Personally, Joss was an average looking teenager. Confidence is one of the many qualities that makes a man attractive. And that takes time to build. He started going to the gym during his university years, he sometimes would skip some classes to go exercise. He also took side modeling jobs. It turned out it worked for him, tho he said it may not work for everybody. He has his diploma and that's what mattered to him at that time.
I think it willl turn out that the golden blood can turn vampires Back into humans. Seems to he heading that way…
It's more like the golden blood is a cure for "numbness". Vampires like Mark will still be vampires though with human-like senses and emotions. However, the thirst for blood will remain the same - despite of being able to taste, food won't satisfy their hunger.

Why would you think racionally when you are crazy in love whilst living in a world where vampires become human again by tasting a single drop of blood? Mark is acting like a teenager who doesn't know how to control his emotions, and that's totally valid.
Mark only thought there was "Keep Tong AWAY from Nakan". Guess where he took him? To Thara... the powerful vampire leader who told him to stay away from Tong yet to watch him from afar. Man couldn't even maintain it as a secret from Thara, take Tong to his dormitory or to his house. Mark couldn't even act sneakily, his actions are moved out of irrational love.
We can affirm Mark is as dumb as Tong, and it's (beautifully) valid.

In MGB universe those "vampire qualities" you referred are actually perceived as weaknesses (not having senses, not being able to feel or having emotions). Vampires here don't know the real power of Golden Blood, but if they knew they'd sure want to have a taste of it and break free from their "numbness" (there are exceptions for everything). Not only a single drop can make vampires feel human again, but more of it can make them significantly powerful, this last is the only thing vampires seem to know about.
A vampire gets weaker over the time the more they use their powers. This was already explained it the series.

It's more like Thara wanted Mark to stay away from Tong for a while fearing that he'd lose control over himself. In the end, she ordered to Mark to stay away from him, definitely. But Tong went to Mark's anyway. He already "lost control" over himself because he now has free will. Mark is no longer "numb". That was clear with the kiss Mark gave to Tong in form of declaration as he was sick, couldn't taste nor smell yet the feelings for Tong were still there.
Here a warning for all that haven't watched Ep.5 yet: Do not consume Food or any Liquids for the first 7ish Minutes…
