Yup. The novel was boring. I took a break from reading it and picked it up again to finish before the series came out. I’m more a fan of dramas rather than actors so I don’t care about one actor getting more screen time than another. The characters are well flushed out and new additions were utilized well.

Absolutely love how flushed out Mei Si, Lady Liu, and the whole relationship. The characters and relationship are so much better in the series than the novel.

It’s the one thing where their slow burn romance help them get to that point 👏🏼

Daily life with supernatural bc of their identity needing to solve some supernatural disturbance. A slow burn romance. As it progress later on you’ll get more romance and angst.

Slow burn romance, the first 19 episodes is just immersed in the world it created and you get introduced to a lot of characters a look into the main leads background and who they are. So you basically get their daily life sprinkled with the supernatural and solving some mysteries along the way when something disrupts the place and interactions with the characters.

The cousin in the series is a bit more evil than in the novel. In the novel he had powers and had hound dogs that killed ppl. The hound dogs going after zhuyu. I can’t remember the other nuisance in the name jokes but I remember she let him off easy and be on his way and her “joke” payback was turning him onto a rat from a twig. In the series he was evil doing and still let him off easy. He says he’s gonna sit back and watch so we’ll see him again if the series sticks to him giving them the wooden couple figurines.

Absolutely enjoying this series. The essence of all these characters are still retained from the novel. Mei Si the golden retriever that he is ❤️ even the dark serpent has a soft spot for him when he stopped attacking when Si put himself in front of Lady Liu. The openness of the zhuyu and zhen especially Zhuyu in their interest is exhilarating (admitting he wants to marry her to his jealousness and handling of the blind date)… at least for me bc we saw their slow burn. We saw the relationship develop through obstacles and see them learn about each other. They built such a strong foundation for their relationship, and that foundation will be tested once they find out each others identity. We will see if that foundation is strong enough to withstand the impact.

So I it looks like Disney+ releasing in two batches. The first 19 episodes released to day and new episodes on September 7th

It comes out on Disney+ on the 26th. I have a subscription so I’ll be watching it there in all of its high quality glory. People watch from different sites, change their vpn, and there is a YouTube channel that is making it membership only for episodes.

Them fighting together was so satisfying. I need more fighting scenes together

If you watched the episode, the evil cousin lured him into a trap be killed. Arrived and saw the carriage, opened the window and hit with the scent inhaling it. When up against what evil benefactor he tried to use his power and realized that the scent suppressed it. He literally thought it so we see the text of his thought lol

I said it before that this series was grounded and subtle that you really have to watch bc it he development and movements aren’t over the top in your face.

What I LOVE about this series is how grounded it is for its genre. It’s subtle in its develop. It isn’t something that illicit strong emotions where you gush at a moments but rather tugs at your heart. Same with anger or dislike, it isn’t instant but rather a built up if reason to dislike/hate. You see all the characters growth is subtle and not in your face. All that said I can see why some might see it as slow. Pei Ji Ya entrance and character does throw everything I said out the window but I’m okay with it bc it’s shaking everything up 😂 one thing I loved in the novel and still love in the adaptation is the Liu Tai Zhen and the Mei Si and their dynamic

We can’t blame this one on the screenwriter but rather the author of the novel.
