The funny thing is I'm watching this cos of your review 😂. I couldn't watch One Spring Night. I dropped it after 2 episodes. I know you loved it so I'm not trying to bash your taste or anything. People have hated dramas I loved as well. But I might just love this one since it's a different take on the original. Wish me luck. I still have a lot on my to-watch list already. So whenever and if I end up watching this I'll come back and tell you whether I loved it or not.
To be honest, I'd recommend Season 2 over season 1 to anyone. I did enjoy both. Yeah, my opinion kinda differs from that of the ones who said season 1 was boring. It's a very dark theme so I get why it wasn't a pleasant watch for anyone. I couldn't binge season 1 cos after each episode, I'd take a break to heal from it before going ahead. However, season 2 went a different route entirely - fraud as opposed to trying to be a god over people which was basically what happened in season 1. Season 2 is much more watchable and more relatable if you would. Uhm.... I don't know what else to say. So yeah, try season 2. You absolutely don't need to see 1 to understand 2.
Guess who I hated the most? It wasn't the king. It wasn't his evil secretary or even Lady Jang. It was Chae Kyung's father. That man was the absolute worst. I couldn't even understand what he was playing at. Being a good and loyal subject? What kind of blind loyalty is that? Dude, either you choose to be a tyrant just like your king and stop pretending to be good, or you call a spade a spade and face the fact that your king turned into a maniac. What the hell? And at the expense of your own daughter's life?
Many cast Asia as a similar death trap: when it's not malaria and plague, it's terror and women rapes and burning…
I see you're one of those. Of it doesn't affect me, everyone else is overreacting. If they're going to mention Africa, then they should do their assignment right and stop with their stereotypes. I never once said it was African. I dropped that drama months ago and have seen other dramas over that period. I just haven't been on this app or any other one for a long period. Hence, my late response. Thank you.

It did colour the whole story cos they should have done their job right. However, that creates no bias whatsoever, at least for me, against Chinese people. I think it'd be senseless to do that. I still enjoy Chinese dramas but I most definitely will not be continuing any drama with such a lacklustre portrayal of a continent. I currently even dropped a Taiwanese drama for black facing. I'm not going to make myself go through such offensive stuff cos it's just a "quirk" to you. It's even offensive in itself to refer to such a degrading act as just a quirk.
Another Asian drama with racist comments about a whole continent. Africa is a continent of 54 beautiful countries but somehow these people find a way to depict the continent as a death trap. What on earth was that comment about there being Ebola virus and Lassa virus? There are diseases in every part of the world for God's sake. It's either they're going to drill a borehole like in Shooting stars. It's trash like this. Do your research or try travelling for a change.
