It's worth watching, not focussing on romance, though, but on Yue Fei's rise and fall, the attacks of the Jin and the fall of the Song.

I'm currently re-watching "The Patriot Yue Fei" and working myself through all the interesting Jin Dynasty and Song Dynasty characters. Absolutley great.

I haven't watched it, yet, but I heard from several directions that it's a nice one. I'll check it out. Thank you for the tip! :)

I hope, it will do justice to the Novoland world and concept.
So far, to me, "Tribes and Empires" is still the one and only Novoland drama that really hit the concept of Novoland being the Chinese response to Tolkien's high fantasy tales, which it got inspired from.
My biggest concern is, based on the first trailer, that it will be just another average romance tale, using the Novoland concept as cover.
If I think, of the first trailers for "Novoland: Tribes and Empires" and "Novoland: Eagle Flag" - they promoted high fantasy and the Novoland concept.
The trailer for "Pearl Eclipse" promotes it's leading couple only and nothing else.

Han Derang is not a historical figure, he's an original character created for the novel.
Empress Dowager Chengtian (Xiao Yanyan) did not remarry.

The historical Xiao Yanyan had (1) no problems with marrying the Emperor, (2) the two had at least three sons and three daughters, (3) the Emperor passed away way too early and untimely, (4) Xiao Yanyan became Empress Dowager Chengtian and ruled in the name of the 12 year old crown prince (the later Emperor Shengzong) and (5) she still commanded a 10.000 riders strong cavalry at the age of 60 and even defeated the legendary General Yang Ye of the famous Yang family.

The Liao Tribes can also be seen in "The Patriot Yue Fei" (2013) - at the point of time when the Liao overran the Song Dynasty and its weak last three Emperors and without the worn out love triangles.

Yup! That storyline is so worn out like the elastic straps of 50 year old jogging pants.

Me too, even more as the historical Xiao Yanyan wasn't unhappy with the Emperor as her husband, as it seems. The story would have perfectly worked out for a drama series without a fictional love interest for her and focussing on the historical goings-on, instead.

Not sure what will happen to the fictional ML, but the historical Xiao Yanyan became one of the most powerful women of her time after the Emperor passed away and as it seems, the historical Xiao Yanyan was not unhappy in her marriage.

One of the few drama series that really got me involved.
I also love the leading lady and how she grows up without becoming a Mary Sue.
Such a nice little series. Low-budget, for sure, but the way it gets performed, with a lot of fun, heart and warmth, makes it a sweet highlight of 2020.

Let's keep a watchful eye on them. These youngsters are truly amazing.

Thinking of Burt Lancaster in "The Crimson Pirate", naver fails to make me feel good despite the fact that the movie was already a classic when I got born. :D
But there are quite some handsome and fierce swashbuckling pirate, too, in Chinese movie "River Pirates". The leading man stole my heart the moment he entered the screen. lol

I think, Qu Chu Xiao (same as Chen Xing Xu and a few others) is truly more interested in challenging roles than in being an idol, so, there is a good chance that he'll have a great carreer as a character actor ahead. We'll find out, for sure.

Yep! Zhang Hanyu dubbed Sir Peter O'Toole as King Priamos in "Troy", Bagheera in "Jungle Book" and, as far as I know, King Theoden in "Two Towers" and "Return of the King" and he has more on his sleeve. No surprise with his amazing voice.

It's always nice to meet someone who shares the same interests if it comes to certain things.
I'm really fond of pirates, so, I followed the discussions about this new drama, "The Romance of Hua Rong" and the "handsome" pirate in this show.
I checked on some pics and had to restrain myself from laughing out loud hysterically, while comparing the little operetta pirate to Errol Flynn, Burt Lancaster and Johnny Depp...

Absolutely! I guess, that's why I'm so fond of Water Margin. The heroes come from all social classes: Hunters, inn-keepers, fishermen, traders, clerks, scholars, thieves, soldiers, guards etc.
The women are neither the usual stunning beauties nor are they Mary Sues and the men are not all the honourble knights in shining armour. Sadly, this kind of stories about commoners are rare.

Yes! That would be great! It's how Zhang Han Yu started off as a young actor. He did the Chinese dubbing for several movies like "Troy", "Lord of the Rings" or "Jungle Book" to name only a few.
