Ppl complaining about the lack of romance but I’m still here for the friendship lol I’m loving the group and seeing their journey. I will say in the novel the romance is slow as well lol like ML realizes first and takes a long time to confess and when he does the FL is still in the friendship mindset and takes her awhile to see him in a romantic way.

I really adore this drama so far. It really is a comfort drama. Seeing all these characters and their individual senses of loneliness slowly coming together and finding a bond and support in each other in their youth. Flash forward it looks like life repeats itself in their adulthood hood a different sense of loneliness. I can’t wait to see how this manifests. I can’t wait to see them together and supporting each other again
Also ppl saying no romance… in their youth where dating or thinking about dating is frowned upon in case of distraction. The love shown in this is a deep bond and connection none of the forward show of romance. Listening to her retrospective voiceovers and seeing the bond forming over time. When they finally see each other again… I wanna cry for them. The school age setting really set the foundation for their adulthood
She chose to stay in the city after graduation to pursue a phd for him and finally she found him. Waiting outside all day and finally sees him and passes out 🥺 and those missing puzzle in that picture of them on the bus
Ppl complained about the school setting but to see the characters individual struggles and growth as well as the obstacles in the journey of this group of friends. Their last gathering on this trip ❤️
In the novel it has the Lin family struggling with money and Zhixia gets back all the money that her mom lent to the uncle’s education. In the drama it touch up on the money struggle but doesn’t get the money from the uncle. In episode 16 it looks like Zhixia mom and some of the other friends parent took advice from Yubai’s mom on investment and from Yubai’s mom reaction over the phone it was a failure. Yubai’s moms reaction but then one of the mom telling Zhixia mom that her kid bought a lot of the stocks… my heart dropped.
If I remember correctly in the novel yubai moves away and gets involved in the family business or something and I just realize with the upcoming episode they switched out his moving away to the family trouble that causes him to leave when she goes to university.The only difference is that in the novel he still kept in touch. The latest episode with the aunt and uncle and the kids staying home for the new year reminds me that overall I think the drama did well in keeping the essence of the novel even with the changes.

It being a youth/coming of age type of drama should’ve given you the hint that it’s not a full fledged high stakes, romance drama lol despite the promotion even the synopsis details their school setting and then at the end a bit about their adult setting. Maybe me being a fan of tian xiwei, I looked up the novel wen she booked the role and followed the production during filming so I knew what the drama is about lol also I just saw the offline promotion with the full cast 👏🏼 with all the school setting all the actors interacted with each other so dynamic between all of them was fun even the actor who played the brother blended in
This drama is just pure wholesome slice of life with these youths. Learning how to make friends, having fun making memories, getting into a little trouble maybe even rebelling sometimes, little ray of light among all the dramas out right now lol These are the moments that sets the foundation for their present day self we will be seeing soon. IQIYI released the new posters and we see it split into three versions of the characters basically walking into adulthood.
Tian said in an older live stream where she talked about what attracted her to the character and it was the sense of loneliness. We see each of their characters have a sense of loneliness in their backstory especially with their parents.. which I think a lot of teens feel a disconnect with them at some stage in their lives. I see ppl want more romance but again it’s a youth/coming of age type drama. While there are romance it’s not all encompassing of the drama

I think Jin baihui is a perfect example of the pressure students in China has when it comes to education. I don’t know about anywhere else but in the U.S. specifically where I live we don’t have self study classes. You see kids in China from morning to night at school bc they have multiple self study classes. Whereas where I live we make our own study schedule outside of school hours

It is female centric drama and she’s playing two roles so she’ll have larger screen time than normal female centric dramas. Ppl can’t even say false advertisement bc the teaser trailer was mainly her and we got little sneak peek of him and it was in context to her. I remember another drama where the actor was listed as main lead and when they watched the drama he was barely in it… or at least not enough to be listed as main lead. So do his fans want equal billing or at least a lead billing and then get disappointed that he didn’t get enough screen time

It’s a youth/coming of age type of drama. We see he FL struggle to interact with her classmates, and establish relationships whether that’s friendship, sibling relationship and of course romantic relationship. We get a little backstory in all the characters and see their growth, not just the main leads. It’s very much an ensemble cast, slice of life drama. So it’s just depends if it’s your type of drama. It is than it’s worth checking out. I know for some they aren’t interest in youth drama so they find it boring
