The death of the widow could have lured him out, fearing she had confessed before the suicide - as she did (?). It is a long shot to draw such conclusions, but then again he is this top notch genius scholar…

I think ML banks on revealing the bigger scheme. I guess if you really hit a he jackpot and do something of major benefit for the “crown”, leaving the troops whose commander has gone rouge and threatened your life can be overlooked?

Since the start of the military career in every preview I see ML short changed and mistreated. I understand they have a tough road ahead to “splendor”, but. surely, you can’t rise through the ranks while being short changed and tortured every step of the way?!?

Also, shouldn’t it be easy for Zoe to bring that whole chastity arch business of the Fu family down? Shouldn’t spilling the beans about FL’s survival (and that after she herself took down one pillar) be enough?

Yeah I know. I get the theory and it is a dream that many governments still try to sell, and it may sometimes work out. But in my book it is a lie as old as empires. This is what somewhat troubles me about the storyline. In essence, FL looks down on salt traders and their lives and would rather send ML to fight and quite possibly get maimed or die, on the chance that his - and thereby her - status will be elevated. That's why I tend to prefer stories about female fighters/generals. Whatever one thinks about their choice of profession, they go to the battlefield themselves, at least.

At which point as her son I would also get second thoughts about the bride. Am I supposed to marry her or my mum? The guy is still trash for what he did, but I can’t blame him for that sentiment.

I know this won’t be a popular opinion, but how joining the military is a reward is beyond me. Ok he can name drop cp and gets a horse - but still. Outside drama land I believe ML’s first instinct was the right one.

Also the lipstick. No guy has ever in the history of mankind looked better with lipstick. But still, we get ML with lipstick all the time. Make it make sense.

I am sure there are many tragic stories linked to chastity arches. However, depending on previous experiences, some women might also have seen it as a shield against another marriage (?). If a woman was unhappy / traumatized in a marriage, she might be glad to avoid another one (?). It is not like marriage was generally some ticket to love and/or freedom, I fear.

Maybe they want to do the title justice and air it next spring…

At this point, I just want to watch it. I don’t mind promotions, but if that means it will air even later to accomodate some time consuming promotion schedule, I’d rather go without.

I’m all for having a “man from the people” ML. But if said ML is way more educated than the average people in his class, there needs to be *some* explanation, like early education before the fall from grace, or having been picked from the streets and raised by a scholar or sect, or something.

I’m certain Xu Kai will nail his role, again. And, therefore, I will certainly watch it. I also like what. I’ve seen in the trailer regarding ML, FL and atmosphere. I’m not thrilled scenes were cut, but as long as the story telling remains intact, I can live with that. What I really, really do not want to see is a breakdown of the story line, like at the end of MR, where nothing made sense anymore, because the arc of ML had been obliterated.

I loved the story, but the ending felt incredibly rushed, brushing over loose ends, and this was precisely because the arc of ML was basically abandoned in favor of minute details and musings of side characters. So ML reappears from his coma 1, just at the right time at the right place, what went down during his coma 1/time travel is explained in a half-assed way in flashbacks - he took back his fate, ok, FL is forced to kill ML which is the only way to destroy the Evil, FL cries her eyes out and is inconsolable, because he is DEAD, yet, as it turns out in the time jump, FL decided not to bury him but to keep him at home, and he’s actually not dead but a demon (how and when and why did that dawn on her?), ‘cause why
not. And FL is also certain he’ll wake up sooner or later, which he does thanks to the plant, that actually cannot go against one’s fate - except in this case apparently. Make it make sense! There might be some explanations, but we will never know, because the minutiae of book boy tantrums were more important…

I actually believe his best role, where his talent as an actor really could shine, was 800. I’d place his depiction of Li Ni (WOL) second. Again, wide range of emotion that feel genuine, relatable. And on top of it I really like Li Ni’s character in the story, flaws included.
