I thought this would be a pretty decent series, but it actually exceeds my expectations by a lot so far.
Usually when there is past-future communication they tend to keep past ML and past FL and future ML and future FL separate, however in this it seems like there is going to be contact between them in their current timelines and past/future timelines as well. Which I really like, it makes perfect sense. Looking forward to next week!
I stopped watching, the FL is just as immature as ep.1. I really can't sympathize with her, at least the ML seems to be making some adjustments for her and their relationship while she is just running around not thinking about him at all.
Is it just me or does anyone else find the premise of the FL's power uncomfortable? I mean.... Her power is basically…
I just want to say, that I've considerably cooled down since watching the first episode and think it seems like a fun, fluffy youth drama. I get why people would want to watch it. I also watch a lot, A LOT of dramas which are illogical, has immoral lead characters, or horrible ML. Many times the point in watching Asian dramas for me is just to have fun and not think to much.
Honestly, a part of me thinks I should just drop this discussion as this isn't really the forum for a discussion about consent, ethics and being responsible for you actions. On the other hand, I think the ethics shown in a lot of the dramas I watch are quite bad and we have a huge issue with understanding consent in general in society. So this is just another drama which doesn't take seriously that males can be assaulted nor that a person under the influence (of drugs, alcohol, or in this case her power) cannot give true consent.
Well... after 24 hrs it wears off and the person returns back to their normal self and they kind of just brush…
It seems to me that people have very different reactions to the zap. Some have no reaction (like her friend and the ML friend), some have a very strong reaction (like the flashback to highschool). So to categorically say that everyone just brushes it off I think is premature, as it probably depends on what happens during the 24h. Also, the ML did seem perturbed when he woke up after the first day.
And she DOES go around zapping people willingly. It doesn't really matter that it is only for one friend (so far). She tries multiple times, and even retries after the first attempt fails. So far I have seen no indication that she thinks she is doing something wrong, giving people basically a love potion.
Sure, she is uncomfortable with her powers but why? Not because she doesn't want to use them or because she thinks it is morally wrong to mess with peoples emotions. She dislikes them because of social pressures and negative feedback from others. If everyone around her though her powers were great I think she would use them freely for herself and people she likes. Because she doesn't think about her victims, only the consequences to herself.
I feel sorry for her that she was unfairly bullied and judged, she does not deserve that. But she does deserve to be judged from the actions she voluntarily makes.
You sound exactly like those who had misunderstood/bullied Wei Wei in the drama... Just to clear one thing up,…
Well, rereading my comment I get why I kind of sound like those who bully her. She shouldn't be judged just because she has that kind of power, and it wasn't her choice to have it. When accidents happen she shouldn't be blamed as it wasn't her fault. However, what upset me wasn't her power per say but her irresponsibility in using it. She may hate her powers, but she still actively tries to use it to the benefit of her friend.
And I disagree that it was Dai Xi alone who abused her power. Wei Wei is a grown woman responsible for her own actions. She should and could have said no to Dai Xi.
I'm so bad at remembering characters, who was Yun Wang and Qi Wang? If your talking in general about why the emperor…
Yun Wang - evil dude, Qi Wang - ML. Haha, honestly I really really suck at remembering the names as well but am making an effort ;) though I will 100% forget who they are in a month or so...
So he is basically just easily swayed? Sucky character trait for an emperor, hopefully he grows out of it. It just still doesn't makes sense to me, if he's just gullible why doesn't his brother help guide him then? If the emperor was being strategic or forced to balance power for sure I could see why even if the brother said something he couldn't act on it. But if he's just easily convinced then couldn't the brother at least WARN him?
If it wasn't a power factor then I mean, he IS the emperor almighty. If the brother just told him that evil dude was evil then he could just stop listening to him. Or demote him or whatever - the emperor rules all.
Ugh, just a drama, just a drama, just a drama. But it still annoyed me. Almost perfect otherwise, but the emperors murky motives really made me feel like he was just placed there for some forced drama. Good guy emperor - but not too good because then that would be too easy for the ML and FL. Not Bad guy emperor - because then they would have to add a plot to depose him. So he's just stuck in the middle being utterly useless.
Is it just me or does anyone else find the premise of the FL's power uncomfortable? I mean.... Her power is basically to rob people of their free will. And she seems totally unbothered (ep. 1) to use it on someone who has VERY clearly expressed that he is not interested in the woman she is matching him with or ANYONE at all. What will he feel like after 24h? Used? Humiliated? And what if her friend had used the time he "likes" her to kiss him? (Mild physical action since it is a Cdrama after all). While under her power the victims are unable to give consent to any physical action so that would be assault. When he wakes up, and they (potentially) kissed what would that be like?
