Unfortunately it doesn't look like this one will work for me, I wanted to like it really bad for Shin Min…
Haha yes I agree!! Admittedly I don't like him as an actor but I do try to give dramas and actors a fair chance because I never blacklist anyone and I prioritize the writing over anything else. In this case however the plot is unfortunately not "phenomenal" lol. I still have few projects for LJH on my PWL though, so better luck on the next one I hope (not anytime soon though xD).
Unfortunately it doesn't look like this one will work for me, I wanted to like it really bad for Shin Min Ah's sake and I loved the writer's previous drama but I don't think I can go on so I'll stop here. It seems Signal will be the only drama for Lee Je Hoon that I managed to watch till the end, I just can't match with this actor (pls note that this is strictly "my opinion" you have yours so don't kill me xD)
This is Jun Ho's 2nd drama, he continues to show me that he really belongs to this industry. I still can't believe he's an idol. His role in both dramas are completely different and the way he portrayed both of them is entirely different, I rarely see that even with good senior actors. He's definitely the character that intrigues my interest the most in this drama.
It has been such a LONG time since I’ve enjoyed a movie this much not just in the K industry but in the movie industry in general. North and South collaboration is delightfully approached in a fun way rather than dramatic. North Korean accent never sounded so sexy until Hyun Bin spoke it. Kudos to HY for mastering the accent I always have great respect for actors who can master an accent, which doesn’t belong to them, it is really commendable.
Although there were so many things exaggerated and over dramatized, some things I find unbelievable especially the court dialogues which the kids were saying (how can high school kids be so much detailed and well-aware off each and every character who plays part in the court as if they really were judge, attorneys and prosecutors?). Anyhow I still think this is a good drama and a drama that I would personally love to devote to those who think ending your life is the best answer to your problems. I loved the final message, it was filled with hope and positivity.
I like the drama, but something is off... I think the cast have no chemistry with each other. I also long for "family feels" in this drama. I can't seem to feel it's a family drama because everyone is acting distant especially the grandparents it's kind of different than what I'm used to see in family dramas. There are hardly any scenes between the grandkids and grandparents and no scene whatsoever between Moon Jeong Ae and any of the grandkids.
I sometimes wonder if I watched the same drama as everyone else. Am I the only one sitting here like what a grand…
At this point I really don't care what you think of this drama, my question for you was clear cut. I'm asking you "why" do you think acting was as low as 6 but you go again and explain "why" you feel this drama is overrated and doesn't deserve this love. I get your reasons I've read them and I honestly said you provided good points to justify your overall rating (even if I don't agree with it). I had my issues with the drama as well it wasn't all love and "breath taking" as you are trying to imply without me saying anything but that's not the point here. You see no matter how much you love or how much you hate the drama, it won't change how "I" feel about it so I'm not feeling salty nor bitter I appreciate opposing views and I love writing critique papers on case studies at school maybe that is why I couldn't slide away your "6" score for acting without providing justifiable reason. You CAN NOT just go ahead and assume that people love GY for his looks not his acting skills, I'm one of his fans who loved him for his talent and I've been his fans for over a decade now. I don't have to go watch all of his dramas I've already seen everything he had offered when they came out the first time before MDL existed. All of his dramas are rom-com (which isn't really my favorite genres) unlike his movies. What you are saying here is more of a character dissatisfaction rather than and an acting analysis. Female is copy paste (that's the character you're talking about here it has nothing to do with KGE's evaluation as an actress), GY has limited range of and little variation if you watch his other rom-com (again you are talking about the characters not analyzing his acting skills I'd like to see you try and say he has limited range in his movies as well since all of them had completely different characters). LDW has always been a good actor since he came out back in the beginning of 2000, that's my opinion of him so he didn't "surprise" me here but he gained more respect from me as an actor for being able to shine under GY's shadow. Frankly what I got from your answer is more on a character assessment rather than acting assessment. You liked LDW here because you liked his character he had more layers and more impact as Grim Reaper than Kim Shin. I mean everyone loved him the most because his character gave more depth to the story when it didn't have depth.
