I am kinda confused...Can someone explain the connection between the Organization/The Tribunal and the Janitor/the…
Take The Janitor (Fan Siyuan) as an Extremist vigilante killer antagonist who thinks it's justified to kill all Zero degree empaths who've escaped justice due to some means or the other while pushing for genetic testing bill will will effectively classify all zero degree empaths as dangerous and inhumane. This was a research project of his while working in the SID then choosing to work as the head of psychological research in university, where Hou Xiao and Pan Yuteng were his students. Already filled with extremist views, further fueled by the faulty investigations and dishonest dealings within SID, he chose to silently launch the 1st Project Zero after Hou Xiao's scandal, enraged by the way everything was buried under lies. Now, he's started the Project Zero under the pretext of research while slowly collecting victim details from the cases and maneuvering them into joining his quest for "Justice". As the alleged assailants of the cases being studied under the Project started dying one by one, there was a widespread panic within all the members involved, leading to project shutdown and rigorous questioning of each officer involved. Fan Siyuan ended up fleeing police after being categorized as the potential killer and then disappeared.
This happened prior to Fan Siyuan meeting Pei Chengyu. So essentially, while he was percieved as dead, Fan Siyuan changed his approach to the whole scenario and decided to co-ordinate with "the likes of Pei Chengyu" for the "greater good". He realised that the organization headed by the mysterious person (He did not know it was the Zhangs then) was easily accessible through the person who was its initial backer, Pei Chengyu. So he leaked certain details of the cases to "help" Pei Chengyu regain his control of the organization that had been slipping out of his hand. At this time, he also sneakily reached out to Luo Weizhao's mentor Lao Yang with the intel he'd collected about Hou Xiao's case revelaing that there's a mole within SID (By then he was 99% sure that it was The Zhangs but did not mention it to Yang as it would interfere with his plan of hiding behind the scenes to catch Zhang offguard, also he'd used Yang to further cement the 1%). Consequently, the Zhangs found out and killed Lao Yang and crashed Pei Chengyu.
Fan Siyuan went into hiding again, for 3 years this time, having successfully infiltrated the organization through Pei Chengyu. He waited for 3 years, meticulously setting up his plot to bring up the cases, sacrificing scapegoats in the process of attaining the grand ending he envisioned. Anything and anyone can be killed for the greater good he was fighing for, that's why killing Xiao Wu is justified for him. As for why he did not reveal the Zhangs earlier right to the doors of the SID, one, there were very few direct evidences. Two, the Zhangs were very influential. Third and the most important reason, An eye of an eye and a tooth for a tooth is the Janitor's motive. How can a person who destroyed another family have an easy ending? (Ironical considering he killed equally innocent people for fulfilling his ideology). Also Yang Xi was manipulated by him to believe that Lao Yang was betrayed by the very person he trusted in the police force and hence no police officer is reliable, creating distrust and breeding hatred all the while conviniently hiding the fact that he used Lao Yang as a bait to lure out The Zhangs.
