I’m behind, watching on Viki.
I have heard many complaints about episode 39. I found it both beautiful and poetic. I have seen Lan Xiang slowly letting her guard down, respect growing and finally love showing over the last few episodes. The looks they gave each other on meeting again and the ‘Wedding night’ - their eyes simply shone with love!

I just keep revisiting my exes!

It’s a difficult situation. If she tells him and she is found out, he becomes complicit. They are opening up to each other, it will happen!

I have been doing a rewatch. Many of the unimportant little details are actually clues to future events.

It’s worth it!

He won’t gain any traction with Lan Xiang until he treats her as a TRUE equal!

No worries, no concubine stuff. FL is just hiding her abilities as self preservation at first. She shows her strength later.

ML is the person FL could have been if she had maintained her life of privilege.
He is relatively kind, smart and generous. Because of his background he feels superior. This makes him feel he can use power to control others.
Only when he breaks out of that mindset and sees everyone, not just his social equals as important, will he be worthy of the FL.

I find this drama is covering ideas that you don’t see in most Cdramas.
They have taken the time to point out that JQ is actually a really good man - for a Master.
He treats his slaves far better than almost anyone. But at the beginning, they are still just slaves - not as important as people within his own social sphere.
You can tell this from early on with the duplicitous brother and sister. The brother literally risked his life to save him, but although they were treated well, they were still not important enough to bring into the ‘Upper Class’. If he didn’t want to marry the sister, he could have found her an equivalent alternative.
With his love for LX, he cared enough to bring her into his social circle, but not enough to treat her as an equal.
I feel the story needs to show how he can learn to be a good person unconditionally. Treating all people, male or female as genuine equals, regardless of background.
His mistakes are to show where he is coming from. Hopefully he can truly learn and become someone worthy of LX.

I feel from her traumatic upbringing, she has always had to be constrained in what she says and does in case she lets her Shen family background slip. It means she can’t just act out when she wants to. Always having to think about the consequence of every action must be really tiring!

She hasn’t really had any reason to fall for him yet. His kindness has always been constrained by his social status. If he keeps being a better person without making his past mistakes, she will eventually fall for him.

Still as good up to episode 32. Here’s hoping it stays that way 🤞😀

Still happens in Western countries. With Domestic Violence, victim blaming as well as turning a blind eye is pretty common
