In history, the Emperor married the younger Fu after his wife, the elder Fu, died. He married the younger Fu for the sake of his son, but their relationship remained platonic and respectful and served political purposes only. But that has not to be the same in this series...
Not sure what they'll make out of it in this series. In history, the Emperor married the elder sister and it was the second marriage for both of them. When the elder sister died, the Emperor remained without an Empress/Queen for three years, but finally married the younger sister for the sake of his young son. Historical sources say, that marrying the younger Fu was just for political reasons without ever having gotten physical.
As this is set in the Later Zhou Dynasty, I suppose, Xue Rong is based on Guo Rong (aka Chai Rong), the second Emperor of Later Zhou, while Fu Yu Zhan and Fu Jin Zhan, the Fu sisters, are based on Empress Fu the Elder and Empress Fu the Younger. Well, if they stick with history, both FLs will end up with the ML...: The younger sister became Empress three years after the death of her older sister and after Emperor Gao Rong had been without an Empress since the elder sister's passing away.
Dropped! I tried hard to keep on going, because Nie Yuan as Lü Buwei is simply a housenumber! His performance is excellent and totally on spot and in character. He does a splendid job to create a believable portrait of the famous historical merchant, politician and courtier in the shadow of the Kings of Zhao and Qin. His intense play reminded me of the stunning performance, masterly actor Leo Genn delivered as Gaius Petronius in 1951's cult-movie "Quo Vadis". Hats off!!!
But!!! What finally made me drop this drama was on the one hand the repetitive storyline (I lost count on how often Lü Buwei had to head to the rescue to save Haolan in the first 20 episodes alone) and on the other hand the big amount of hysterical psycho-females as well as the overly dragged out pace of the show. Cut it down to 40 episodes and you'll get a compact and way more credible tale about the events circling round Lü Buwei, Lady Zhao Ji (Haolan), Ying Yiren and Ying Zheng (the later Qin Shi Huangdi).
Aside from the main couple, I love the emperor and Juan’s master so much.
Huang Hai Bing as her martial arts teacher is hilarious. He always delivers 100%, but I can't get rid of the feeling, he really had fun playing this role. He's a perfect mentor for the ML and FL.
By length one of the most enjoyable, entertaining and satisfying drama series of 2020, so far. Seems, we'll finally get to see a FL developing from a naive little girl into a grown-up woman who can fend for herself. We had way to many of those FLs, who were badass in the beginning and turned into dumb barbies and cry-babies as soon as they fell in love with the MLs. To see things develop in the other direction and to see the FL grow stronger, more independent and developing more self-esteem through the encouragement of her lover and the support of her martial arts teacher, is very, very refreshing... So far, I really love everything about this drama. Nicely done in all aspects - from writing, over casting up to performance and visuals.
I’m enjoying it very much. It’s only at 10 episodes and the angst is low, Already, the heroine is trying to…
Yes! It's one more reason why I really enjoy this drama. It has 'classical' looking fight scenes and this sweet retro-feeling. It's all well balanced - the humour the fights, the seriousness, the love - and not overdone like it's done in so many dramas at the moment.
The actor who plays the villain in Under the Power makes a a guest appear here. Do you think he will re-appear…
Han Dong willl return for some more scenes. I've already seen pics of him in different robes. Huang Hai Bing is also just listed as guest, but I'd not consider the master swordsman he plays as guest-role only.
What chemistry? I almost feel like me and my neighbor have better chemistry than these leads. That just me though…
Totally agree with you! She's definitely one of the most likeable female characters in a drama of this category ever. And in a way, she has her own way to be strong and "badass". If you think, how she tricked master swordsman Lu Xing Yun into teaching her - that was pretty clever and well thought out. :)
It is certainly not captivating to me. Not that I understood anything when watching raw. :-D But still, it was…
Yes! The cast is definitely what would keep me going, too. It's one of those "filler-dramas" you can watch while wating for episodes of the captivating ones to be released.
Started watching "Longmen Express" a few days ago, RAW (sadly), but that's a hilarious firework of fun. Even without subs, I often have a hard time not to fall off my sofa from laughing. That cast is so good and the uncountable amount of guest stars is totally great, too. Highly recommended! :D

Thank you for the tip!!!