Bottom line, whatever you opinion may be on the actors it's yours I just wanted to stress on the fact that you didn't provide "justification" as to why actor (except for LDW) are as terrible as "way lower than 6". Because that's VERY low in my book and quite unfair to the effort spent from the actors, so if you are going to label them even lower than 6 it would nice if you at least give them the credits of giving good reasons for such a terrible score. It is judgement after all, so it should be backed with solid reasons. All I saw is character dissatisfaction and show dissatisfaction. "I think though what a lot of people consider good acting and what I do is very different. I mean my favorite actor is Han Suk Kyu. I can't stand Lee Jong Suk" that's again your opinion only. Not all people like actors for "their looks" as you are implying here, you can't just assume that I love GY for his looks, I have my reasons to love him as an actor. I'm not a fan of Lee Jong Suk but I LOVE Han Suk Kyu, but I'm not going to belittle those who love LJS and just go ahead an assume they are "dazzled by his looks" rather than his acting. It's not nice, your choice of actors may feel great to you but you shouldn't think it's superior to others. Each person is entitled to what is "good" acting in their opinion. Alas, I can see my points will not be clear to you, as yours are not convincing me that they are good opposing views because they lack the critical eye, but again I liked reading your criticism on the show nonetheless. Whether you like it or not Goblin offered what the majority of people wanted to watch, not just internationally speaking but also locally (Korean people are VERY picky). The writer is smart and always knows what the public wants, whether we argue on the quality it doesn't change the fact that EVERY drama for her is a hit,,, this is smart in my book. Popularity doesn't reflect quality it just reflects "love" maybe this will be the answer to your wondering mind. People love it and when you love something your feelings get the better judge of you. Period.
Last point, no rom-com ever "deep" or "different" when it comes to the romance line. Either you accept that and watch them or just don't watch them no matter how popular they get because aside from all the other elements they will just be another rom-com. I rest my case now.
I sometimes wonder if I watched the same drama as everyone else. Am I the only one sitting here like what a grand…
Can I ask why would you rate acting category 6 in your review? I get that this drama is a 6.5 to you (although you skim watched it). But why is the acting 6? I don't understand why people take out their frustration/dislike of a drama on the actors. Isn't acting for judging acting only? Was the performance given by Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun and Lee Dong Wook is as bad as 6?! Wow that makes them terrible actors then... and makes me question your judgement. I respect differences in opinions and I like reading opposing reviews that's why I read yours too but I dislike "blind hating". Although you gave good reasons as to why you think this drama is nothing more than a 6.5 but you gave no justification as to why acting is 6. "GY is like Brad Pitt and LDW is Matthew McConaughey" This isn't a constructive criticism as to WHY you think they are terrible actors... but you've skimmed watch through the drama how could you possibly provide constructive criticism regarding their performance :)
It would be really nice if Lee Ha Na would stop talking as if she's whispering...
When you put it in that way, yes it makes sense actually. But it still bothers me because it lacks the sincere feeling and tension especially in desperate situations.
For those who are questioning Go Ah Ra's acting skills, I think you might be mistaking your dislike for the character that it's a lack on the actor's part. Go Ah Ra is a good actress watch her in her previous dramas Who Are You, Reply 1994 and You Are All Surrounded she's talented. I understand that people have different opinions and I respect that but I saw many negative comments about her acting which made me wonder if she's being judged for the character. Well, to each its own but for those who commented on her looks I say grow up and learn how to judge actors by their skills not their looks.
Why is Lee Kyu Han in this drama?! I was really surprised, he is much better and has long history of acting (playing…
I have seen 4 dramas for Yeon Woo Jin he's relatively new compared to Lee Kyu Han and it hasn't been long since he started being the 1st lead in a drama. I understand that it's his choice to be in the drama but still it's a pity that he's just a supporting character in drama where most of the cast are newbies. Thank you for replying though it's good to know that there are people here who know and appreciate Lee Kyu Han.
Why is Lee Kyu Han in this drama?! I was really surprised, he is much better and has long history of acting (playing 2nd lead and sometimes 1st lead). It's a pity that someone as talented as him plays a supporting character for a drama with bunch of newbies as main leads!! such a waste for his talent.
It's been almost a year since I finished this drama and yet, reading your review, I just felt I was re-watching…
"You reminded me of all the feels R88 gave me" Thank you, I'm happy to know that I have at least captured the feels which this drama gives because it's so precious <3
Thank you so much for the recommendation, I had no idea about this show! I definitely need this :D
Thank you for the link ❤
I love this show so much, exactly for all the reasons you pointed out. I love your review, your words are what…
Thank you for always being supportive my dear Betty <3
"your words are what I want to read about this show" This makes me really happy, the fact that pouring out all my emotions and thoughts and working hard to express them means something to a fan of the show.
Your taste in dramas is always classic <3
I'm really happy to see LYA again ♥
