I've put this off, it seems like forever, after having watching 3/4 of the 1st episode back in 2018 so I had to start completely over. And I knew right away why I've had it in Hold. Makjang. It feels like the actors were practicing with their best overexagerationed selves in front of someone totally foreign to the concept of what the States call a 'soap opera'. I thought that was confined to the States until I started watching Korean dramas. It was a habit to walk across my familiy's driveway to watch my maternal g'mother's soaps with her Mon -Fridays. I thought actors who 'did' soaps weren't 'real' actors like those in TV series and movies. Then I grew up and realized the craziness of the writing demanded they perform better than 'real' actors just so viewers would believe what they were seeing.
I'd skimmed the comments before this second dive and once certain parts came up that were mentioned I laughed out loud. Usually spoilers are abhored, but in this case, I'm glad I absorbed them. I'm not too happy about the sweetest character being the first to go, our Grand Princess Dowager. The switcharoo in Episode 7 was a shock regardless of spoilers. I was hooked by this Ep and had to make myself turn it off to get regular sleep. As of this, I'm halfway done.
ps. EVERY soap, or makjang, has one character that is so over the top and useless to the strory yet drives one crazy, and the reddish haired idgit is no different.
I believe the abuse from her father came from him being disappointed that she wasn't born a boy. The accomplice…
I recall that, but still a stronger reason could've been applied. But I guess with human nature, not having to take much to do a dirty deed or be violent, the viewer really has to go along with what was written and not think too deeply on it.
"The number one reason I watched this film was for Zo In Sung. He works infrequently and I enjoy his acting. It feels like he’s played this character before, but he does it so well, that I’m okay with it." EXACTLY. Oh, and in this he reminded me of him in 'Mogadishu'.
The issue is not the call, but who is making it. The fact that a government agency can dictate what image to project…
yisunsin, I agree this isn't unusual for China. However, what's driving the debate in the comments is the fact that it's apparent many viewers don't know or understand what system of government the Chinese live under. There are very few countries that are authoritarian or ruled by dictatorship, less are considered communist.
***China is a unitary, one-party socialist system led by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which exercises supreme authority over all state, military, and legal bodies. Xi Jinping currently holds the top positions of General Secretary (party), President (state), and Chairman of the Central Military Commission (military).*** I had to look up the last bit so I'd get it correctly.
Viewers might think being able to view Chinese dramas means the country is basically like their own, and is actually ironic since a Chinese citizen CAN watch other countries content, yet to do so they have to use a VPN, with foreign content coming into China censored, blocked, or restricted.
Sad to read few comments addressing the nature of the China government in regards to this article. Thank you for yours.
I absolutely loved the drama, and I agree with "Going to be an unpopular opinion, Li Wen Xiu felt like a character copied and pasted from a high school or college romcom Cdrama. My least favorite Cdrama FL stereotype---described as clumsy, stupid, bad at math, lazy with homework, but creative. Apparently, it is not possible to be competent and creative. How many times could she be covered in poop or water? She was also emotionally rash which resulted in dire consequences.". This is the bit that kept me from giving this a 10.
From previous articles it sounded like he disagreed with the NTS decision that it was tax evasion. So now he has…
First response is to deny and hope you know the laws. If anyone knows the tiniest bits of tax law in SK it's the NTS.
The average layperson in any country doesn't know the intricacies, and gets tripped up somewhere before the money is even deposited into their acct. Embezzlement and fraud cases are astronomical in the news. Desperate people don't know the law, and they all think they will be the exception to getting caught.
People who DO risk huge amounts to 'hide' their money so the 'taxman' won't take it also have attorneys on hand who specialize in the different tax areas, such as Inheritance (Estate) or Corp Tax bc no one man knoweth every detail of the massive tax rules and regulations that have been put in place to prevent avoiding one of the two things no one can evade, which are death and taxes. They also have criminal attorneys ready for the times something slipped by and got noticed by an audit.
PHS only has one haircut or what? Always the same dark middle part — I don’t think he’s changed his hairstyle…
Good. We could say it shows he's consistent, steadfast, and loyal. People tend to keep the same look yr after yr, not veering too far from their usual when they 'need a change', and then it's women who know hair will grow back (barring a catastrophic illness) who take a plunge after a deep conversation with themselves. Nothing wrong for a man to have the same hairstyle for years. His slight left-of-center part hair looks very healthy.
"the action could be considered instinctive self-defense". It's happened to me several times over the course of my long life and it is instinctual. It's like the arm flung across the passenger when the driver has to stop quickly when in a vehicle.
"However, some expressed concern that knocking the phone away could lead to a counterclaim for property damage. LUDICROUS. Bring on the lawsuits!!!
Love the wording of the headline. To rope in usually refers to persuade, trick, or entice someone into participating in an activity, one they are reluctant to do, or did not originally plan on doing. Not having to do with this article, the last 6 Korean dramas I've watched on Netflix ALL had a character or two smoking, with 1 drama having the lead lool like he smokes by taking the cig out of his mouth right before he lights it. Netflix does push agendas.
I was a little concerned about the spoilers below until I finished watching last night. LOTS of Spoilers in the comments didn't hurt. SO disappointed in this.
I have watched first two episodes and loving the vibe...but after going through the comment section, I'm not sure…
I'm trudging through it and just started Ep 7. I haven't read any Reviews or Comments yet, so my use of a certain word is MY opinion only and can't speak for anyone else. The drama is for a night or nights when you have nothing else to watch and provides very little by way of a unique script. I'm not looking for the last 3 1/2 episodes to persuade me to see it in a dif light when the first 6 3/4 couldn't. I'll finish it just to finish it.
This would've been a great movie about first love IF it had stopped at the end of Ep 2.
"repairing phones and secretly copying their files for your own purposes." Had this happen while setting up a new phone from my old, and added an app to download my info every week. I didn't realize what had happened until months later. Tech said it was an old trick to embed a hidden app masked by the 'setup process'. Never let someone else, whether a sales rep or not, have your phone for an extended amount of time.
The /s (sarcasm) meant I was teasing you for such a glowing (good) comment. I wouldn't have any interest in watching this if I hadn't read your comment first.
I apologize for using the symbol. When I learn something new I figure everyone else much much younger has known about it for ages, hence me thinking you did know I was being sarcastic.
