A lot of these dramas are just seen as a light way to pass the time. I feel he wants us to actually critically evaluate what we are watching and not just accept everything at face value. Maybe I am over thinking this, but it could be a criticism of how we tend to just accept any information given to us without looking at the source and reason behind it.
One of the difficulties with this scene is that it is filmed with such artistry. The cinematography, the acting and direction are sublime. This makes it difficult to process the deeply disturbing nature of the character’s relationship. This creates a cognitive dissonance that makes us feel uncomfortable. I feel the director is an absolutely amazing artist
Why even bring up this trope here of SML falling for her. She is really a married woman. I kind of find it disgusting.
FL is brave, strong, kind and beautiful. It is normal for other men to see her qualities, even if they don’t act on them. This is true in real life too.
Such a clever piece of writing to show that they are slightly unhinged at the beginning, making the audience hope for possible redemption, then showing us the utter rat-bastards that they truly are. I love the way characters are not one layered. Even Mrs Kang had a redemption arc!

This makes our heroes realise that they are not just cannon fodder, and are worth fighting for. You wouldn’t care if they weren’t real within the book if they died.
