I am totally agree with @IkariFuwa commenting before. It is simply a marketing strategy. It has happened before. Even in Europe and US series, there is the final cut - that follows regulations about timing and others and is show in Cinemas, and the Director cut, the second one has more scenes and is normally streamed.

Actors are aware that they are recorded at every second. They know that the bts will serve to promote the series. Nobody can be recorded against their knowledge in China, and even less to disseminate the content. They are criminal laws to punish this. As my Chinese friends who live in China say: if there is a camera, is fan service. They call it candies, so actors are committed in providing candies to keep the interest of the audience in the new series.

I think it is very personal why we rated it high. I rated 10 and like you found it so hard going the last 10 episodes. Maybe I am not that exigent. For me the balance of my experience was very good. The series moved me very much, ZLH and TXW did a fab job, and I discovered new actors and characters that are in my list of favorite now like Deng Kai as QM. Excellent performance by the secondary cast.

That actors are pretty is such a silly complaint 😂Actors in China are chosen because their looks, precisely the government critique is this. That production companies prefer looks to talent and that they are too beautiful for their roles, but this is across the board. I cannot think of a recent popular Chinese drama that has not had beauties in the main roles. None. All of them the actors look fab. At least here, ZLH is a tall imposing man, sometime I think of Hou Ming Hao (who I like) that he is too fairy like for the roles that are given to him, but certainly I wouldn't think that about ZLH.
This was great until episode 40, where they made a Titanic-style ending and then a multiverse ending this is why…

Some people don't realise that QM and QQ were each other first and only lover. A twisted beginning created by others that will mark their story too.
