If Tong actually wanted to cover the portrait with the sheet he would've do it 🌚. By now we all know he has a crush on Mark. Covering its eyes was a way for Tong to keep on daydreaming about Mark when he was alone in his bedroom looking at his portrait, but still not felling exposed by doing that 😌.

Vampires can indeed dye. In the novel Mark was telling Tong how vampires can dye and this is actually possible if the heart is pierced or if the body is severely damaged.

Tong lived in the orphanage his whole life so he was 24h/24h under miss Nuan, Tonkla and the other kids's eyes - Mark's too but "mostly" from the people Tong lived with since Mark couldn't interact with him as much as possible. Tong has the curiosity of a kid, I mean like a countryside young-man who happened to be restrained of living a normal life. So he'll try to explore anything he wasn't able to. I meant both of them: emotions, - basic ones -(joy; sadness; anger; fear; disgust) and sensation wich includes emotions and the ability to taste and smell things other than blood. Maybe I mixed them up with my previous comment. Consider this example: a psych*p*th is deprived from emotions (joy; sadness; anger; fear; disgust) to be able to feel something - joy -they do extreme things that directly affect others and puts them in the position of power. Nakan is this kind of character and later on you'll find other characters similar to him. On the other hand, Mark has a life depth with Thara. She's the one who saved him from death and gave him the opportunity to live. Mark, to a certain extent, ( before metting Tong) wasn't moved by emotions but as I said, a life depth. He wasn't nothing but a emotionless, with no personal desires and needs servent.

I had to detach of the ideia that Gawin is playing as Tong and Joss as Mark. If you see the characters as individuals (and not as actors play them out) you'll immerse yourself in the series. But that's actually no easy task, it wasn't for me neither.