I am as unhappy as you, I want to state that in the beginning. BUT I want to point out that censorship doesn't…
I do understand the point you're making, but I would like to point out that the book is based on Fei Du as the main character and so far, the series has portrayed him on a higher ground than SID because according to the plot which gets revealed later on, he's been investigating the whole ficaso since long back. However, SID is also on par with his abilities, not to be let down. Also, government censoring and licensing had already been completed prior to the initial release, so other modifications done are solely by the company which owns the series (for reasons unknown- maybe they wanted to test the waters with a "safer" version and then release the original uncensored one for a rate or maybe it was done solely for "safer" marketing purposes). I do understand chinese censorship and I do understand what you say about us getting to watch the rest a happy incident, but it's just the inner me who hopes to see a version as good as the first 8 episodes who can't let go of my expectations🥲
As a fan of priest's books and a person who has read Silent Reading twice, I must say that I am utterly baffled by the cut scenes and editing that do not even try to pretend to be un-cut. It just enrages me to think they thought it was okay to haphazardly cut and censor a drama that is wholly based on a very popular book and present it like they're doing a great favour for the fans. It would be totally different if the scenes were not filmed in the first place or atleast if they put effort into making seamless transitions between the cut out portions to make it look legible. But they had the nerves to edit out pivotal scenes that hold so much value and power in the plot as well as harmless, enjoyable scenes that carry on the lightness in a very plot-oriented drama all in the name of censorship. I tried to watch the new episodes because I genuinely cared for all the hard work the cast and crew had invested into creating a masterpiece out of the book (the first 8 episodes were gold), but, I could not proceed because of the disrespect evident in the presentation of the story. The edited out minutes not only exclude important details of the story (disrespect to the soul of the story, the author and the readers), but also mocks all the efforts the cast and crew put into filming those scenes. For example, The scene where Fei Du (Pei Su) interrogates Su Ruowan. It's a blatant display of Fei Du's capabilities and a cornerstone of the entire plot that will unfurl later on, an indispensable part which builds up on his mysterious character and psyche, also serving as a harsh reminder of the underlying rotten truths that remain buried as of now. It's easy to cut it off and pretend nothing changes in the stody, but oh God, it changes a lot. It underplays the depravity of the kidnapping, makes light of the crimes committed by the girl and also pushes the audience away from emotionally connecting with the story. Also, I don't think the cast and crew filmed this drama with so much dedication for it to end up being a grossly edited version that promotes such bone-deep homophobia. I feel like watching it further will hurt the reader in me and support the foolish desicion of cutting down such important and seriously un-important scenes like they'll choke the living hell out orthodoxy and straight people.
I watched an unfinished product that didn’t match its description at all. People are misunderstanding my criticism…
The reason why it seems so abrupt is the fact that the adadaptation stops right somehwere around 1000 pages of the book which has ~2000 pages. Tbh, I didn’t expect the adaptation to end here either, but with the news that the script for s2 is ready in hand, I can't think of a better part to end s1 with. If it ended with a confession, the emotions and excitement would definitely not carry onto s2, if it went even further, then the ending would make us shed tears of blood and leave meager plot for s2. So overall, in my opinion, this was the perfect scene to end s1 with plans for s2 on the way. A heads up would have been good though💀
For the people saying it's too much of a slow-burn, GUYS, their first kiss happens at the end of book 3. AT THE END!!! So fair warning, slow-burn is an apt description for this series. If you're not into it, maybe this is not for you
The Eclipse is a completely different genre and tbh, I don't think comparing this with that makes sense. This whole series is largely based on school and revolves mainly around the 2 leads, and what's more, the focus is more on characterization, romance, love, personal conflicts, acceptance and lots and lots of pining. Whereas The Eclipse had a background set primarily on societal inequalities, pressure, unfair rules, authoritative management and mental health. So I think it's a bit unfair to compare these two, just my opinion though
I get what you're saying. But that's how life works, any event happening in your life is bound to leave an impression on people close to you. The 2 leads getting together might have caused an impact on their family and friends in some way, but it was not deliberately done with vile intentions. Their parents found it societally challenging/personally unacceptable and I think it's their responsibility to deal with that. As for friends, I don't think it had a such a huge impact on them. Anyhow, real life's always bittersweet and that was portrayed well in the book.
Chinese censorship. https://twitter.com/mwsdrama/status/1763876259581378767?t=1zxH00hn2da18_poF0dAygI found it…
I see, I get it now. Though the whole thing seems so pointless and stupid (because the fans are going to identify the books from which the series are adapted anyway), I don't expect any less of idiotism from the NRTA (from the darn CCP)
I'm hoping this also gets a release window sometime after the positive announcement of Spirealm getting back on Iqiyi. Fingers 🤞
Just curious, I noticed that the actual names of the characters were used during filming based on the actors' lip movements (Fei du, Luo Wenzhou...etc) but got changed to Pei Su, Luo Weizhao.. etc during dubbing. Does anyone know why the names got changed?
Whom do I need to beg to so that I can get to watch the whole drama? I am watching it after putting it off for so long and now in shreds because I can't get to see them more.
I can't ever get over the fact that Fei Du and Luo wenzhou were on the screen right out of the book and I didn't get to see the whole thing. Still have this tiny piece of hope that won't ever go away💔
