Also, even when he “comes clean” when his parents ask him why ML goes after their family, he doesn’t even really come clean. Had it all ended with his initial scheme to not marry FL, both FL and ML would have let it go. FL said as much in Ganlin.

I know all the pressures really get to ML, but considering how smitten he was with FL before the 5 year gap, he appears very distant, restrained… whatever you may call it towards her. Obviously, he feels it is his duty to keep her safe and to marry her properly at some point. But considering how adamant he was about marrying for love… to me it all seems gone now.

I hope it will not become a WOL situation, where a concubine is basically forced upon ML and FL has to put up with it.

Well, in my view, EVERYONE of them including ML and FL would have done better continuing as salt merchants. Also, ML and FL should have married ages ago. 😂

Ep 20. I don’t quite get the dynamics between ML and the young boy in the house (A-Shen?). Ok, he is annoyed because his best friend - the guy who falsely claimed 16 heads for advancement, which backfired - got killed. But ML did not kill or pressure the guy - he was surprised when the man killed himself. Yet even ML always acts like he killed him, even laments about hard choices the (now grown) boy won’t understand in Ep20. I don’t this dynamic at all.

One was the (high level) education of girls in Ganlin, another was some reform of soldier uniforms, and the third was how she recovered old letters/wiritings of soldiers in a previous era. Those had been written on the wooden sticks she gathered in the desert, and they had been lost there in that previous era (the desert had been a battleground then, too). Those letters were a huge boost for the morale, when the war started. Didn’t general Wang read them to soldiers?

They definitely should have tied the knot back in Gamlin, right when she suggested it.

Actually, I do think that Yake is not as bad as the rest. What she did was unforgivable for sure, but still, the adults should have known better. Yake was impressionable, hurt (FL did not pass on the flowers to her brother), flattered by SML and when pushed made a cruel choice. But she didn’t design nor set the trap. FL won’t target Yake, I think, but her own choices - starting with her choice of husband - will be her downfall.
