Really hoping this won't turn out like Blood Free where all the brilliant chemistry between the leads was wasted by the god awful ending and rushed pace. Disney+ has that track record after all...
Hoping this might be the drama that pushes Fan Zhi Xin into mainstream dramas...he's too talented to only be doing niche and mini dramas. Way better screen presence than some mainstream actors too...definitely a loss not giving him lead roles in full length shows
Bickering chemistry has always been a highlight in Korean dramas, and most actors nail it. But the moment the…
That's a very valid point honestly, I didn’t think about it from that perspective. But imo (and this might be a controversial take), the weight of the chemistry between leads in shows like this often rests much more on the male lead's shoulders than the female's. At least that's what I've observed so far in most of the shows I've seen with what I thought was great chemistry. And so here too, it's Lee Chae Min's screen presence as the king, from the styling, to his characterization, to how imposing he looks and really embodies that character that I think makes their chemistry work so well for me so far, beyond the bickering aspect alone. In constrast, My Demon is a show I've tried multiple times now to try and get into with a similar bickering dynamic, but there's a vitality and charm missing in Song Kang's gaze there that misses the mark in terms of chemistry for me. So while yes you bring up a really good point about the bickering aspect, I do think Lee Chae Min's presence alone is a big reason their chemistry is working for me so far.
Lee chae min here has more chemistry with yoona than all of his other leads who are "age-appropriate" combined...and this is coming from someone who isn't the biggest fan of age gaps irl myself and was really skeptical about his casting from the beginning...but from the moment the first posters came out to the actual show now, he's completely changed my opinion. He's charming as hell as the king and totally looks and acts the part just as well. Just goes to show that we need to stay open-minded lol...it's really not about the age-gap, but if the actors have enough maturity, charm and talent to create great chemistry.
I'm genuinely surprised by how lee chae min has more chemistry with yoona in this drama than his co-stars who were closer to his age like in Hierarchy...
guess she has to work again now that her paying friend left her supposing to have taken his money with him, she…
What r u talking about? She has been working consistently since her debut without any major breaks, eeven delivering more than 1 drama some years. Her male counterparts have had bigger breaks outside of military service. I wonder why they never get these assumptions?
Clearly viewers don't care for "the nice guy" anymore. More than half the edits I've been seeing for this show are about the second male lead and his obviously problematic obsession with the female lead. Looks like kdrama writers this decade went from toxic to greener than green flags and people are so tired to the point where they want to support toxic characters over the clean and pure ML with the personality of a brick.
Beyond the ridiculous premise, it's the way the makers had to picturize only shin eun soo with her hair down in school , like not even a little hair clip because a ponytail or braid with her hair type would not allow for exaggerating the unkempt-ness (if thats a word) of her curly frizzy mane while she's surrounded by other girls who all look like they put in the bare-minimum effort to come to school with pulled back hair (as picturized in the article above).
Reminded me of the Chinese drama The First Frost where in the flashback scenes, they had to have only the female lead with her hair down in school, looking like a manic pixie come to life, horribly out of place for a school setting.
Like, we get it. They're the main lead. But it's like it's not enough for the female lead to just be a normal school girl. They have to stand out some way or the other from the rest of the "average" crowd for the hero to take a look at them, for better or worse.
Too early to tell, but if this drama pans out the way I'm thinking it will purely based on the summary, it might actually become my favorite drama of the year. Looks like it has all the themes I love in stories: sisterhood, unrequited love, an aloof and tortured male lead, small town life, etc etc
Uh, if anything he is not type cast, he does comedy, thriller, action, romance lead, bad guy etc... and they are…
Yes but that's recently and i'm glad he's been able to branch out but the fact remains that for the majority of his filmography, he's been playing the same slightly dorky, goofy funny guy across different settings
Roh Jeong Eui is one of those child actresses whose acting is still stuck in the polite and smiley mode (well…
She was really good in Kill It tho! I had to do a double take to recognize her in Hierarchy. Not sure what happened from then to now. She got the typical k-celeb makeover but I'm not sure why it affected her acting...
Even lately lots of Drama titles sound all too similar:Good BoyThe Nice Guy (almost identical title to Nice Guy…
They should just leave the Korean title as it is, unless it's something completely difficult to remember. Loved the original title for Head Over Heels for eg...
Umm, maybe because acne IS unattractive? It looks hideous. There is not a single person with acne that wakes up…
So let's get this straight...your entire counter-argument (if it can even be called that) to my ethically relevant question of "when will creators ditch using offensive stereotypes and packaging it for youth" is "haha well acne *is* ugly haha!" and "well it's just how things work in the flawless Korean society that is above all criticism and anyone who questions their regressive ideals is a superior morning-breath smelling virtue signaler!"
Then I would suggest the flawless and superior Korean society keep their regressive content amongst their own people, instead of slapping on English subs hoping to profit from the same international crowd whose features keep being the mainstay of their "unattractive" booklet.
And you are 100% right that I definitely do not care about anything in this life as much you seem to do about the hideousness of acne, and upkeeping the dignity of flawless Korean "society", with how you're going around replying to everyone commentingunder this post sharing their own opinions, mocking my profile name (which *was* quite funny I will admit. thank you for the laugh and also for reminding me that I *am* being an idiot continuing to give my time and attention replying to a hate monger like yourself)
That is all I have for this comment thread. But feel free to keep those mindless childish insults without a relevant counter-argument coming. You can assume that I have continued to read and appreciate them.
