But isn't it only 8 years that pass between the car accident and them meeting again? There was this whole thing online with girls talking about the sequel to Addicted and calling it "Eight Years After." But 8 years after 2006 makes only 2014, so it would still be in the past.
WAIT, THIS DRAMA IS SET IN 2006? i really didn't expect it
Yes, they had a New Year's dinner in one ep and the dad welcomed the New Year as 2006. You can also see that they are using old flip-phones. I just cannot figure out WHY it's set in 2006. There haven't been any plot points that indicated that an earlier era is necessary. Everything that is happening could just as well happen today.
I read carefully. As I said before, this whole story is based on the evolution of feelings (ennemis, friends,…
Excellent point. Duo had said that WuBi was worried it was someone he couldn't have. Meaning, of course, he couldn't have him because it would be a same sex love.
this is a good show, bromance or not thats irrelevant. But you can choose to see it as a BL cause there are so…
Yep, there are so many hints that they all add up to the boys being in love. In fact, I just did a list of the "Top 10 Reasons It's a BL" that you can see above.
At this point, it’s pointless to keep telling people it’s BL but in a subtle way, cos if you can’t see the…
I know, at a certain point it became obvious. And that was even before Wu Bi said, "Su Yu is mine." Dang, if you were not sure before, well, this sure as hell nailed it. I don't get how people cannot see the romantic attraction after that line. Nobody says such a thing if they were "just friends"
I read carefully. As I said before, this whole story is based on the evolution of feelings (ennemis, friends,…
I read the novel too. But perhaps that reading had opposing effects on us. You see, because I read the novel I am seeing them in love the same way they were there. You, however, are seeing all the ways that they are not behaving as they did in the novel. Both of our reactions to the novel make sense.
11) The Shipper girl...they introduced the shipper character to allow us to see the BL-ing UNFILTERED.😍😅Now…
Totally agree. However, I wanted to list reasons that were things between the boys alone. The shipper girl is the director's way of telling us, "Hey, I wanted the viewer to see that when the boys interact, you should all be seeing them the way this Fujoshi sees them."
and the girl in their school shipping these two is the clear evidence that it is bl . and i believe the book duo…
They've had special contact when resting heads on one's ass. Later they playfully wrestle on the sofa. But it's not rough wrestling as hetero boys do, but soft rolling in each others arms. The girl imagines them touching in ways that they are doing in real life. All that they have not done is kiss --in either her imagination or real life because of China's censorship. The director has them going as far as they can go without alerting censors.
I read carefully. As I said before, this whole story is based on the evolution of feelings (ennemis, friends,…
They do nothing "step it up" as you say because the director cannot do that with censorship in China. So what we're seeing is them going as close to sex as they can without alerting censors.
As for "close brother" as you say, what close brother says, as Wu Bi did, "Su Yu is mine"? That nailed it for most of us.
TOP 10 REASONS THAT THIS IS A BL, NOT A BROMANCE __________________________________________________________________
1) Right after Su Yu told Wu Bi that he can’t be friends with rich people, Wu Bi's dad cut off his allowance. Wu Bi suddenly remembered Su Yu’s words and had an epiphany: “Wait, if dad cuts off my allowance it means I won’t be rich anymore!” Then he got a big, goofy smile on his face cuz he was thrilled by the prospect of being poor if it meant Su Yu would keep him in his world.
2) A couple days later they had that backwards bike ride during which Wu Bi stared directly at Su Yu, because he enjoyed seeing the otherwise reserved Su Yu cutting loose, smiling, laughing and having so much fun. No guy stares at another guy that intently if they are “just friends.”
3) When playing with Duo and holding sparklers, they took a moment to turn and face each other, and then stared into each other’s eyes. Friends don't stare directly into each others eyes.
4) After the dad and Aunt Zou got married Wu Bi was worried about Su Yu’s cramped living situation and, thus, rented the house next door for them. Hence, he was providing real estate to ensure that his partner was provided for. It’s the same as in a hetero marriage wherein the husband feels obligated to provide a home for his new wife.
