I'm so disappointed that JGS worked with that terrible director. I just hope nothing creepy happened behind the…
You sound like the type of fan who wants to appear to know some dark, behind-the-scenes secrets, but who really doesn't know anything at all for a fact. Isn't it fun to spread rumors about people you don't know just because they're in the public eye?!

Title Intolerance
Nice. Melancholy rather than sad after this watch. The Japanese do the reality of life in shades of gray rather than black/white, which I very much appreciate. I don't know exactly what it was, but something about the film kept me at an arm's length from the suffering and anger of the characters.

It was nice to see Fujiwara Kisetsu in this film as the fisherman's assistant. I know him from the series/movie "His: What Is Love?," a wonderful gay-themed film, also featuring the fascinating shades of gray within which we live. Check it out.

I would agree, but what are you gonna do when it is so baked into the culture as it seems to be in Japan. And…
You are totally oblivious to the arrogance with which you write. I assure you I am PLENTY old to know what I am talking about. You come off as teaching me lessons and knowing it all and I don't care for it.

You AGAIN miss the entire point as far as I am concerned. Ritualized, formalized, kneeling, bowing on the floor, Japanese style domestic abuse has never been a widespread thing in the U.S. Children are expected to kneel there and just take it from the patriarch in a way that you seem to believe is common in the U.S. You are delusional, but I'm not going to try to convince you of the obvious.

The convo went south because of your attitude, arrogance and preachiness. Not hard to understand. I don't take kindly to that bullshit.

Nope. Still won't go googling in search of your silliness. Gosh, domestic abuse in the U.S.? Who knew?! Thing is, I never said there wasnt, but it keeps going over your head.

I get it...you're desperate to assert that such draconian forms of child abuse are baked into American culture too. Well, you're wrong. Next you'll demand I google "Hari-Kari common in united states." Sorry, won't do it.

Every single one of these actors are 24 and over...Some of which may actually be doctors - considering Thailand…
I did not say there was no audience for it. I said I don't like it in a BL because they can't do it justice and it comes off silly.

I don't care how old the actors really are, it's a matter of how old they appear to be, plus the fact there are no older actors in the cast to make things feel real. Given the schooling that goes into becoming a doctor, even in Thailand, most don't begin fully practicing until their mid-30s, a long way from 24. Finally, maybe your guess is correct, but I can't imagine a good doctor also taking the time to be a good professional actor or vice-versa. Both are all-consuming careers.

Perhaps there are some Thai actor-bio geneticists, actor-astronauts as well!

I specifically mentioned the cultural ritualization of the child/domestic abuse/violence. Please provide readily available research showing that the kneeling and bowing and pleading and groveling as a regular ritual before the patriarch has ever been a standard thing in the U.S. Thanks.

The rest of your comment is all over the place with jabs directed at statements I never made. I was referring in my comment to the behavior of that specific mother/wife and it could be as sadly similar in Massachusetts as in Tokyo.

I'm not going on google in search of assertions YOU make. That's your job.

The wildest thing was when that bastard pulled the sword out! Was he actually going to kill him? I don't think so, but how bizarre is that? Thing is, yes, beatings and domestic/child abuse goes on everywhere but it appears to be so formalized and ritualized there. The sons kneel in front of the father, a sign of total obeisance, then are first first verbally abused, then almost inevitably physically abused. Again, perhaps I'm being naive, but even in Japan isn't that legally assault and battery of some sort?

And then we have the completely subservient wife standing in the background in the exact same place each time her sons are commanded to make a ritual appearance on their knees before Dad. Maybe her pathetic attempts to protect them when the dad goes too far are also part of the ritual, as if he really wanted to continue beating or actually kill them, she couldn't stop him. I almost laughed when she stood in front of those oddly displayed swords, hands out from each side as though there was really anything she could do to stop psycho-Dad if he wanted to grab one again. By not attempting to intervene each time until AFTER the beatings start she is condoning the whole thing.

It is so weird that women are readily admitted to universities in Japan and are now well-represented in all professions including lawyers, doctors, dentists, etc., but you still have these traditional mothers at home playing groveling housewife in every way. Did you see her take his briefcase and jacket as soon as he walked in the door from work each time he came home? "Thank you for your hard work today, dear..." Something tells me he NEVER thanks her for all her hard work cooking, cleaning, running the house and kissing his ass every day. Sad.

I have to disagree that the degree of severity and formalization of such extreme violence against children in the U.S. "wasn't so long ago," and I don't think it was ever so ritualized. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd have to do a lot of research to find out.

Then we have the issue of EMOTIONAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL abuse that went on in that house every single day, every moment the dad was home. Everyone was a nervous wreck waiting for him to blow his stack, and he never said anything kind or understanding or encouraging to anyone. The level of constant psychological vigilance required to live like that would be exhausting. And of course there's mom, always trying to de-escalate the tension with her little giggles and tittering remarks, like an addled child. I guess it was good she was around and she clearly cared about and supported her sons, BUT in the end she also always enabled the dad.

