SK is number #1 in suicides. I think they still stigmatize mentally ill people who, therefore, do not seek treatment. The taboo over it is too extreme to admit it. Hence, people just get worse and kill themselves. Look at how many idols keep killing themselves in SK. Over 30 in the past decade alone.

It had a stellar opening 2 eps, and began to unravel after that. A couple of us think so, but many are afraid to say so on a public post. When I said it I got attacked by rabid fans.

That's an excellent point about her giving Ji Hyun enough credit to take him seriously as a love rival. She was the only one in the whole cast whose gaydar was attuned to what was going on. The rest were still asking, "Why did they go on a trip to the beach alone anyway?" LOL. I also agree that she ticks all the right boxes for an heir to a rich family who's expected to marry and carry on the name. And from what we heard of the dad yelling at him, they run a tight ship. Now, I still wish the narrative had stuck with his deceased brother and maybe showed us the family and that angry father who smashed his little brother's camera. As it stands, the angry dad and mom are just voices heard off camera or in texts. I would've preferred staying with a bereaved family as the conflict instead of adding the drowning, the disciplinary hearing and then, yikes, the break up. Well, he went through a pretty severe gay panic after the first kiss, so I see it as him fearing gayness. Maybe not in his own heart, but at least vis-a-vis his family and awful friends. Korea is still pretty homophobic and behind other Asian countries such as Taiwan and Japan with gay rights

I think he's protecting himself too. After all, he's only ever seen himself as hetero, had a pretty, traditional girlfriend, and comes from a rich, important family that expects him to marry and carry on their name. That all speaks to him panicking over a gay love.

Thanks! I also watch a lot of Asian cinema in general. And certainly not "fluff" as commenters here accused me of wanting. For example, I just watched a Japanese version of the Russian existential novel "The Brothers Karamazov." I am an English Professor and, hence, read a lot. So it's odd to be accused of wanting fluff, or worse, just sex and kissing scenes! Ugh. I could pull up gay porn if I wanted to see gay sex. What I want is for the show to choose one conflict and then focus on it. The dead brother, the drowning or a break up. But not all 3! The dead brother would've been the best choice. I liked how the shrink discussed anti-depressants cuz Koreans still stigmatize mental illness and portrayals in media help to destigmatize it.

I don't even get how it's for Ji Hyun's sake. Other BL's did this and it made no sense in them either. Love Class had the guy take off so as not to hurt his beloved, thereby hurting him 10 times as much. WhyRU had Tutor ghost Fighter for his own good, also hurting him 10 times as much. This plot point never works because the logic is not cohesive. Surely a person can see that their beloved is 10 times as hurt????

Agreed, it's such a BL cliched trope to break up the leads. But it usually happens in the sequel -- eg To My Star2. Although WhyRU did it exactly like this show in season one after a hot and heavy trip to the beach.

Bingo. I said the same below and was attacked for it. I think the show should have chosen one external plot point -- eg, the dead brother -- and focused. Instead, it's piling them up with a dead brother, a drowning and now a break up and not focusing on any of them. Moreover, we haven't even seen how the 2 boys would negotiate the terms of their new relationship after they hooked up in ep 6, and yet they are already broken up by ep 7?
