What I missed was if they said WHEN the river incident occurred? How many years ago was it?
I thought about that ballerina pic too, but I think it's just her idealized image of what her life should have been. Plus, I'd guess she used it deliberately to catch someone in the family's eye so there would be no doubt it was her. She really thought this thru.

I would hope for KS sake that her will said she did go abroad and failed to find fame, and returned to Korea and took her life, so at least he wouldn't think he wasted 10 years for nothing. But I didn't see a date on the will during our glimpses of it.

Nice touch with that pic of them from years ago. KBS does those little details pretty well.

Well, this show needed a kick in the pants and let's hope this is the episode that delivered it! So, now the fun begins and we can speculate how SJ is returned to the family. I'll start with 2 scenarios:

1 (the smart money bets on this) - Sometime in the "future", she is turned in by someone who knows her and happens across an old box with the pic on it (by now the campaign has moved on and someone else's picture on the cartons). They notify the call center, who is suspicious despite the caller's pleading. Said caller provides a current pic of SJ, the family goes to the cops, and we're off and running as she's brought in front of them and must confess her sins.

2 (more fun, but cliche) - A couple is meeting with a doctor in his office. We don't see their faces, the perspective is from behind their backs, looking at the doctor. He tells them their child has some kind of disease that is getting aggressive and their efforts to find a marrow/organ donor have been fruitless so far. They are running out time for a transplant....if only there was a sibling to be a donor.....At that point, perspective changes and the mother is SunJu and a terrible feeling of dread comes over her face. And then we're off to the races, as she must then go to her family to have JanDi tested to be a donor.

Look, I’m sure the police handle suicides, & when the victim has left behind a will & their wallet to identify…
If I understand "the story" correctly, the old lady watched her wade into the river, grabbed her purse and took off before seeing SJ go under. She tossed the 'evidence' save for the wallet, and took the cash (and credit cards?) but kept it for ???? reason. It sat undisturbed until the daughter saw the pic, turned it over to KS. So, the cops never knew about it and didn't have an unclaimed body to process. At least that was SJ's cover story she concocted.

Well, the wallet was fairly large and we never saw the rest of the contents of it, so I'll give them that. If she's faking her own death, then she'd have put everything in there she could, and it would be suspicious if her vital IDs were missing. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they went to the cops to report it (to the case detective) and there was a time skip before the funeral happened. It was interesting to note that the river was running wide and fast in the flashback (spring?) and was down considerably now.

The words he said was worse than i thought.
Yes, and she even said that as a kid, she was called "ding dong"

Since long ago, i wanted MR to move out of the house temporarily and move into like a rooftop apartment or something…
I think that's bound to happen now. This will alienate the chairman now, until he finds out the Dong Truth. It will put Aunty Dong in a tough position though.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. This whole career excuse was so she could start a new life with another man, who probably didn't want to be a step-dad too. It makes sense. They found someone they could pay-off to act as a handy witness and told them to just wait if anyone ever comes asking.

I really despise Sun Ju.
I'm shocked we get a shot of her in motion. Is it just me, or is she still a dead-ringer for the accident victim???? I need to find that episode and re-watch it. Was that actress even given a screen credit?

Nice job of cutting your own throat, Little Dong. You Dummy! How clueless is that guy?

I think we were robbed of the obligatory shot of her mangled feet walking into the water.

I didn't catch the same bag/clothes she left with. So, she planned the fake suicide all along as an insurance policy if anyone came looking for her? Did she really leave to go abroad, or did she find another man she actually fell in love with and just used the whole career thing as an excuse because she didn't have the guts to divorce KS and leave her kid behind? This was pretty well planned then, since the only belonging that was 'left behind' was the wallet, which couldn't be placed in the time-line.

Now Jandi wants KS to find someone for himself
You can take that one to the bank. It will be fun to speculate just how that happens.

Title Apple of My Eye Spoiler
Gosh, actually a meaningful episode (despite the fact we know she's not really dead) and surprisingly fast-paced.

The funeral scene was the best one in the entire series, I think. Well shot & scripted. But I wish, instead of his speech at the end, he had just stopped after he wished he hadn't looked for her and flung the flower into the river. I think that would have been more powerful. I did like his Dad comforting him and the MIL. Next week looks pretty eventful too, for DH/MR, let's hope.

And I guess the "will" was actually a suicide note? She planned this out pretty well, even using old-looking paper for the will, but wouldn't the lack of a body be a big red-flag? Will be interesting to see if there is a followup with the detective assigned to the case. And of course, she's still out there and so is her picture on countless boxes, so there has to be more calls to the call center, right?

But Grandpa telling MR to marry just before she tells her mom why they're breaking up? Sheeesh, the melodrama!

I was just going to say sounds like Sun Ju is her mother’s mini-me. Sister in Canada basically said SJ doesn’t…
I was really kind of hoping that his character would be developed and he was brought in, so that on his first day of work there, he'd be surprised that YJ wasn't there too and would do some digging into why she was not hired (and eventually this would lead us to SJ, in hiding and working at that Cosmetic firm).

The writing on this show is so pointless - to bring him in and give him airtime to accomplish absolutely nothing. GRRRRR
Replying to Sher1264 Jul 14, 2023
We are back on a treadmill. Because now it will be a while before Sun Ju actually shows up because KS and MR will…
This whole deal about a will is so odd. If she was ill enough to have made out her will, knowing that she would die, then her death would have been attended to by medical personnel who would have pronounced her and filed the Death Cert. Or, if in an accident, this would be done by an LEO or paramedic (at least that's how it is here in Calif). So the will is meaningless since they've never found a DC for her, UNLESS it's because she was using a fake name. This smells of phony drama to keep us going. When they said this woman had her "belonging" I pictured a box of SJ's possessions that could unmistakenly be verified as SJs by KS or family.

I'm sitting here scratching my head after watching 77 on K o c o w a . So that woman has a 'will'. Uh, BFD. I've…
I'll give the writers some credit here: It was a really nice touch to put the age-enhanced picture of her on the carton. We really should have had a scene where a woman (seen from the back) picks up the carton and recoils in horror, dropping it and running out of the store.

Unless he's the guy she's been seeing on the side that she's keeping under wraps, and not HoSik?
