Tonkla’s Death Wasn’t a Joke—It Was Love in Its Purest FormLet’s talk about that scene.Tonkla gets pierced…
Girl, TYSM for making me realise this! ❤️❤️❤️
On My Golden Blood May 17, 2025
NGL, Tonkla's death scene in ep. 9 didn't move me at all in the very first watch, instead I guiltily bursted out laughing, and I'm not even exaggerating. I can't get past that scene so here it goes: I didn't feel it as the scene made it look like it was supposed to be emotionally intense and heavily traumatic as it was intended to be. And one of the reasons for this is cause of Neo's acting – it wasn't all bad to the point of feeling outraged (after rewatching few times, to be sure) but it wasn't that convincing. Just did a little research over how does it feel like when someone gets sh*t (yes, sh*t not pirced in the chest with a whole rod) and to my surprise, I got to know that at first one might not feel anything, just the impact's shock and numbness however within a few seconds they may start to feel an overwhelming burning sensation in the affected area if they don't pass out before this...
So, according to the previous statement Tonkla could've expressed that (tremendous) pain cause he had enough time to get over that numbness state while uttering his long farewell discourse somehow with clear words and a considerable stable tone. Instead Tonkla edured it smiling lightly while 'attempting to cover his pain but showing his bravery till the last second of his life' so Tong could picture a less traumatic 'forever goodbye moment' from his beloved brother. This just came to my mind but doesn't seem that convincing, althought that sort of makes sense considering Tong's posture in Tonkla's mourning gathering in ep. 10. Somehow, I managed to take that as a possibility to make that scene less questionable and take Tonkla's death scene less comedic which wasn't supposed to come across as comedic in the first place... Seems like they saved on the fake blood, plus it was noticeble how the rods were incongruent to the frame (Neo's chest rod didn't angle right with the scenary's prop. It was clear that they were two distinct pieces.)
Moreover, to me, the height of the 'unintentional comedy' in this scene was Mark trying to heal Tonkla while the rod was still stuck in his chest. I want to belive that Tonkla could be saved if Mark managed to pull that rod off and then use his healing habilities, I'm not even considering the IRL risks around it cause this is pure fiction, however the plot was set for Tonkla to die in that instant, unfortunately that wasn't well written for the sake of Mark's intelligence. I've to point that I'll discard Thara's perfume as a Mark's healing blocker cause he previously had used his power on Tonkla in that car accident scene.
Someone here made me question if Nakan shoved Tonkla to that rod on purpose or by accident. Or was it indeed Nakan? Cause Thara summoned herself to that church. Nevertheless she already predicted that someone was going to die there. Did she manage to make her way there in the speed of light to participate in her fragmented vision?
To sum it up, to me, the plot is gold – literally everything I didn't know I wanted to see in a BL series – but I've noticed some writing issues sometimes hard to ignore. Also, there were lines that could be supressed or not mentioned at all – these are minor cases.

This is my review to ep. 10.

It's official, Tonkla is dead and Tong has to live with the trauma of testifying his own brother's last breath, to worsen the PTSD worthy memory Tonkla's chest was bloodily pierced with a rod made of iniquity but intended fate – Tonkla was in too deep in the vampires den as a mere fragile human to continue to 'protect' Tong and make it out alive as he has nothing golden in his veins to be kept on aging till reaching maturation, hence his disposable nature, to vampires. In the end, Tonkla was a good soul, he sacrificed his own life to Tong, he deserved better. This looks so familiar to when Jesus got pierced in his chest with a lance in order to be sure if he was dead – He had a pure soul but too had an intended fate.
Tonkla was Tong's main reference in fearlessness and boldness, even in the brink of death Tonkla didn't break through his essence, more precisely the one side he always showed to his little brother. In light of this, Tong wanted to preserve that legacy that Tonkla left for him by not breaking into tears and giving in to weakness in front of the living and the unlived gathering there, however Mark knew better. Mark finds his ways to (re)learn about humans as a love promisse to Tong to which he's committed to give his best and his own to make his actions express to the fullest the immeasurable love he feels for him. One of Mark's greatest achievements was to express empathy – this is one of the qualities within 'humanity' to which most humans lack. He knows he has to be there for Tong more than ever from the time being... The oblique camera angle in the dorm scene was a simple touch to reinforce Tong's fragile emotional state and the tension within the scene – his world fell off; he lost his support and gave in to the loss of his brother ultimatly accepting the shoking reality and mourning of Tonkla's death by exposing that weakness that wasn't brave enough to take place, but in that instant.
In that bathub scene Mark and Tong sealed their love, as if they were baptised in bloodily rose waters and blessed with its good perfume – this as a non literal and symbolic ritual to communicate that they are ready to face the trials targeting their love (this also sounds familiar by a religious lens).
I'm not sure if the shirt swapping meant as much to Tong as it meant to Mark. Mark didn't change from Tong's shirt since he first dressed it, which, to me, felt like that shirt was more like an armor to him as he was making his way into the 'known' danger. Now that I'm writing this I had a sudden realisation: Tong felt like he didn't need that 'armor' (Mark's shirt) since he thought he was well protected at Thara's. Little did he know that she was the real menace. However, not forgetting to mention that Tong wears Mark's necklace, so symbolically speaking Mark will always make his way to Tong – both Tong's necklace and Mark's (Pirates) shirt serve as luckycharms evoking each other's presence (To reinforce this statement let me clarify: Tong wasn't dressed with his 'armor' when he got trapped by Thara neither Mark was dressed with his in that handcuffed upcoming scene, luckily Tong has his necklace so there's this materialised hope – that they will make their way to each other – through an object to which the audience can read over.) Mark's bite over Tong's shoulder felt like a mark in order to claim Tong as his – this felt like Mark leaned on his primitive ways to affirm his love and own being to Tong.
The staring at the moon scene felt like their silent prayer for it to keep an eye over the significant other as the moon was the only one present testimony of their love. It also felt like a pleed to make time run faster so that they can be reunited again.
The 'always dressed in white cause it's the colour that makes her look like a saint and her intentions noble' Thara was so sick of that so called 'love' she thought she knew better and tried to poison it like her venom was stronger than the power of the golden blood she thought she knew. Guess she couldn't beat the side effects of having a heart who beats for someone. Neither Tong nor Mark gave in to those trials. (But a bigger one awaits them further on.) Thara gifted every single vampire under her wing a clow toy – this as a metaphor to the ones she gave her blood to turn them into vampires. In the end, they've been playing as fools to Thara's monopoly game, mainly Mark.

