Title Destined
Lord Jiang told his nephew to pick and choose his battle but GJS did not listen. There is something about the importance of small steps. Clearly the Emperor and Lord Jiang have greater foresight.
Moving GJS away from the limelight and separating the gang was for their own good because they were seen as a threat. The emperor cast a perception over the court about all of them. Also faking Yu Ru's death managed to appease the Dowager and the annoying princess married someone else.

The court is very much like a chess game, your movements are vital to create the desired outcome but young righteous people may not have the wisdom to understand. The Emperor and Lord Jiang already knows who is the real culprit, hence all the political game by Lord Jiang with LZS.

It is common for generals to take over the throne and establish themselves as the new Emperor, and he knows the Zhous are befitting the crown. Oh well that's politics for you.

Title Mr. Queen Spoiler
One a the very few series I rewatch again and again because the acting, the cooking and the comedy. My favourite scenes are always the confrontation scenes between the King and Queen, Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hun were amazing. The acting and the subtle expressions were spot on.
My favs
When she slaps him and everyone is shocked followed by the table pulling.
When she burps and he almost passes out.
When he takes the pin and ask her to kill him if she thinks he poisoned her, then she saying you think I wont kill you.
Their fight after she saves him and Uibin, their back and forth dialogue was just too good. Then she even aims the hairpin at him.
Their constant 'no touch' arguments .
Him running to her after she fainted.
The King in protective mode against her evil cousin trying to take her away saying she is my woman.
When she approaches him in a prim and proper manner about appointing concubines, then he tells her that it was weird seeing her like that.
When he gives her flowers and she says how can this tactic be this old, and him getting offended.
The anti-fan is also a fan scene
Their hide and seek around the palace

To me I think Jang Bong Hwa and Kim So Young are one of the same people, one ruled the heart, the other ruled the mind. Initial episode we had Bong Hwa's voice (who was dominant) then it was So Young's voice (she took over). Both of them went into vegetative state when the souls met.

Also Kim So Young was not in Bong Hwa's body because he was in coma at the hospital. Their souls were intertwined in the Joseon Era so were their consciousness . When his soul or consciousness left, So Young asked where is that man, so that mean she was aware of Bong Haw as he was aware of her. There were moments, he could not control So Young because from the very beginning he could feel her feelings towards the King. So both Bong Hwa and So Young were present at the same time.

Glad you join the club. Thank you for your lovely long comment. Giving me another perspective to look at. Mind…
I researched the novel a bit and I think the makers made the right decision to tweak the storyline and characters as well as the depiction. The series needed commercial success and if they had shown too much abuse or too much darkness, it may not have resonated with audience. The makers made the main characters and story line likeable.
It was painful to watch the abuse, I am glad they showed bits and pieces of it to give context.
But I actually thought TTJ entrapment of XW was a smart move. It was like a checkmate moment considering how bad she was actually was (before Susu came). LSS character in the series is also different from the novel from what I gather, which is good.

Heroes will punish the bad guys, they always do, some gray characters are more like vigilantes,
Here his beginning is the same up to the point where Li susu comes as Xi Wu, she is the variable that changed which made him grew that love thread. His past life as the God of war also influenced him, I would think.

So although origin is the same but the outcome changed because of Xi Wu but he also started thinking beyond her because he became a better king and not wanting his people to suffer. He had people around him like his bother in law, his tribesman and the Fox.

He to me is neither a hero or a villain, can say a gray character but in the end yes he died a hero for the greater good, The end decision is not solely based on Xi Wu, but also his master, his friends , ending the suffering of people and bringing peace to the world. But his emotions are deeply affected by her because she is his most precious one true love.

What I meant with does it make sense is that anyone who has had a rough life if they are given a second change would they make the same decisions in life ? like in general

No worries, everyone is right from how they perceive it to be, I think there are no wrong interpretation.

My view I guess is coming from superheroes' stories. This is something that has been discussed by others and what was said is that in terms of superheroes and villains, they have similar origin stories. Often they are orphaned, left to fend for themselves, bullied and mistreated.

But the difference between a hero and villain is how they react to it.
A hero grows up, making sure no one has to suffer they way he did while the villain grows up bitter and wants everyone to suffer the same way he did.

Here in the first take, he became a villain because he felt wronged by those around him and he wanted everyone to pay the ultimate price. He was born to be a devil, so he became the worst one of all. He killed everyone.
In the second take, with one variable change which is the realisation managed to change the outcome despite him becoming a devil. So he died a hero by sacrificing himself.
The point here is that if you are given the same predicament but they way you see things changes, the outcome changes. It is like would have still taken that path if you were given a choice now that you know what you know. Does that make sense?

Fantastic write-up with insightful reflection of this master piece. Consider writing it as review, your reflection…
Thanks but I think I have written quite a bit already. Also there's so many characters and it can be a thesis hahaha

I thought they could do a bit less blood spitting. After the 100th time, it loses its dramatic effect.
Oh well that's ok. Some things are better left alone I guess.

The maids did their best, selling everything to feed him oftentimes eating less. His mother loved him coz she chose to die so that he could live. His father was anticipating for his arrival and did think he was better than his older evil brother in terms of taking over the reigns. There was Xiao Lin who showed him kindness, what it meant is that when you are literally being demonised, people can make you belief you are worthless which is why he never stood up for himself. Had he believed that there was even an ounce of love, he would have not taken all the bullying, which is what Xi Wu managed to make him realise. Even his maid asked him the same question about dignity, if he defended himself then, people would not have treated him badly again.
In the end no one can help you if you don't want to help yourself to begin with.
He was wallowing in self-misery and choosing to listen to the whispers of the devil until the wife told him to snap out of it and be a man basically.

