On Love's Ambition Oct 21, 2025
I'm up to episode 23 and I'm yet to see any evidence that Shen Hao Ming really loves Xu Yan. As he explanied himself, it benefits his image by having a young, attractive and capable wife by his side (essentially a trophy wife). But in every situation I can remember, he put HIS desires before hers. If a person genuinely loves another person, they want the best for them, prioritising their happiness even if involves sacrificing their own, AND respecting their opinions and wishes. Can anyone point to a scene where Shen Hao Ming actually does any of this, because what I see is an abundance of entitlement, dishonesty and manipulation.
He says to Qiao Lin, "I've tried everything to fix things with Yan", but he HASN'T. He's never once done the single most important thing - which is to sit down and have an honest conversation with Xu Yan.

I'm finding the change in tone of the drama post-breakup quite jarring, almost like they changed writers at this point. Prior to their breakup, the drama had a serious, mature tone which I loved. But now, its becoming quite a different drama, less serious, more silly - even slapstick in places, like what would be expected in a fluffy rom-com. I think this change in tone hasn't done the drama any favours. I realise it comes down to personal taste, but for me, retaining the original mature, adult tone for the entire drama would have resulted in a better and more satisfying drama.
Also, why are drama writers so resistant to writing mature characters capable of actually having an adult conversation? Why do we so often get adult characters who deal with their relationship problems no better than middle school students would? (Having said that, the second couple managed to communicate like adults).
And while I'm having a rant, one of my pet hates in dramas is unearned redemption. Shen Hao Ming's mother showed herself to be a cruel, arrogant bitch. But then she magically becomes nice and its like all her past sins disappear. I haven't finished the drama yet, but if she doesn't sincerely apologist to Xu Yan for her abuse, then I'll be very disappointed.

I'm still struggling to get my brain around the fact that when they first have sex, they basically are having sex with themselves. Maybe I should just turn my brain off.

I've watched every single one of them, from GAP to Only You..Is this the first mainstream Thai GL with a +18 content…
Plenty of others have an 18+ warning.

I don't understand all the rage regarding age gap between the leads.. if i didn't know better i would have thought…
A better example for an icky age gap is https://kisskh.at/18468-bring-it-on-ghost
Kim So Hyun was 16 when she filmed this drama and was romantically paired with Ok Taec Yeon, 10 years her senior.
But personally I'm FAR more bothered by minors being cast in roles involving sexual activity and nudity. I suspect it would be illegal to film today, but ...
1.) In 2000, 16 year old Lee Hyo Jung starred in "Chunhyang", which involved a sex scene requiring her to be partially nude.
2.) In 1996, 15 year old Lee Jung Hyun starred in "A Petal" in which her character was raped twice and also involved a bathing scene which required her to be fully nude and fully exposed for an extended period of time.

How do you suggest it done better?
If by "it" you mean courtroom and mediation scenes, I think they would be better if they more closely resemble actual court proceedings. No competent Judge is going to just sit back and watch their courtroom be turned into a circus as these Judges often did. Real Judges will maintain discipline in their courtroom, and take appropriate action if anyone behaves inappropriately.

Was it good? Where to watch?
I don't sorry. I haven't finished watched the series yet. There are aps you can use to identify a song being played (e.g. Shazam). Even Google Assistant has this feature as does Siri for Apple users.

Was it good? Where to watch?
I enjoyed it. It's a short, very cute and easy watch. There's no skinship to speak of, which is understandable considering how young the actresses were at the time. Here it is: https://youtu.be/g40fx3vnUBw

I agree this story need 24 episodes max, I felt they kinda stretched it without sauce.
Can I ask what the censors didn't like?

A well made, enjoyable series. I'd put it in the top three or four Thai GL's I've watched, in terms of quality.…
I don't think they got the ending right. I am actually confused as to the status of Pure and Loft's relationship over the last 2 years. Did they break up? Were they still together and just taking a break? Were they still together during that entire 2 years? I genuinely don't know. Anyway, the final episode was a little bit disappointing for me.

A well made, enjoyable series. I'd put it in the top three or four Thai GL's I've watched, in terms of quality. The intimate scenes were well filmed and a bit sexier than the average Thai GL. An absolutely must watch for any fan of Thai GLs, and even worth the time for general viewers.
My score: 8½/10
One negative comment in the spoiler.

Could I ask for the names of some of your favorites?
The best thing to do is to just check out my list and sort by country. Then see what scores I've given the Chinese dramas. Not all Chinese dramas I've watched are historical fantasy though, but of course you can easily tell just by looking at the drama plot summary.

An enjoyable drama about a love that lasts mulltiple lifetimes. Not the best I've seen in this genre, but certainly entertaining enough to keep my attention for the duration. The sets, costumes and special effects were excellent and the ending was a particularly satisfying conclusion to this epic story.

After watching episode 4, it kinda reminded me of "kill me, heal me". And I really think that's sorta…
Yeah. I dropped "Kill Me, Heal Me" as well. I guess plots like that just don't work for me.

Cute and fun. It gets a bit more serious in the second half, but overall its a very light, easy to watch drama. I do enjoy a good Noona romance, and I especially liked how they leaned into the age difference for some comedic moments. Definitely worth a watch for anyone wanting a short (mostly) fluffy rom-com.
My score: 8/10

Lee Sung Kyung is 35 years old. Ryu Hye Young is 34 years old. I don't think "pedophile" means what you…
So, what about if a woman is older in a relationship, does that mean that she is also a pedophile according to you, or does this only work if the man is older?
