HL is from the POV of Sang Yan's little sister. Sang Yan to everyone else is an idol/god, aloof, grim reaper, with a biting sarcasm and high IQ. The man works for a firm for fun...he doesn't need that job...he just likes to work his brain.(hoping they keep this in the live action drama) He is cool without really trying, because he doesn't really care what people think. AKA the man has big D energy.

Sany Yan is "looks like he would kill you, would kill you" in YiFan's world. He is only soft to those he loves and trusts. Which is why HL Sang Yan is more humorous and comical. You're only seeing him with his sister and close friends...not the girl he's hopelessly in love with who ghosted him when they were teenagers.

After watching HL I read the novel it was based on and TFF novel and realized TFF is much more popular and for good reason. If you've read the novels of both you can see that the siblings see each other differently then how they are perceived by others and their own internal thoughts. Because they are siblings...duh. Words used to describe Sang Yan in TFF aloof, idol/god, grim reaper, cutting, calculating, mischievous, sarcastic etc. They never really showed how smart Sang Yan was in HL...he's a business owner and he works as a manager(higher up) in a firm for fun.

Knowing how people outside of Sang Zhi see Sang Yan it was extremely important that the actor playing him can show a wide range including romantic chemistry. Victor Ma said himself that he wasn't sure he could pull that off. He's perfectly fine with doing supporting roles, but playing a lead is a different ballgame.

Also, the leads of HL are extremely booked and busy. HL was a passion project for Lusi and it shows on screen. TFF has a completely different tone and vibe than HL.
Where HL is mainly fluff and just the distant backstory of ML's father...TFF is focused on the FL's very traumatizing teen years and how that has had a lasting effect on her and those around her ie Sang Yan.

The only way they were going to get the same cast for both shows was if they had filmed them at the same time as the stories are parallel to one another.

Just finished filming so up next editing/post production, getting approval from the censorship board, getting a license to broadcast and finding the finalized spot in Youku's lineup to air. Depending on what demo they want to hit will also determine when they air it. So it could be anything from 6 months to a year or more. They will most likely want to air this in summer time like they did Hidden Love.

I hope viki gets it cause they have better subtitles, but I'll most likely be watching it on a completely different site the first time anyway.

PWX and LC are about to be a bit busy with people trying to kill LC and LR.

Meeting Qin Zhenzhen early before they were both trapped in the palace changed his whole trajectory. He realized that he would never actually be able to protect the people he cared about if he was Emperor. There would always be people ready and willing to kill the people he cares about most. He no longer wanted to be on the board to play the game.

As of right now both Qin siblings are on the run after being betrayed. I still am shocked by that betrayal tbh. Maybe because we didn't spend much time with them to see that dynamic in it's entirety.

I think everyone would agree that SRQ needs to take a long walk off a short pier...preferably with full pockets.

Dude has been on my last nerve since episode 1. I just don't understand whomever is in charge of adapting the source material...why do they keep changing the actual characterization of multiple characters just to get their SRQ redemption arch? Even as a non-novel reader I've hated the character from the get go. So why would they not only piss off the novel readers, but also people who knew nothing of the source material before starting the show?

I'm not trying to shade the actor when I say this but it is going to sound harsh as all hell....If they wanted the gen pop to love this SRQ character they should have cast someone else...sickly Victoria man child just doesn't do it for me. I've said this repeatedly in the comments...but he is giving Wormtongue...and the story the producers are letting happen is the equivalent of Wormtongue being written to deserve a true shot at Éowyn's hand.

The styling him in white all the time only reminds me of Saruman and how evil he was. Sorry for all the LoTR references, but I rewatched it recently and just can't unsee certain parallels.

Coming back to say thank you for the recommendation. loved it & got to see that I was right in never judging a still image of an actor...cause he has the charisma & chemistry.

Just finished this one for the first time. You can definitely tell that Covid played a large part in how the drama played out in some ways. I liked most of the animated edits to get around larger action sequences. The fact the leads had to work around kissing scenes as they were in other productions at the time became obvious. Only the supporting 3rd couple had kissing scenes in this one for anyone wondering.
I'm not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed in the ending. We got less than a minute of the leads at peace, and I just feel like that's a shame...they weren't even in the same shot...like...what? I realize it was more than just a romance, but sometimes I just like a good HEA ya know.

I just realized why it was bothering me so much. He sounds like the little turtle alien in My Girlfriend is an Alien...yall...I can't...

I'm almost done...midway through episode 44, and oh boy do I wish the Crown Prince would find an untimely end. Kid needs to grown up or shut up. Also doesn't help that whomever is dubbing him just...yeah. It's either a woman changing their voice to sound like a young boy or idk. It just isn't doing it for me dubbingwise and he is so freaking dumb and oblivious that he honestly deserves to die at this point save the nation the headache of having him as ruler one day. Easily manipulated and quick to temper. Seriously everyone else we've met in this family is either extremely smart or extremely empathetic...he has no brains and trusts the first stranger he meets without any caution and just tells him who he is and brings him into his intimate circle. Yong An trusts people easily too, but at least she has a heart and willingness to lower herself.

Okay, Long Ballad it is cause...Leo and Reba. I've had that on my to be watched list forever and never seem to circle back to watch it. Also I would very much like to avoid trauma if possible.

So the Jade hair pin in the neck of SRH, SRQ's older brother, lover of the Empress, possible murderer of Emperor LC's only love QZZ...I can't remember which family had the Jade pin market...so did he self exit or was he silenced by the person who put him up to something....or did the Emperor kill him himself with an item that belonged to his beloved?

The only thing I see when he's on screen is Wormtongue whispering in King Theoden's ear...like a sickly Victoria child back from the dead. I am sorry to this man, the actor, but like, the producer liking him or not...yall really did not make this man look romantic or attractive in any way. He looks like he's going to keel over at any given moment from a strong wind. Does LR like him because she can take him in a fight and win? He just looks so damn creepy to me.

we are 3 episodes into the 3rd quarter of the show. it's 40 episodes long...20 is half of 40...23 is a little over halfway.

Well I think that the older brother, SRH, and or Empress had something to do with the death of QZZ. Don't really know what the Su family did exactly but if the older brother was pissed his girl got taken by LC he would want revenge and would join the other noble families in their schemes.
It's mentioned that the Empress was saved by QZZ but not why or how she ended up in the pond/body of water. If they wanted to hurt the emperor they would have gone after QZZ, as she also had a son they would be a threat to the Empress and the crown prince. So if someone in the Su family was directly responsible for the death of the emperor's favorite consort...yeah whole family go bye bye.
I think LC was manipulated by SRQ's actions behind LR's name and he came to distrust his own sister as she grew closer to the noble houses after leaving her husband.
