No harm in comparing and contrasting, like you just did. We can learn a lot that way.
True enough, but I keep seeing it being compared as "good" but not as "great." So it's suffering for airing at the same time. This is happening especially on the Viki reviews where it's gotten much lower viewer numbers. I think it's because it aired at the same time, which is a shame.
"not exactly for young audiences, is it?" Are you for real? Young people, even kids, know and are aware of, SO…
Yea, I am shocked that she's talking about "violence." I thought she only meant that the episode should've included a bit about the mother discussing the fight with the boys, since this would've happened in real life. I mean, moms usually discuss their kids fights a little bit in real life. They will ask, "What were you two fighting about?" which is what she asked in the manwha. But there is not enough time to do this in a 20 minute manwha. I thought that was what his girl meant. But man, it's more that she's being an SJW.
I never read a Manwha in my life, and only read this one to see what Manhwa's were about because I studied literature and wanted to understand the appeal. The fact is, Taesung actually was much more violent in the original manwha and did more than force Haebom's wrists against a wall. He forced a couple of kisses. So the show is already tamed down for the SJW's, but it looks like they are still upset. Oh well. They are bound to complain. But this girl is in the minority, most are not complaining , which is cool.
Episode 5 was strong, but at the end it was resulte too fast, They are both good actors so I was even holding…
I think it's because these Korean shows are too short, and that at 20 minutes per episode, at 8 episodes, there is simply not enough time to resolve these plot points. I read the manwha and they are being very faithful to it and including every plot point from the manwha.
But there is simply not enough time to include both all the plot points, and to flesh them out by doing things like having the mother sit the kids down to have a conversation about what just happened with the violent struggle she'd just witnessed. To do so, they really need to expand the time of the show to be longer than 20 minutes per episode.
The Thai shows are too long with 14 episodes at 45 minutes each that are stuffed with filler. Meanwhile, the Korean shows are so short that we feel as if serious subject matter is being skipped over. Thus, the Korean shows need to be lengthened.
It's inevitable that Cherry Blossoms After Winter would be compared to Semantic Error since they're both Korean BL's airing at the same time. But it's not exactly wise. Because these two shows have such dramatically different goals. Semantic Error was designed to crackle with energy and humor. Cherry Blossoms, however, was designed to evoke a gentle, tender air. Both shows achieved the goal for which they were designed and are, therefore, a success.
And Cherry Blossoms just keeps getting better and better with each episode. Today's was amazing with that dream sequence! So I wish people would simply point out what a success Cherry Blossoms is instead of always bringing up Semantic Error.

The guy playing Thorn is ok, but the one playing Fah is not a good actor, as you said. He is very stiff and it's stunning they even cast someone this uncomfortable in front of the camera.

