Dear All, I would suggest to stop discussing the issue with the Chinese owned platforms. We knew the stand of the Chinese government in relation to BLs. We are the international audience, a lot of us watch in Rakuten Viki - which has very cheap options for subscribing. Lots of you are in Gagaoola which is excellent for LGBTQ+ related content. The more wave we created the more will affect the actors back there. They are ordinary actors, they have been acting for years in different production tiers. They probably felt tempted by the quick "fame" BLs provide and wanted to be known abroad. Let's support them when they organise fans meeting in other countries which is a great source of income for an actor and enjoy ABO Desire. I am sure Chinese fans will find a way to continue watching and are not so worried as some of you are here.

The government did not take it from the air, were the streaming platforms for reasons that are still not clear. The government could be homophobic, but the Censorship Agency have various grounds why stop productions being aired, excessive violence, obnoxious content, graphic sex. They are also not fond of Armageddon type of narratives/ghosts, it is such a long list in a very controlling Censorship Agency. They have their idea of manhood as well, so they hate k pop groups, they are not allowed to perform in China, Probably most k pop boys are not gay but present themselves as effeminate and/or sell homoerotic fantasies. Famous Taekook, Woosan, etc. It is very multilayer. BLs hit the wrong marks at various point. You cannot deny that BLs are highly sexualised so it is more that one category. During all 1970s in UK, in a democratic country, there was a radical conservative censorship agency and nothing passed, if there was a bit of swearing, hard rock music they hate it all. Hardliner are like that!

Chinese people dont have access to YouTube. They need to change the VPN which is forbidden when you are living in China. Everybody does but it is not allowed. For instance top earning stars only post in their instagram accounts when they are abroad.

How do we know this was stop for being a BL and not for breaking some more general business rules on which the Chinese owned platforms operate? Have you seen any regular mainstream c drama in ALL these platforms at the same time? Iqiyi WeTv Youku. I watch C Dramas on the hundreds what i recall a new series is shown in a combination of max two streaming company being one the original production house. E.g. Mango. i read the annoucement by the sisters they dont t specify.

BLs are forbidden jn China. We knew this. This was expecting to be done behind the back of the goverment agency. It was not going to change anything anyway. Somehow the chinese owned streaming platform got the warning "dont play this game"

I think the producers were too ambitious. Chinese gov office forbids BLs but the company were trying to bypass the rules. This is a Chinese production after all. Only could survive being promoted for international fans through international companies like with other "Chinese" BLs (those who were registered as Taiwanese or Thai productions, despite the actors and productions being entirely Chinese). Iqiyi has a vast collection of Thai BLs i n their international sites, so the genre is allowed as long is not registered as Chinese. Let's also remember that BLs are not representative of the LGBTQ+ community. LGBTQ+ Chinese bloggers in China always express that the government does not have a problem with the community and LGBTQ+ travellers report feeling safer in China than in other countries. Violence against the LGBTQ+ community is almost unheard. The government considered sexual identities and options belonging to the private sphere of the individual. I am not saying things are perfect for the community but remember that in other Asian countries still being gay is a criminal offence, while China it has been legal for decades, before even than in some Western countries.

LGBTQ+ Chinese bloggers in China report that the gov does not have a problem with queer people, but it is very much a private affair. People in China, despite contrary belief abroad, can do pretty much everything they wish as long as does not interfere with the Chinese gov agenda. Let's not confused BLs with LGBTQ+ as well either. LGBTQ+ travellers has reported feel safer in China than in other part of the world. Violence against the community is practically unheard. Chinese gov said it governs for the majority, so the ply of minorities are not always accommodated in that agenda.
