I can't be the only one who just...isn't into kdramas that much anymore. I mean...Its once in a blue moon thing.…
Probably not as much "catering to Western Market" as the lack of creativity. There've been a handful of dramas this year that are unique with great writing, and that can't be compared to any other drama. But dramas like WLGYT, TAON, and (since I rewatched this yr) MD 1&2 ARE a rare handful. The problem is weeding through all the mediocre, mundane, trope-filled crap and dropping right & left to finally find the best. Personally, I'm bored with a drama before I finish the first episode. SO, many are not into Kdramas like they use to be for several reasons.
Look what I have found (interview):https://youtu.be/QJbRBRGIIzw?feature=sharedOur Moon Baek without long hair…
KNG's small ponytail was cute. Wish it was long enough to twist into a man bun, of which I have a weakness. For long hair or in a bun, he has several saegeuks under his belt and he does deliver.
This show has a different vibe than anything I’ve seen in a long time. Very wholesome without being cheesy it’s…
True, and yes, very wholesome but it was cheesy. Adorably cheesy, and I loved it. The viewer does have to take into account neither the ml or the fl had ever had contact with the opposite sex before their arranged marriage and it was set in 1936. One question: Did they consummate the marriage? I didn't think so.
I haven't started yet. But is he the only 'foreigner' in the drama? If so, it always seems who the locals see…
I'm right past the part where he's killed (Ep 5). I don't see it as negative bc there's already been several deaths. They did cast him, and he accepted the part. Many foreigners (not native Korean) accept small parts to eventually get bigger roles in dramas. Some have had prominant roles then kinda fall off the radar. I check their pages often and it's sad to see nothing new listed. Generally though, it's hard to be cast in any drama if one isn't Korean. Then we have the poorly acted roles from white actors and we wonder why in world they WERE cast. I think it's to make fun of them, in a way. I especially love Itaewon Class, Live Up to Your Name, and Swing Kids. I'm going to rewatch LUTYN soon before it falls off Tubi, one of the free legal streaming sites. EDIT: Ah, I see, further on in Ep 5 an english speaking black man was killed. I was glad to see the actor was cast and had a speaking part, after having watched vids on YT over the years where struggling actors & actresses talk about how hard it is to BE cast.
