Yeondoo and Taekyung would be step cousins not siblings. They don't share the same (adoptive) father after all.…
You're correct. In IBN, this subplot was the beginning of the end of the series (for me at least). IIRC, in a nutshell, IF BongNim IS strawberry, and IF she is added to the family register as Grannys daughter, then TK/YD become first cousins legally as they share a common Grandmother. Their only recourse would be to have TK be removed from the register (easier because he's adopted), then they could marry. Even though they are not biologically related, the law sees them as such. The same would hold true for DW/YM. But I don't think they have the recourse for either of them to be removed from the register as they are in the family bloodline. Maybe someone can correct me on that one.
Just commented elsewhere but will put it here too. My question is why they believe putting up a missing person…
Your first sentence is EXACTLY how I feel. She is in HIDING from them! I don't think KS can accept that, and it's easier for him to think she's dead. I wouldn't be surprised if she has a new family and life, as has been speculated here. That might be the shove JD needs to give up on her mom and let KS move forward with MR.
Wait, if KBN is Strawberry then where does Uncle fit it? His parents adopted KBN?
Take those ages with a grain of salt: They show YM as 26, but she clearly told SK in the playground "I got a new mom when I was 10" And we know InOk married into the family 20 years ago. Thus, she's actually 30, which makes more sense for someone studying as a doctoral candidate.
Did you post your take-aways from this episode? I don't see them below.I was going to chip in on the InOk Explosion,…
Yeah, I'm tempted to draw conclusions from the previews, but my better judgement says "wait". I know why it upsets me, and I can make a pretty good argument for it, but we've been set up before only to be thrown a big curveball. My issue is with the writers anyways. I'll keep an eye out for your takes!
Translated the preview text of episode 33 by myself and this is the result (with reasoning as to why)
Did you post your take-aways from this episode? I don't see them below.
I was going to chip in on the InOk Explosion, as I disagree with some of your points, but realistically, we shouldn't draw too many conclusions from the previews. So I'm hesitant to say anything. I don't think this will get resolved in Ep 33, though and spill into 34 at least.
I about fell out of my chair when YM told DW that his looks were just her type (or something like that). Ya think?…
Well, speaking for guys, there is a 'type' we tend to be attracted to. Albeit, this is a bit too literal, LOL. I'm OK with it, because she has been totally honest with him from the beginning and he's fully aware (as 'fully aware' as he can be, that is) of what is going on. Remember her words "I hate being a Mom, but that's all I do with you and SK". I'm more intrigued by the fact she's 5 years older than him and was going for her doctorate.
She'd better wear the pants in the relationship because relying on him to call the shots makes as much sense as sailing your brand-new ocean liner into an iceberg field at night.
Well I was totes wrong about In Ok. Wow. Didn't see that coming. I'm hoping that the preview just shows what will…
What kills me is that we saw a glimpse of her temper in dealing with JM at first. But she was also dishing out some come-uppance to a disrespectful and arrogant step-daughter. YD is nothing like that and doesn't deserve what we saw in the previews. This tangent they are going on is so stupid, words fail me. And for InOk to go to BongMin's and tell her too???? No. That's too absurd. And now SHE's the one stressing out a pregnant woman and tossing her on the street? Really??? And all of this in front of those evil two????
Ep 32 - Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.........
What a weird episode! They make us feel sorry for and appreciate Granny while being angry at InOk? HUH?????
