It was based on Real History of King Jeongjo and his consort Uibin Seong. The drama had the same ending as History. In ep 17, their son little Crown Prince died with measles. Uibin died from sadness while Pregnant.

I fell in love with Junho in 'The Red Sleeve' . With that expectation ,I watched 'King The Land' & the drama fell short in many ways in my first watch. Part of the reason might be I had been a drama fan since 2005 & familiar with all drama cliches.
But recently, I have tried the drama under my cloudy moments again, the drama wasn't that bad. It can make you happy with its laugh out loud moments. It is the perfect Cotton Candy when you have a Sugar Craving. Drama watching under different moods can give you different experiences .
The positive side is there is no stupid noble idiocy in the last second, our couple is helpful to each other, his family is ass ,but no real obstacle to their relationship.It is a silly Rom Com with a Silly plot, but the actors fully embrace it. (I mean if you wanna watch good serious acting,for Junho, watch 'The Red Sleeve' He won a PD award, Baeksang Best Actor and Daesang for it , or 'Rain or Shine' . Watch 'Miracle' for Yoona.) RomComs have almost always been Silly. Look at my oldest Rom Com 'My Girl' for example.
The negative side is lots of old drama fans like me will find lots of cliches. If you don't like cliches or Silly ,better skip the drama.
It is the type of drama you love it or hate its vibe, there is no between.
Guwon is one of the Greenest Male Leads if you come to know him along the drama. Out of Junho's characters, Won is the Green Flag, YiSan is the Red Flag, Kang Doo is the Tsudere .