When the story is this bad, who cares? I'd rather have a good story, well-told with bad cinematography.
I haven't watched a full episode for three weeks at least, as the main couple bores me to tears, story AND acting. So I have been FFing through looking for scenes containing the two side couples, whose stories are compelling, but ep. 11 had almost nothing about them. BLs should not be tackling things like basketball as a central element unless they are going to spend the money for top-notch sports consultants, coaches and sufficient training for the actors. All of the basketball scenes are terrible because there is no one there who is actually good at basketball and the ways the scenes are blocked, shot and edited in woefully insufficient to cover up that fact.

So I would say the story may be great, but who knows? it is so poorly directed, acted, blocked, shot, edited and whatever that it doesn't matter because I ran screaming from it. Maybe if someone else remade the same story it would be awesome. Who knows? I just know this version is awful.

It is highly unrealistic that any coaches or officials would put up with these guys fighting out their love issues on the court, as they take their sweet time doing with long staring contests, longing gazes and all other types of silliness.

Oh, one caveat: The film seemed to end abruptly, like someone just turned the lights off randomly and that was it. I don't always need a tight little wrapped-up ending but I felt like, BOOM! it was over. OK then...

That was a packed cast, for sure, and the music was great. I loved learning about the band and seeing the backstory.…
I would agree, but what are you gonna do when it is so baked into the culture as it seems to be in Japan. And I am an ignorant American judging only from films, but my god there's an awful lot of outright beatings that go on if they are a reflection of reality. I was hoping the older brother would wallop that fucker right in the nose. Thing is, I'm sure this is the way the father was raised, but you'd think some of these assholes would have the heart to realize repeating fucked-up shit is not a good way to go.

Being an ignorant American, I had never heard of GreeeN until now but I'm glad I have. I enjoyed this film very much. Hated the dad. Didn't even realize til more than halfway thru that the doc at the hospital and the monster at home were the same person. Night and day.

Matsuzaka Tori's way with a pair of black pants made it difficult for me to focus on the plot but I did my best. lol I am not familiar with him but will remedy that situation immediately. Fine actor. As for Suda Masaki, once again he delights and amazes. I really do think he is a collection of particles of light in human form, sent to this Earth to spread joy amongst humanity with his angelic presence and gritty charisma. There is clearly nothing he cannot do as an entertainer. I love watching him onscreen just for who he is and what he brings, but he is also a very talented actor who is entirely whatever character he is portraying. He frequently brings tears to my eyes with seemingly minor or small things such as the humble/real/heartfelt emotion with which he apologized to his GreeeN fellows and asked to come back. The japanese are maybe the most emotionally restricted culture I've encountered, but nobody does apologies more beautifully than do they.

The relatively smooth grace with which the older brother made the necessary mental/emotional adjustment necessary to assume a role in life he had not previously imagined was beautiful. That is something I will be thinking about in my own life the next few days.

This is yet another Asian flick sitting in my to-watch list for ages that I kept putting off. When will I ever learn? I am much more likely to be surprised by and love something that gives me pause for whatever reason when it comes to Asian cinema. This flick was so much more than I anticipated from the poster. I really need to ignore posters; they are so often a complete failure at conveying the essence of a film.

Bravo to Suda a crew once again. 8.5/10

OK. In that case if such a sequel were ever made it would be a good idea for you not to waste your valuable time by going to see it.

Disgusting, but not in an entertaining or original way. I was quickly bored. The overarching feeling I got was "OK, this terribly overrated director is once again simply trying to top himself with the usual gore and splatter elements he loves to play with, but so what? OK, he's got some dude hanging from the ceiling from about 20 meathooks jabbed into his back. So what? Oh...this woman's being viciously raped while having her face beaten in, who cares? Oh, this guy blows smoke out of the knife scar/slits in the sides of his face? Yawn. So how does he eat or drink with those holes in his cheeks? Don't know. Bored, so I'm checking out early.

The most appalling obscenity of all is that Miike Takashi keeps getting funding for his trash and churning it out by the dozens. People are so gullible.

Me either, Maggi. Actually though, while disappointed, this flop ep gave me the time I needed to finish a work project I should have been doing in the first place rather than watching bad Boys Love shows. lol :)

It is extremely fashionable and trendy for the SJW crowd to come out of the woodwork with their code words from the SJW Playbook: "toxic," "unhealthy," "offensive," "problematic," "privilege," "rape," "sexual assault," "consent/nonconsent(noncon)," "racist," "sexist," "homophobe," "homophobic," "mysoginist," "representation," "inclusion," "victim-blaming," "slut-shaming," "fat-shaming," "body positivity," "safe space," applying the terms with arrogance and condescension. All of the terms above refer to actual things when properly used. The problem with SJWs is that they apply the terms so loosely and so frequently that they are losing their power and meaning. When a surprise peck on the cheek becomes "sexual assault," things are out of balance.

Wow, this ep was heavy, and I like that we had an episode dedicated to the whole transition and turning point…
I disagree 100%. Episode was terrible. All ThornFah scenes, especially the basketball ones, are amateurish and the acting is lame. Their story is uninteresting. Almost nothing about VeeDome and the other SC. Weird show.