I know right. It was a bit much. Something the production should reconsider for the second season.

Me too. I find all her scene riveting. As usual, she outshines her co stars again. Only Yoon Kyung is managing…
Agree with you, she takes over her role. I still remember her in the Legend of the Blue Sea, she had a smaller role but I still remember her more than the ML.

Everyone is still on about her work in Mr Queen but that was a different character and will always be her best work but that should not be a benchmark for comparison.

Whenever I see Yoon Kyung I think of her as You're my sunshine.
I honestly liked Ji Eun interaction with Mr Ha with them whispering to each other, Somehow I felt the chemistry there.

But I get that Seo Ha is a traumatised introverted character while Ji Eun has a strong confident personality, so their interaction is actually on point.
On Till the End of the Moon Jul 4, 2023
Only recently I picked up C-Dramas again because of the rave reviews over the xianxia shows. I grew up watching loads of C-dramas and movies but sort off put in the back burner with the Korean wave. But with online streaming, a good content despite the language will stand out on its own.

Now this show was staring at me again and again when I was on Netflix. I could not understand why people were going crazy over it and I really don’t like getting disappointed or rather irritated if turns out to be a bust.

Till the End of the Moon, God Damn it!!! My dark circles bear witness to how awesome this show was. I got hooked after the first episode and literally binged the whole series until I had a migraine because I wanted Tantai Jin to WIN and I wanted Tantai and Xi Wu to have their happy ending but why oh why was it so hard! *cries* *still crying* . I mean I understand the ending but still my heart aches for them.

The universal theme of "LOVE" changes everything yourself, your fate and the world is common but three lifetimes of these two people swimming against the tide will make anyone root for them.

I liked how in the end he embraced his fate confidently knowing that he will overcome it. I liked how the elders showed him to look at things from a different perspective that he was loved/cared by a lot of people even before Xi Wu came, he just did not realise it because like most people we often give into the whispers of the devil. Tantai Jin chose to accept himself as the Devil God but he also chose to change the outcome, all because he knows he does not have to do what it expected of him instead he can do what is right.

Tantai Jin was neither a villain or a hero, he was both because we humans are made of both, good and bad sides but the choices we make will ultimately define who we really are. Those in the realms of heaven and supposedly 'good' immortals committed a lot of bad things too but again perception over reality will play into how people see us. In this manner Tantai Jin was a victim of perception not reality.

As for Xi Wu/ Li Susu the righteous lady who see people for their worth. She beliefs in the goodness of people and strives to bring out the best in them. She knew her husband was the devil but she chose to treat him as a human being, a gambled that paid off. How you treat a person is a telling sign of the kind of person you really are. I always believe that if you want to know what kind or how a person is, observe how they treat and talk to people who serve them (waiters/ service sectors). The other thing is her tenacity, she is who she is and will believe what her conscience tells her based on the action of the person.

Both Tantai Jin and Xi Wu went to till the end of the moon for each other, a poignant love story that will always remain special.

But I could not get over the bloody spits, come on!
On Love between Fairy and Devil Jul 4, 2023
I finally watched it after going back and forth because I don't like to watch things which are hyped up and then getting disappointed.
But ... this did not disappoint because I was sold when Dongfang summons Shang Que the dragon from the Oblivion River. The way the dragon was staring at his master after 30,000 years then shapeshifting into a human was awesome. It was a solid 10 for me.
I liked how the flames were blue because naturally when you turn on the gas, the blue flames are hotter than orange.

Yes Orchid's voice was quite annoying but her role was supposed to be annoying, innocent, oblivious and child like. I liked how nonchalant she was with Dongfang by pushing him, shoving him, scolding him and she even threw his sword like it was nothing. Dongfang and Shang Que were like flabbergasted at her antics and in disbelief "What the fish?!!" So the comedy really made it a fun watch for me.

SML the God of War, oh man he was so cute and tall. I wished he had a happier ending with Fairy Dan Yin. Did I mention that he was the best looking of all ? :p

In the end it just goes to show the universal theme of "LOVE" will overcome everything and anything. Nothing new here in that sense.
I suppose all one needs is a person to show us love, that we are worthy of love and believe in us despite how we used to be. And of course "LOVE" can create magic by changing one's fate.

I will rate this series a 9 and it is rewatchable.
On See You in My 19th Life Jul 4, 2023
Story is picking up and the plot is moving towards the revelation. We actually got to see that Ji Eum has been following up with her entire family not just Seo Ha. We also get to see that her soul has been yearning to find the one true love, and it would also seem that her past lives have been quite harsh. Things got good in her 18th life, which is why on her 19th awful life she decided not to play along. But I wonder if they have met in their past lives before.

The two other mysterious people well I think the tiny lady is Seo Ha's mom and probably the guy is the Mr Ha ( the driver) or I could be mistaken. The uncle is the one behind the car accident and not the step mom because she doesn't seem to be evil enough.

I am watching this only for Shin Hye Sun but I am definitely feeling for the SML Mr Ha Jr secretary. Somehow the loyal sidekick, well-behaved, self-restrained angry young man appeals to me. (like in Business proposal)

I keep hearing they are going to remake this series, I don't understand why though. Filmmakers around the world are all doing remakes of movies and songs but they end up tanking. Just let it be.
