It really happened. The concept is like transmigrating [transported] into the survival game, being sucked into…
In the novel :
1. It is not a game world, but more like the survival journey in the netherworld.
Those who got into these world were 'dying' people because of illnesses or accidents.
Once they could go through the door, their health would be improved.
2. Ruan Nanzhu [the name in the novel] was a door god, to be precise the twelfth door god. He's like the last and most notorious door god of all doors.
3. Lin Qiushi was actually the Obsidian leader. Then Ruan Nanzhu had a crush on him, so he decided to leave his life as the twelfth door god.
The effect was his and Qiushi's memory were erased and the life setting was also changed. Nanzhu became the Obsidian leader and met Qiushi at the 1st door and started the journey from beginning.
3. There's no game setting in the book, there's no Gao Dawei either.
4. The characters in the novel is more ruthless [less humane]. It has more horror and gore elements.
5. They got the happy ending. Ruan Nanzhu chose to leave the door world to be with Lin Qiushi in the human world.
That would be the main difference between the series and the book.
It really happened. The concept is like transmigrating [transported] into the survival game, being sucked into…
There are 3 worlds exist.
1. The real world. 2. The world inside the game where the main setting on the story. 3. The world inside the door.
Everyone who got in touch with the game, even only logging in without even playing it will be sucked into the door world for the first time.
They 'touched' the game on the real world, then got sucked into the door world, and would be staying inside the game world until they conquer all of the doors without them realising it.
Ling Jiushi was sucked into the door world on his first quest.
Then after completing the first door. He returned to the world inside the game where everything is similar to the real world.
When Jiushi met them for the first time, LDY had become BaiLu leader, Chen Fei and others had joined Obsidian, and Tan Zaozao had become actress, so their initial profession before 'touching' the game were never really mentioned.
[We only knew TZZ had become actress for 10 years, Chen Fei was veterinarian, and Li Dongyuan as phone-accs stall owner which was shown on ep. 01]
All the players were 'detained' inside the game world [without them realising it] until they could clear all of the doors alive or dead.
That is why the code name for the prototype of this game is called 'The Spiritual Realm' because once you played it, you will be staying in that spiritual world [the game world] until you successfully finish all levels or die in the game.
The game was created by Gao Dawei to fulfil their childhood dream of having a realm [a world] that they could get a happy family, so everything was made based on their childhood experiences, memories, etc.
Basically the game was made exactly like the real world because of those reasons. That is why nobody realised that they actually stayed inside the game world until the game was completely restored by Ling Jiushi and Ruan Lanzhu.
Ruan Lanzhu was indeed created to assist Ling Jiushi to restore the game, back to its original trial version where there is no violence, gore scene, etc.
Gou Dawei's major when studying abroad was never mentioned. It's only said that he studied abroad.
So after the game is compeletely restored, the game world and the door world are completely erased, disappeared along with the program [Ruan Lanzhu]
Everybody returned to their real life which is really different from their life in the game world without having any memories of their survival journey inside the game world before.
Only Jiushi retained his memories, because he is like the 'technician' of the game, someone who hold the program [Ruan Lanzhu] to restore/delete the game to its original.
After he woke up, the game station owner told him there was the trial version of the spirealm game but then nobody was interesting so the game maker gave up and took it away. [I think the game maker here is Gao Dawei.]
Then Ling Jiushi wanted to recreate the game [create the spiritual realm] because he never belonged to the real world.
He was outcast and bullied since he was a child, even his childhood friend made him the laughing stock on people's mouth.
He wanted to return to the game world where he belomged to, where he could be with his loved ones, with Ruan Lanzhu and Obsidian members.
The ending is not rushed, it is really in-line from beginning to end.
He finally could achieve his dream which is to have his own family even if it is inside the spiritual realm.
This if my understanding after watching it for so many times.
At the end when jiushi meets ruan nanzhu again he is older or younger? because in the last scene he is shown younger…
He returned to his younger self when he met Ruan Lanzhu and the others for the first time.
It happened because he created the Spiritual Realm based on his experience [age] back then so once he entered the realm, he returned to his younger self.
can someone tell me what happened to Li Dong Yuan ? When they came to meet him he was alright ? Then all the stuff…
He blocked the knife for Ling Jiushi before they left the door and died. [He died in the last moment before Jiushi and Wu Qi managed to bring him out.]
After leaving the door, he was actually dying, because when somebody died inside the door, he would die outside the door as well.
He locked them out because he didn't want them to see him died.
I'm really interested in this, but i see the novel and show have quite the difference (especially CD part, which…
I read first few chapters of the novel a year ago then dropped it because it's really scary. My nerve literally can't hold the horror parts 😅
Then I watched the series, and grateful because it has much less horror parts shown.
Then I re-read the novel but still skipped most of the horror parts.
The novel and the series, both are really good.
I would suggest you to watch the series first.
Although you haven't read the novel, the series is much simpler and easy to be followed through.
Actually, the series is quite different from the novel, the characters are made more humane and lots of morale lessons that could be found in our daily life.
As for the MLs relationship, I found the series shows deeper emotion and more characters growth.

She's smart but quite pitiful.
She realised she's dumb for being blinded by stupid love thus becoming a villain.
Now... I'm curious
