Remember the night Xiao Liu tried to used the bug on XL but it didnt work... when a man receive the bug he has to show he is in love with the woman. The first time she tried it on XL he didnt know, so he didnt feel anything at that moment so the bug didnt want to go into him. However, when XY used it on CX he was thinking about her and she was also thinking about him when they were kids. Though the bug went into CX the spell didnt complete because he didnt know Xiao Liu was XY and he had hatred towards Xiao Liu for kidnapping his other cousin. Ofcourse the spell completed with XL because he showed the bug he was in love with her and want the bug to be in him.

I think she does connect the dots about the love bugs, thats why she kept asking XL to remove it because it wasnt appropriate for them to have it. Plus during the 37 years when she was in a comma she felt and heard everything that happened in the shell between her and XL, and some of those nights were very intimate. She blushed when she thought of them near XL. This was the only time she blushed around XL in the novel.
