As an American, I find it very confusing when two characters look alike and are given very similar names like…
The novel was written years ago who would’ve thought it would ever get a live action adaptation? Literally no one. Changing their surnames now is understandably confusing for long-time fans, but in Chinese, Sheng (盛) and Shen (沈) are two completely different characters with completely different meanings. 盛 (Shèng) means “prosperous/flourishing” with a positive implication, while 沈 (Shěn) means “deep/calm” carrying a more serious vibe. They might sound a bit similar to non-native speakers, but it’s really not that deep. Back then, no one was considering overseas audiences because making something like this wasn’t even an option. And as for the actors, they don’t look alike at all Qiuqiu is so dang CUTE😩😭 while Ocean has a completely different vibe.
I think with the upcoming episodes we'll get more since the core of their story just began they aren't a couple so I don't expect anything from them till they get together, we don't know if they'll change somethings from the novel but yeah it's mostly following the book just a couple scenes added but maybe they'll add more.