HITS: -YD tells off JH. Well this was coming, and this was done really well. YD really did look unwell, but she mustered the energy to put that delusional (sorry for stealing that adjective BT) clown in his place. Gee, and he thought he had so much going for him too! - YD/TK hug after he leaves - DW/YM have drinks??? Did I miss something? Why were they out on what sure looked like a date? And did he pass his interview? Their dialogue didn't clarify that, and where was SK? She promised her that they'd go out together and SK wouldn't get left behind. All's well that ends well, once DW's brain starts firing up and YM gets her man and unlike YD, she even gets to kiss him. Honestly, DW, this is one of the prettiest girls I've seen in a K-drama and he just gives her that vacant stare when she challenges him to start dating her. But our youngest couple at least gets to smooch! Next up for them - revealing who she's dating and then trying to figure out how they fit on the family tree. They DO make a cute couple, just don't rely on him for any split-second decisions. - CS kicks the can down the road and agrees to play along and follow InOk's lead in dealing with the truth about TK/YD. This scene was unexpected but makes sense for him to try to save face and not be seen as the bad guy. Feeling guilty, ChanSik? It was really InOk's problem to deal with in the first place, he should just support his wife in matters regarding his step-son. But we all knew that, didn't we? - JM/HW. So they'll give it a go. JM realizes that she will have to re-invent herself and the fear of this will bring her much pain (a 'rebirth' if you will) as she fights to save her marriage. Again, this scene in his office (and the preceding scene in her room with InOk) were really emotional, and a tough watch. I still feel sorry for the Pharmacist. - Carp Juice??? I googled it and all I came up with was some kind of fishing bait! - Welcome Home party. This was a bit saccharin for me but we now all see that thanks to YD there is harmony of some sort in the family. No back-biting, jealous stares, eye-rolling, etc.; which must be a first for the Gongs. -Can I get some Bibimbap? YD gives JM some hints on making this dish (and makes her a HUGE serving). Best line of the Episode: "Please stop torturing the eggs and let me take over." JM thanks her for her help over the last couple of days (her re-make in progress). My question: Did YD tell her the truth? Her last words to her teased that. - Get Lost, Granny! How many times did we wish that in the first half of this series? So today it happens, with our man TK finding her with an unthinkable embrace; our leads then learn of her sorrowful past. The Granny redemption arc is complete now, and that funny feeling you're getting is knowing that we're being set up for TK/YD to lead the effort to find Strawberry (once InOk calms down, that is). All sarcasm aside, this was one of the most important scenes of the series for the 3 of them and their mutual discomfort made it seem so realistic. KUDOS.
MISSES: - The cafe scene with InOk & Evil Inc. Nice try, honey. You got back-stabbed by your own partner in crime. - The fashion show. BLEAH. Nice try, honey 2.0. Yet another knife in your back - what, are we supposed to start liking JH????? - Hee. So, who exactly is she scamming? If she really does sell DS's sperm to them and collects a 'finders fee' (which is probably standard procedure anyways) she's not really scamming them (I think)? It's Uncle who is being betrayed because he will probably have no idea what is going on? Will she drug him? Do we really need this sub-plot???? NOOOOO - And finally InOk's behavior. I've already commented on it below so won't repeat it. What kills me is that this woman KNOWS they positive effect YD's had on her son and has commented on it repeatedly. Yet, she's infuriated? OK OK, this is technically part of Ep33, so I'll leave it at that.
BOTTOM LINE: With many characters trying to change their behavior this was tough to keep up with. I'm not worried about our leads (yet) and we had the joy of DW/YM's relationship blooming. Just don't screw up Ep 33!!!!
So glad you had a good time - rest and take care of the sunburn.
Take it easy and recover from your sunburns! I'm not going to watch the subbed til later today (housework + I'm irritated at the writers). I'll post comments later tonight or tomorrow morn (west coast US time). I do want to watch KTL, I like the chemistry of the leads, but not sure what platform to watch it on.
All I've seen are the unsubbed YouTube clips but it's pretty obvious what's going on, plus the comments here.
We got 37 good episodes out of IBN before it tanked, 3BS was never consistent enough to put together a string of good eps, and I was spared YLAG thanks to the commenters here. But it seems that we may have hit the wall at Ep 32 of THRC. I've admired the writing on this show and ignored the little things that didn't add up, but not this.
NO WAY, In Ok behaves this way! This is completely out of character for her as she's been written. Writers, GO BACK TO EP 10 and see how guilty she is for how her son has been treated by the family SHE married in to. Not just by his 'grandmother' but his step bro & sis. Does she have a right to be angry? Sure, but to go off the deep end as shown in the preview? Sorry, I'm not buying it. Her anger has to be in bounds of what she's put her son through by her choices.
I hope those previews are deceptive (we've seen it before) but it doesn't look good. It's obvious who TK would choose between his Mom and YD. And InOk MUST know that too.
If they felt the need to create melodrama, they could have made better choices.
What a disappointment. Fingers crossed this is immediately resolved.
