I would like to point out that Shanggu did something similar to Bai Jue, and that was to prevent him from seeing her sacrifice during the first Tribulation of Chaos in E15. She not only took back the Feather of Chaos, but also knocked him out, and set some sort of barrier where he couldn't initially get through when he woke up. Only with the help of his spear, a few times was he able to break through and go to where she was sacrificing herself. Granted she didn't have enough time to think of a more detailed plan as Bai Jue did, but still similar intentions and that was not to let your love one see you disappear.
In my opinion, he is probably more pitiful and suffers the most out of the two. Not only did he see Shanggu "disappear" in front of him, he now must come up with a master plan to ensure that Shanggu doesn't fall into the same situation as he did. To do that, he's willing to be blamed, misjudged, misunderstood, and hated for all eternity if needed. 😢

I believe it's been brought up before, but to me Qingmu is an extension of Baijue and Houchi is an extension of Shanggu. They are the same, just with different roles and responsibilities.

I don't doubt that there will be people who will think negative of Bai Jue. I just hope there will be healthy discussion to express different perspective rather than just giving excuses of "he can't act" or "drama will be better rated if he wasn't the ML".

I was actually reading your translations on Youtube on the preview of E48. With the added context that you've provided, we see how her words CLEARLY hurt him. It's all written on his face! I'm sure she's saying those words because she herself is hurt by his actions and probably that's the only way she can lash out at him without doing any physical harm to him.
I actually feel sad for Bai Jue, as you mentioned he really has no emotional support system other than Tianqi. But that wasn't until much later in his plans. He couldn't disclose any of his thoughts or feelings to anyone; no Hongri, no Jingjian. Imagine living tens of thousands of years without being able to express your emotions. As Qingmu, it was hard enough for him to wait for Houchi, and that was only 100 years (actually less considering the events). Imagine being Bai Jue! 😢

I think we've had discussions regarding how I have similar thoughts as you in regards to Bai Jue's plans and his emotions. Bai Jue is a character with many burdens on his shoulders, trying to put into motion his master plan of saving the person he loves and the Three Realms that she holds dear. For some viewers, his actions may seem selfish and cold. But his actions are shown in this saying: "You've got to be cruel to be kind." You can’t deny the pain and sorrow he's feeling because it's clearly written on his face. This is the extent he would go through to ensure Shanggu's well-being. You've covered most of the points when looking at his perspective. 😊
Btw, your well-written responses are always great to read. It reminds me of a poster from The Long Ballad page. She always has these well-written responses/analyses to comments/questions on the page.