5) Wu Bi talked to Duo about his “inner torment” because he was in love. The viewer has not seen anybody else in Wu Bi’s life except his immediate family and Su Yu. Thus, we can conclude that Su Yu must be the person with whom he’s in love.
6) When both were reclining on the bed to study, Su Yu rested his head on Wu Bi’s bottom and said he was doing so because it was softer than a pillow. Friends don’t rest their heads on each other’s lower regions regardless of how soft it might be. Su Yu and Wu Bi fell asleep in this position and the next morning Wu Bi awoke first and secretly took a pix of Su Yu sleeping. Friends don’t secretly take pix of each other while sleeping.
7) Wu Bi was furious when he found the "Vixen,” as he called her, in Su Yu’s hotel room because he assumed Su Yu had sex with her. Friends don't get furious when a pal has sex with a girl. To the contrary, they congratulate him. Su Yu, meanwhile, gave profuse explanations and excuses for why the Vixen was there. Friends don't make excuses about having had sex with a girl. To the contrary, they brag about it.
8) Su Yu told the Vixen that he was mad when he had thought that Wu Bi liked her. He then added that he does not care if she likes Wu Bi back or not because it’s not about her. He also said that he did not punch Wu Bi for her sake, but for his own. This all translates to Su Yu saying he was angry and jealous when he had thought that Wu Bi liked her because he wants Wu Bi to like only him, himself.
9) Wu Bi was blatantly jealousy of anyone getting near Su Yu. Hell, he was jealous of the Vixen even before he met her. When he first heard her name at school, he went home and looked her up on social media, the way we all do when we like someone and want to check out our competition. Then he was jealous of Su Yu touching the “girl” at the mall. He even chastised Su Yu, saying, “You want to tell me why you were flirting with some girl?” And Su Yu, for his part, didn't find Wu Bi’s jealousy at all out of place. To the contrary, he got why Wu Bi was jealous and then scrambled to explain himself so that Wu Bi wouldn't think he was cheating.
10) Wu Bi had flat-out told the Vixen to stay away from Su Yu because, as he put it, “”Su Yu is mine.” Bam! If nothing else nailed it, this certainly did.
I was thinking only poor Wu Bi hasn’t changed his wish yet…Both Su Yu and Duo Duo changed theirs secretly🤣🤣
Duo changed hers. But Su Yu was even sneakier because he did not dig up the box up to change his wish. Instead, he just wanted to peek at Wu Bi's wish! lol.
As a third generation chinese diaspora from Malaysia who could read, write and speak Mandarin and been to China…
Thank you so much for this thoughtful explanation. But I have one question -- when the Chinese govt mandated that all shows and movies be in Mandarin, did they want it to be free of the sort of accents you mention? Because I read something by a Chinese voice actor who said he gets lots of work because so many of the actors speak Mandarin with a heavy accent.
I thought of how American News Anchors are trained to speak English in a way that has no trace of any of our regional accents, and assumed this Chinese voice actor did dubbing because he spoke Mandarin in the same accent-free way.
I was thinking about this too. The three of them buried the box during the New Year holiday, so I think Wu Bi's…
Thank you. That all makes sense. I had a feeling that Wu Bi's wish related to Su Yu because Su Yu's facial expression showed that he was touched on reading it. Then he immediately rejected the bitch in the next scene.
But I was not sure because Su Yu told Wu Bi that he came around based on something Duo had said. I figured he meant when Duo told him that Wu Bi was "suffering over someone he loved." I couldn't put that together with the wish.
Now, however, I think I got it: Maybe he read Wu Bi's wish about spending every holiday with him and that this, by extension, confirmed what Duo said about Wu Bi suffering for love -- and he figured out that the love is him, himself. That would connect the wish to what Duo had said.
As for "close brother" as you say, what close brother says, as Wu Bi did, "Su Yu is mine"? That nailed it for most of us.
