Yep, they think viewers will be satisfied as long as there's a deep kiss and some sex. They don't give us enough credit. Frankly, I found more chemistry in a censored Chinese BL like "Precise Shot" than in some of these Thai BL's with sex scenes. The Thais simply make too many for them to be focused on quality. I said it above but I'll say it again, they make 50+ a year, ie, one a week. Like you, I rarely ever finish a Thai BL. Or I'll fast forward thru for a good side couple (side couples are always better, lol).

Yes, ratings here are low. They are really low in IMDB, where anything over a 6 is good. Meanwhile ratings are overly high on Viki. You have to keep all this in mind when looking at ratings and deciding what to watch.

That's a good point about one's age. At 55 I am very old for a BL fan; the demographic is women from 15 to 25. So the Thai BL's might be pitched to a younger fanbase than me.

Yo, the rating is climbing as the week goes on from an 8.0 to an 8.1 and now an 8.3. Usually ratings go down, so it's nice to see this one going up. And for MDL anything over 8 is high.

If Thailand slowed down they could get some good ones. But with 50+ a year they churning out a new BL each week! But occasionally they do slow down and have a winner. For instance, I gotta give it to Moonlight Chicken. I was pleasantly surprised by that. ITSAY was also good. But that was from another studio. GMMTV makes all their BL's now and they just crank them out on an assembly line.

It's as if they go to a local high school, grab some cute boys from math or science class, drag them over to the studio on the day of the shoot and plop them in front of a teleprompter. And the actors still can't read their lines and always pause 10 seconds between each line of dialogue. The Thai BL's also have all those damned product placements. Even the super slick ones like Kinn/Porsche were stuffed with PP's. No other country does that, so I wonder why Thailand can't fund their BL's the way the other countries do.

Man, the Koreans have been killing it with BL's this year. I expect the Japanese to do great ones because, after all, the genre began in Japan. But I gotta say, the Koreans are giving Japan a run for their money. And lagging in last place is Thailand. Compare your average Thai BL to Eighth Sense and Thai BL's cliches and bad acting will leap out even more. Strange that Thailand does the worst BL's but churns out the most on some BL factory assembly line. Korea has had some stinkers too, but not as consistently as Thailand. And Korea's great ones, like Eighth Sense, compensate for the stinkers. I am all there for whatever Korea has in store for us next. Also hoping we get more long ones like Eighth Sense -- 10 eps of 40 minutes each! Yay!

I agree. And that dead fish kiss last week nailed the bad chemistry. I like the side couple better. Actually, I always like side couples better in BL's. I can think of 4 side couples right now that were better than the leading couple.

I thought the same thing when I read this spoiler. Jae Won returning to the girlfriend kills this story for me. I don't know how it will actually be handled in the show, but I already hate it. It says Jae Won does not love Ji Hyun.

The fact that you say he hooks up with his ex again kills it for me. It indicates that Jae Won does not really love Ji Hyun if he's fooling around while the kid is in freaking ICU. I also dislike BL's that go out of their way to show that one guy is really hetero. I loathe the "I'm not really gay, just gay for you." All in all, this plot point of him returning to the ex stinks. Does it play badly in the movie too, or just in my mind?

I think the director put that opening to create a buzz and have us all talking about it. Well, mission accomplished because we're all asking "Did Ji Hyun die?"

But why is he sitting alone on the beach? And do you know why the ambulance siren was on? I mean something happened in those scenes. ?????

I don't think she's aware of a sexual attraction between the guys yet and is just an attention hungry bitch who can't stand seeing Jae Won give somebody else his focus. I loved how in the final beach scene she was yacking away and the instant Jae Won saw Ji Hyung -- bam! -- she became invisible to him as he zoomed 100% of his energy on his beloved. LOL.

Good point about how Ji Hyun is supposed to be the scared one. But I think liking a man is a bigger shock to Jae Won because he just had a girlfriend, which made everyone (including himself) define him as hetero. So he's the one having the gay-panic. It's easier for Ji Huyn to see himself with a man because he's likely had no partners in the past and, thus, his orientation was not already defined.

Speaking of that ex girlfriend, wowza, imagine her head exploding when she finds out she lost Jae Won to the "Freshman whose face annoys her," LOL. I can't wait!

Well, ranking 4th out of the195 countries on this planet is still pretty damn bad. At any rate, they are #1 for plastic surgery. I double checked that. As for that, I had always assumed it would be rich, spoiled Americans, but no, percentage wise it's S. Koreans.

Does anyone have a theory as to why that therapist at the beginning of Ep 1 is bizarrely laughing? First she yells at him and even curses, saying, "For fuck sake just tell me what your problem is, after which she breaks into a maniacal laugh as if she's insane. Then, suddenly, the scene ends and there's no explanation for her bizarre behavior.

What the hell is wrong about my statement? Are you just dead set on saying the word "wrong" repeatedly? I said it was a shorter movie . And it IS a shorter movie in Korea, which is why so many statements were out about it being shorter. Hence, I was not wrong. You need to work on reading comprehension.
