This is such a mature drama. I am at the halfway point and I am enjoying it so much and the way it slowly but surely develops the relationship between the leads. It is done in a steady, realistic and compelling manner. I don't understand why this drama is rated less than 8.5 here but it is so good and mature in many ways. I can't get enough. Definitely not a drama for those who can't appreciate character and plot building or slow burn dramas with depth to them. Certainly not a fluff piece, but it has its cute and funny moments. Hoping it doesn't disappoint in the ending.
I just had a good belly laugh reading your review. Now I can't decide whether to go ahead and watch this drama so I can experience this absolute despair you speak of or run away as fast as I can from this despite the pull of being able to watch Ren Jia Lun for 60 or so episodes. Decisions. Decisions.
Anyone else notice how quickly Bai Jue merged back with Qingmu after the battle against Wu Huan when he caught Qingmu staring at Shang Gu? I chuckled at that because he seemed to be jealous at a piece of himself. 😂 But I also wonder if he did that because he saw Shang Gu staring back at Qingmu and was afraid that if she saw the longing looks from Qingmu, she will realize Bai Jue's true feelings for her and that he has been pretending that he doesn't care about her anymore in order to keep her away.
Also, I adored Qingmu because he is a representation of just how deeply Bai Jue loves Shang Gu. Literally and figuratively. It is because of Bai Jue's love for Shang Gu that he split his original being to create Qingmu in the first place. And Qingmu allows us to see how an unrestrained Bai Jue, who isn't carrying around the weight of the 3 realms on his shoulders or the knowledge of the tribulation of chaos and what it meant for Shang Gu, would act in pursuing Shang Gu. We saw the love between Bai Jue and Shang Gu played out through Qingmu and Hou Chi.
I sincerely wish there is a part 2 for Ancient Love Poetry, because we were deprived of Bai Jue and Shang Gu finally getting together after everything was resolved and Bai Jue reappeared. I wanted to see how they reconnect after this and adjust with the knowledge of everything they now know. I didn't realize how much of an impact this drama would have on me until I finished it. Definitely in my top 5 of C-Dramas.
Same here, and the eps were elongated just too much. It could have also been 24 eps. Just to increase the time,…
I haven't read the novel. Was the novel better than the drama? Does it actual state that they are reincarnated in their modern life and do they remember their past life?
I am not sure of what exactly I was expecting from the sequel of the heart-wrenching and beautiful One and Only, but it wasn't this.
Forever and Ever is not bad by any means. I enjoyed the sweet, tender and the oftentimes awkwardness of the love story between Shi Yi and Zhousheng Chen, however, when compared to their past life in which the feelings between them was unspoken, yet so palatable that you can actually FEEL the intensity of their feelings for one another in One and Only, this sequel unfortunately fell short. I expected to watch this getting the sense that we were seeing the continuation of Shi Yi and Zhousheng Chen's life in modern times, but ultimately it felt like completely different characters who just happened to look and have the same name of the past incarnations and that's where all familiarity ended. The synopsis for this drama implies that Shi Yi remembers their past life but as the drama unfolds it seems actually unclear that she does.
While this drama was enjoyable enough, it fell below expectations unfortunately in terms of plotline and execution.
An underated drama that hurt my heart and left me with more questions than it answered.
Though the drama is titled Saimdang, the character that had the most emotional impact on me was Lee Gyeom. His love for Saimdang was unwavering, pure and unconditional. His pain in loving a woman he could not ever have due to the selfish and malicious action of another was heart-wrenching, and for that this drama haunts me because there was no satisfactory end especially for Lee Gyeom.
I wish that the ending of the drama had been better fleshed out and less ambiguous. So much was left unclear after such a compelling story between Saimdang and Lee Gyeom. I am left with more questions than were answered while my heart aches for the ill-fated love of Lee Gyeom and Saimdang.
Oh how can we feel so much the same. This is a comment as if you have extend a microphone to my thoughts (and…
You nailed it in that first sentence. And that is what appeals to me the most about this drama. That this is a drama with depth. It makes you think and it challenges you as a person. There are many lessons and nuggets to be gleaned and gained.