Ugh, I often think I should take dramas less seriously but people acting hella unethical is a real annoyance to me. I get that she is supposed to be "cute" and "naive" or "mischievous" but her complete disregard for the ML's right to personal autonomy really makes me feel contempt for her. Sure, it isn't mind control but everybody knows that love makes you really vulnerable to the person they love and she just doesn't care.
Perhaps she grows later on and stops using her power? This is one superpower I for one cannot see any positive use to.
One character who confused me was the emperor. Was he really neutral between Yun Wang and Qi Wang? Or was Yun Wang's power so large that he to some extent had to play along? It was never clear to me WHY he went along so easily with Yun Wang or in general just seemed to bow to whoever talked most forcefully. Was he just a weak guy?
tbh i don't mind su ci's slip up in ep 22 (altho a lil frustrating, yeah) because people can be irrational sometimes…
Usually, when a FL is that irrational and randomly suspicious of a person she should trust I just feel extremely annoyed. And usually it is just a forced misunderstanding to create some tension, which never works well for me as it is just too stupid.
However, I agree that in this case Su Ci's actions actually works OK. It is pretty clear that she's acting on some intense trauma and emotions and not on rational thinking. The sound was a trigger for her and made her act out of character and feel insecure about her reality. I actually feel really happy with this scene as it showcases her trauma from her past well - something which in other instances isn't really explored.
Hopefully, this coming Monday Oct 13. I hope we won't find cobwebs at this site!
Thanks! Haha, then I hope so as well ;) I really don't keep track of when series or episodes are published so sometimes it gets quite confusing to know when to expect the next episode
Ikr, Kyung Suk is the main reason I really enjoyed that series because of how straight-forward he is about the…
It was very refreshing, overall it is actually one of my favourite dramas, but in a low-key way. The ML was just soooo good and the FL's growth I also appreciate. Actually... discussing it makes me want to rewatch it again ;)
Do Kyung Suk indeed is the undisputed king of harsh rejection of a SFL :) I love his clear stance towards her, though he does soften a bit later on. Could you do a list of FL who tells SML to buzz of? I'm getting kinda tired of them (inadvertently) leading the SML on...
Preaching to the choir, sister. It all comes down to what makes the FL's world go round - LOVE
Well you are totally right, dramaland is often very problematic and portray either unhealthy or toxic relationships. Plus often they seem to want to send messages which are... stupid as hell or dangerous as hell. And I wonder as well what it does to my unconscious to be watching so much bad romance...
For me the quote was less about a ML-FL relationship and more about a SML-FL relationship I guess. Often the SML pursue a FL who is in a relationship or uninterested. They do this with the rationale that the FL would be happier with them.
However, this really rubs me the wrong way and is why I very very rarely get SLS. Because in their chase the SML oversteps the boundaries put down by the FL all the time. They claim the right to decide the FL's life and what is best for them and then (often) undermine the ML-FL relationship. To make the FL happier. But this isn't true, and even in the case where the FL might be happier without the ML it is not the SML's decision to make.
The quote, or more accurately the clip in the trailer, to me lays bare the problem with SML. They claim to pursue the FL because they can make her happy. But in the end they are just doing it because they refuse to accept a no. For me, a lot of SML are assholes as they take advantage of the FL's trust and manipulate her into doing what they want. The ML-FL relationship often has very little trust (an issue in itself) and so the ML very rarely manages to make the FL do something his way by manipulating her. (ML has other just as destructive ways sometimes though...) However the SML misuses the FL's trust all.the.time. Which is why, even if they seem sweet and better for the FL, it is rare that I like the SML as they in the end are mostly selfish lovesick manipulators.
Honestly I was totally hooked to this drama when I saw the argument between the ML and the SML in the trailer. Basically:
SML: I can make her happier than you. ML: You cannot. SML: I can! ML: You cannot. Because she loves me.
Sure, there are exceptions (like shitty ML's who only makes the FL miserable), however this is what it comes down to. Love is what makes the FL happy in dramaland, and no matter how great the SML is it cannot trump the happiness the FL gets from her love.
I was looking forward to this then I saw a new trailer (at least for me) with a very different tone and suddenly I was even more pumped! Looking forward to next month :D
