It becomes obvious when the novel is read, that they wanted to give the series-version ML more "glam" and reduce the light of the other character to make him a second ML... whereas in reality, there's no "2nd", the story is also heavily influenced by Pei Yan, making him an equal ML from the beginning.

Just watched episode 2, is it me, or ML has only one expression on his face? Li Landi's game is good, the dubbing is a bit childish as usual but at least her facial expressions are good and subtle. Xu Zhengxi is, as usual, a treat to watch, between politeness, and surprise, looking a bit shocked by FL's table manners in public whereas he was looking kind in private when she was drinking tea too fast, I loved the contrast, he did it well. It seems there are also some changes from the novel regarding the status of each one and the dialogues , reducing Pei Yan's role (who's already PM) and upping Wei Zhao's (who was a cutie in the court with a minor job)... let's see where would this lead.

It was due to many differences at first (mostly because of his agency) then later on, it has been swept under the rug by saying it was due to his father's declining health. Writing again my comment, since it was taken out for some weird reason. Unlike the trailer, the first episode does set a different tone to the story, there will be more political plots. I was also surprised (in a good way) to see an even distribution between actors, which was unfortunate during the promo, focusing only on the romantic lead. Tencent also flared this as "triangle love" so we still need to see how it's gonna unfold and whether or not they'll follow the storyline.

As I'm more interested by Pei Yan's character played by Xu Zhengi and not fan enough to follow a romance for ML, the first episode gave me satisfaction. Pei Yan (Jeremy) is EATING that screen and I'm loving it! 🤩

It seems his had has been battling dementia for 6 years and in the last two years, it got much worse. That's what he said in his latest announcement. The rest was some lip service for his agency.