No NakanTonkla would never... Nakan was an emotionless and no libido callings vampire. After he tasted the golden blood he just 'woke up' from his hatred against Thara. That's it...
I don't know why but I keep laughing so hard at Nakan's "Huh?! Khun Thara?!" line deliverance like he said "Huh?! That b*tch?! 🤣🤣🤣 (Nah! She's more like an albino elegant dried grape to me. Still sweet but with the horrible texture –consider this as reverse to reference her personality 😅).

About 2nd point: GMM is more concerned with the pairings' chemistry onscreen than in the actual actor suiting…
I won't go there...
I think it's because they don't get to understand Tong as a character.

That was called perfect timing, felt like a door got slammed at my face. NGL, it hurted my pride a lil like someone…
I'm too lazy to do whatever justice I claimed for. Inflatable ego fighters don't do that, I'm that one, BTW.

I just needed the encouragement! Thank you!😌🤌🏾

🤣🤣🤣

I got the dramatic monologue, unfortunately. But
I want to claim the winning belt to me, so at least that monologue will feel like it has some purpose.
As a BL fighter, my pride is too fragile to be provoked like this. I want justice!

Ah yes, the majestic art of Posting and Ghosting: Emotional Edition—a time-honored tradition on kisskh,…
That was called perfect timing, felt like a door got slammed at my face. NGL, it hurted my pride a lil like someone managed to dodge a punch in BL ringue and all off a sudden called for time out.
Like c'mon, that's a foul isn't it?

Normally, when someone doesn't like something they tend to let it go. Right? If you're still watching the show…
AHAHHAHA!!!
RIGHT?!
🤣🤣🤣
They'll probably read it anyway, so I'll let it be.
I put so much heart into this response it'll be a waste if I delete it 😅🤣.

Normally, when someone doesn't like something they tend to let it go. Right? If you're still watching the show most probably is because you're trying to make justice for those 2 years of waiting, and I kind of get it, TBH.
One thing I can't comprehend is how come you claim that MGB has no plot? You most probably are watching this series in a superficial way, if so I can guarantee to you that you won't get anything. So at least make those 2 years worth...
MGB is fundamentally about a romance story and the rediscovering of the lost 'human' within a vampire. To be more precise, it's about Mark's metamorphosis from a blood thirsty beast into a caring loving human – this is the main 'issue' to which the whole plot is carried. In traditional vampiric shows vampires are glorified, here Ark – the director – glorifies the human and humanity instead. By doing that, he's not following up to the cannon (cliché) plot, but delivering a creative reinterpretation of folkloric figure in its whole.

About Joss and Gawin's chemistry, this might be a personal flavour thing but I have to point that they were proposed another series without their's being aired yet. So this might mean something, right?

I think they are delivering an amazing performance in the series, specially Joss. But again, this might also be a personal taste thing so I won't go further in this. (GawinFirst felt great but JossGawin feels RIGHT).

To sum it up, MGB has its flaws but by far makes ME feel like Joss's abs (or NCs) are the star of the show. To me, it'll always be the plot which I previously mentioned.

This show and this pairing might not be your cup of tea but we're almost reaching the end of it. If you're still here you could go further to the end and give a solid opinion about the show, then.

I sincerely hope you still get to enjoy the series somewhere in its end, and somewhat make your already spent time worth 😅.

Probably OFDO won't be suitable for you, or try to jump the mature bits...
For 2026 I'd so want a dark criminal or mafia series 🥲. My delulu mind is waiting for their upcoming series pilot within this year.
What am I supposed to do when OFDO ends? I lost interest in other pairings as soon as I met JossGawin 😅😂.

Their chemistry was so good that they were selected to do another series without their's being released yet... Joss and Gawin were already announced as an official pairing in the beginning of this year, if I'm correct.

I love this pairing the most because they feel like a splash of freshness in the BL industry! Personally, they're a MASCxMASC pairing who don't fit into this top x bottom (tough x fragile) convo. To me, they have potential to deliver VERSE and I'm so living up for that, but I don't believe that much in GMM...

I think there are two problems with the series1. No sponsers (might be bcz of Joss controversy)2. Gawin was not…
About 2nd point: GMM is more concerned with the pairings' chemistry onscreen than in the actual actor suiting the character. Joss was the initial 'Mark' the casting team had already in mind however Tong was yet to be found that's why they ran an audition to search for the fitting actor. The auditions aren't only meant to find the suitable actors for the characters in that specific show (short period) but also to settle pairings up for future shows (long period) – which means these auditions are already projecting long period relationships.
In the end of the day, Joss and Gawin proved to everyone, in the audition day, that they were the perfect match.