It is right up my alley. I love that the characters aren't all one-dimensional and prone to common drama tropes which can get old fast. You despise a character on moment and the next you can feel pity for them because you can understand their motivation for taking certain actions. It is a very human story in many ways and that's all part of what makes this compelling.
I believe that for one to truly connect with and enjoy this drama, there has to be a certain level of emotional intelligence present. You have to be someone who appreciates subtleties, and nuanced story lines.

Yes. The Snow Walk scene was an emotionally charged scene for all the reasons you described and the one that stands out the most.
I don't know if I have a personal favorite, because there are so many scenes. Maybe when I do a rewatch. However, the Snow Walk scene and the Bridge Jump scene are the ones I recall vividly. Not surprising, both scenes have to do with her dealing with the betrayal of someone she considered a friend . Someone who should be protecting/assisting her, and not trying to harm her. In this case it was Wei Shuyu. The look of shocked pain on her face when she saw he was amongst the people pursuing her and when he drew the arrow at her is still imprinted on my mind. Unfortunately, she didn't realize at the time he was actually granting her a small mercy and a chance for survival.
Many things happened in this drama, and I think that is part of the reason why it leaves such a deep impression. Because once I start reflecting, I am surprised by the sheer number of events and circumstances that transpired. The people that were encountered, the experiences that were had. This drama was so rich in storytelling sometimes it is easy to forget because SO much happened. Thinking on it again, I am beginning to feel withdrawal pangs once more. Gosh. It will be difficult to come across another drama like this.
You have just described what many of us have felt for months!! If you look at the comments number, it says 32k…
Yep. I can tell this drama is going to stay with me for a while. There are a lot of layers and dimensions to it. I think that is what makes it so impacting.
Now I am curious. What is the original relationship between Changge and Pusa aka King Mobei? Just finished watching…
Oh nice! That is a pretty significant bit of information to decide to change/leave out. Wonder why this would be a thing to not include. Makes more sense with this that she would then represent Mobei. A missed opportunity to have them interact more.
A compelling, well scripted and well acted drama in which every character delivered. Words cannot adequately express how moved I am by this drama. Just finished watching yesterday and already I miss all the main characters. Currently feeling bereft and like I want the journey of Li Changge and Ashile Sun to never end.
From production, to OST, to acting, action scenes, this drama knew the assignment and delivered it well. The character developments felt organic and was clear to see. The development of the main leads relationships was well done. At no point in time did I feel bored or frustrated with the drama.
Everything flowed as it should. These are some of the most authentic and multidimensional characters I have ever seen a historical drama. And right now I cannot stop basking in the after-effect of this drama that was brilliantly done.
I must say that I have a new found respect for Dilraba as an actress because she embodied Li Changge. As for Wu Lei he WAS Ashile Sun! During the first few episodes of the drama I was a bit concerned because he looked obviously young especially in Tang attire. However, as the drama progressed and we got to see him dressed more in grasslands attire and then in battle gear as Tegin! My oh my! He completely sold it in that role from looks, to characterization, speech, mannerism - everything! It is going to take a while for me to stop gushing over this drama. And now I am reluctant to even watch anything else after this masterpiece.
This question was probably answered somewhere in this chat, but I'm new here. Does anyone know why did they change…
Now I am curious. What is the original relationship between Changge and Pusa aka King Mobei? Just finished watching the drama a day ago and I must admit I was intrigued by Pusa and wished we got to see more of him and his interactions with Changge.
Chemistry between the main leads along with the sweet OST is what drives this drama. It is an entertaining and sweet love story and I am highly impressed by how effortlessly natural the relationship between the leads seemed.
"Jane The Virgin" is actually the remake of the Venezuelan original. If the Korean remake does away with Michael's character, that's already a plus. Got tired of the one note "Gary Sue" that he became from season 2 onwards.
I thought she was a young woman in her 20s! I need all her beauty regime.