Yep, especially when the other 4 are the only reason anyone is even watching at this point. Let's face it. Dome/Vee and Saen/Aii stole this show. Yet this episode did not have one minute of them. They should get their own spin-off series cuz I hear that all the social media attention is on them, not the lead characters, who are dull.
I am only on episode 2 and we've already got the old requisite BL trope of the slip-and-fall accidental kiss. What would a BL be without the old slip & fall? At least this slip & fall was a bit more scenic with the rose petals in the bathtub. But it's still cliched slip & fall. I wish they would stop doing this. Just have the characters become slowly attracted to each other, get closer and closer, and then, dammit kiss. But stop the slip & falls!
The Thai BL's do it so much that audiences are laughing at them when they happen rather than finding them romantic. And it's only Thai BL's that do it. No Japanese or Korean BL's do the slip & fall.
I knew they'd work things out as they've always done, but still this episode felt a little bit off to me. I know…
I agree. The tone has completely changed. They have suddenly put all the emphasis on the court instead of the human drama. It had been about the characters who just happened to be ball players. It was part of them, but not all of who they were. Now it's ALL about the game itself, and the characters seem more secondary to the game. The emphasis has shifted.
Since I started to fast forward all the dull Thorn/Fah scenes episodes ago and only come to see the heat with Dome/Vee and the adorable Saen/Aii, I had to fast forward this entire episode. It was all Thorn/Fah, who are the dullest characters with the least compelling story line. The producers made a major mistake with this show when they chose to focus on them. I know they are being faithful to the book but they still should have noticed while shooting the show that the Fah/Thorn romance had no heat while the 2 other romances did. Seriously, I did not watch a minute of this episode because as I surfed through it was all that dull couple playing ball. I'll tune in again next week hoping to see the good couples, Dome/Vee and Saen/Aii. Otherwise, this show is getting weaker and weaker as it goes on.
ugh. What a horrible episode. I could just not care any less about the MC. They are so boring, the acting is so…
Seriously, I fast forward through Thorn/Fah, which meant I had to fast forward this entire episode. There was no Dorm/Vee or Sean/Aii in this episode so I did not watch any of it. I know they wanted to be faithful to the book, but with the actor playing Fah, they should have known they had a dud. And with the heat of Dorm/Vee they should have known to play that up. It's gotten stunningly dull after such a good start. I did not watch a minute of episode 11.
I feel that the floral shop is probably set by the scriptwriter as a separate space for Haebom to think, feel…
That's an excellent point. In the manwha he goes to the library to escape pressure at home. He'll probably go the flower shop in the show It would be a better setting for action than a library where he'd be alone and it's quiet. You can't do a live action scene in a library, so I think you are right and that it will happen at the flower shop where he can talk to the owner. Thx!
And he's keeping the flower shop a secret. He told his brother that he was at the library. What's with the need…
You know, I never put together that he was not really at the library but at work. This is not really made that clear in the show. It's only clear if we assume no kid would be at a library all day long from early morning till nightfall on a Saturday. But thanks for telling me this, cuz I rewatched the series and still missed this part. Thx!
Ep 4 was cute, the actors are good, I just didn't understand why suddenly he likes him, because in the first episode…
He explained it to his friend when they went camping. He said he had to ignore him to hide his feelings. Korea is still pretty homophobic so one would repress their same sex attraction and end up avoiding a man they were attracted to. That made sense . I just don't get how none of the friends knew they lived together for so long. That's the same in the manwha too
Maybe because he is feeling indebted? Or feeling like a burdensome or something like this? The first thought I…
It's the right job for him, that's for sure. I mean, he is so sweet that as flower shop fits. And I guess he's trying to make $ to be less of a burden. But with so little time per episode I still think they could've just alluded to a part time job. These Korean shows are all too short.
I love this show and I'm impressed by how it evokes a mood of gentle, tenderness, and how there is that age old scenario of "opposites attract" with a strong, masculine boy and a tiny, timid boy. I love how the strong one yearns to protect the small one. He is attracted to Haeboom's innocence, which is so pure it's almost like that quality the Catholics call "grace." And that actor was beautifully cast not only because of his performance, but his physical features such as his tiny size and sweet voice.
I know some are complaining about scenes feeling disjointed. But that's because it is staying too faithful to the manwha. For instance, in the manwha, Haeboom walks in on Taesung taking a shower, worries he's being overly familiar, and that's that. So the show plays it the same way. The manwha is a series of set pieces so the show unfolds this way too. They are doing their best to give it some continuity by creating one overall mood, which is a soft, tender mood.
The only thing that baffles me is the floral shop. That was added from the manwha and makes NO sense. They added the camping scene too (the camping and the florist are the only changes), but that was to get all the characters into one place at one time to hash out some plot points, so it made sense. So the camping scene worked, but the floral shop scenes are pure filler. And when a show is only 20 minutes, one cannot afford to have filler. Does anyone even have a theory as to why the heck they put in that bit with the florist?
NGL as much as I like this series there seems to be a lack of connection between scenes and just random pieces…
That's because it happens this way in the manwha. I wish they would be less faithful actually. Everyone complains when they change things , but sometimes it's better to change things. The manhwha is just a series of set pieces rather than one flowing story with a set beginning, climax, and resolution.
Once again people bully someone for all types of reasons so that isn’t far fetched to me. Other aspects of the…
Oh, ok you mean the number of years that Taesung did not defend him from the bullies. I thought you meant the number of years that he had a crush on Heaboom and you wanted to know why he did not defend Haeboom earlier. As for the bullies, Taesung did not defend him earlier cuz he was never in his class before and simply never knew about it. Haeboom doesn't want their mother to know about it and even pretended they were his "friends" to Taesung. That makes sense to me cuz they were in different classes. What does not make sense is how Taesung could have kept a secret crush for so many years, without at least having a close relationship. That's a bigger issue for me. Otherwise, I really like that show.

How do you know it was 3 years? I was wondering how long he'd ignored him and thought maybe he got the crush around puberty and since he's 18 now as a senior it would be about 4-5 years, but did it say so anywhere?
This drama keeps getting better and better. I really like the way the story flows, things develops slowly, but…
Well put. I agree 100%. I think even the bully did well in making the most of a small part . I mean, he really made us hate him. He did a lot of obnoxious facial expressions and voice intonations that worked. And Haeboom's voice alone really works. I read the manwha and his being small was vital, so I am glad that cast such a small actor who also happens to be a good actor and projects sweetness. It's not Semantic Error like everyone says, but hey, it's not SUPPOSED to be , which is what they all fail to realize. They are 2 entirely different kinds of shows with different kinds of moods. Each one succeeds in its own way. And I love both of them!
