her off so she can try to understand the harm she's done. I can't tell if it sinks in or not, as she is cold beyond belief, at least she admits that she only thought of herself/Real. This from the woman he reminds her vowed to stay by his side forever. Nothing further to be said here, it's been well covered already in the comments below. She failed to redeem herself, IMO. Give her up TK. She never really loved you, or understands what love is.
HEE - who cares? Even your kid knows you're a pathological liar. And FWIW, why is that kid in the hospital? Another failure by the production staff to show us some physical manifestation of something we're to believe in (like the lack of belly on a pregnant woman). We are just to believe this child is chronically sick, because they said so. At least put him in a wheelchair, have him carry an IV bag, SOMETHING.
CM/SJ - The only kind person in that house (isn't that something?), SJ still cares for YD, and has sublimated her desire for children by reaching out to hospitalized kids. She's the link between YD/TK and Granny.
HW/JM - She's back to her old, cold ways. The workaholic mom and her inability to connect with her child and husband is on full display. Calling Pharmacist Han!!! Get her to the bullpen to warm up. I have a feeling she and Aerum will return.
DW/YM - The most isolated couple of all and this must be if we are to believe that they have no idea of how what's happening with their families affects them. So DW finally gets a job, Yay! YM is as sexually-frustrated as ever, too. And as I predicted weeks ago, it looks like SK's mom finally appears (this was foreshadowed way back when SK told YM she knew her Dad was lying about her mom being dead). There's only one reason why his cold-hearted/rude woman is here: She'll shakedown the couple for some Gong $$$ to back away, once she finds out YM's interest in SK &DW is more than YouTube related. And I'll toss out some WILD SPECULATION - Remember how YM ( A doctoral candidate who doesn't believe in birth control [SMH]) kept dodging bullets in her EPTs with Jay? I'll call it - she's another infertile Gong! Thus making her desire to be a mom to SK even more pronounced and the need to pay off SK's mom more important. Remember, they showed us all these things for a reason: connect the dots. (Maybe I should change my handle to "LA CONSPIRACY THEORIST"?)
InOk- Still in denial that she was in love with YD, she has yet to realize that her spurned love has destroyed her son. At last she is beginning to admit it's all about her. I should feel sorry for her, but they've made her so contemptible it's impossible.
Well, that's it. The predawn gloom is giving way to sunrise and a pleasant breeze is coming in thru the office window here at home. I've vented my spleen, I guess. I'm sure I'm forgetting something but that's all I can think of for now. Ep35 was a missed opportunity, save for the very last scene with Granny. Will she lay the foundation for a reunion of our main couple? Hope springs eternal, but with a writing staff this hopeless, only the most ardent believer can remain optimistic.
It's funny.......This review is obsolete even before I press POST, as 36 has already been broadcast. But posterity must be served, I guess.
Have a good morning everyone. I'm going back to bed.
Turned off Cell Phone? Check Bottle of Belvedere? Check. Pint of Ice Cream? Check Tranquilizers? Check OK, I'm ready to watch Ep 35. Here goes nothing.......
Does anybody know whether they've finished filming this series? Wondering if it's still possible for storyline…
Our only hope is that the domestic audience (the only demographic KBS and the sponsors care about) rises up and sends a clear message this needs fixing NOW or else watch your ratings plummet. All we can do is watch and wait.
Just when I thought I couldn't dislike YD any more. That comment about "someone else's baby" hit hard and I'm…
OK, DW may have kept it quiet because he was embarrassed. But she spends quality & quantity time with SK. They're asking us to believe that kid did not tell YM about what was going on with her family? PULLLLEAZE
I'll watched the subbed version tonight (certainly don't want to watch KBS America's broadcast of Ep 33). That being said, based on the YT clip:
TK, so when faced with a stressful situation when your Granny arrives, what do you do? LIE about YD and what's in the next room? How'd lying to your family work out the last time??? You dummy! So now you have to explain the situation to her and pray she believes you this time!
And we're supposed to believe this guy is in the top 1% of SAT scores in SK? Sheesh!
Who would have thought that this show would be my safe refuge from THRC's stupidity?
I saw your comments re:YM/DW (totally agree) and on binging after it's done. I am beginning to agree. If they don't make some sense by the end of tomorrows ep, I may do the same. I won't watch it til tonight, I can tell I'll already be disappointed.
So just FWIW, KBS America last night aired the episode where the tipster tells them she's dead, hands over the wallet, etc, they all wail, you know the drill. What was REALLY interesting is that they cut out the ENTIRE funeral scene. How weird is that?
I was the same way, I couldn't stand her. But they've mellowed her out some. If you pick up the series about ep 70, it starts to get good. I think 83 is the current episode.

Plus, I'm really stupid, that helps a lot.
